@slippy1968 i don't think either nation wants you then. The best thing about the irish rugby team is standing together as irish men whatever religion or political belief and being proud of being from our great island. it's funny that you're listening to the clancy brothers and tommy makem - the biggest rebel musicians we've ever produced. bitter fool.
You obviously don't know much about the clancy brothers or the issues re. our national anthem in Irish Rugby. We have, and always will, have our own nation so we don't want them/you. Long live Ulster.
I also have more educational attainments than you could read in one day so no bitter fool I can assure you ( if your opinion mattered)
@slippy1968 as a massive supporter of the Clancy brothers and Tommy Makem and a Irish nationalist.I have to say that your comments are rediculous all three clancy brothers were in the IRA!and Tommy Makem was of extreme republican view too.We all saw Irishmen from all religons standing together in Croke Park singing both of the rugby anthems against England.Give up your stoneage view and move with the times the troubles are behind us!!!!!!!!!
Wrong I'm afraid. Tom and Paddy claimed to have been in the IRA; Liam never was. Tommy Makem was an expatriate Irish man who could afford, from a distance, to indulge his romanticised view of republicanism.
@1analogue i'm sorry but your arguments are rediculous still!!!!! please get your facts right and Tommy Makem never passed up a chance to promote his views!!!and i noticed you never commented on my second piont on my last post because you know i'm right and things have changed.!!!!!!!!!!
@ADoyle131 I wasn't making arguments, but statements which are true about the 'republicanism' of the brothers and Tommy Makem. I support what happened in Croke Park. I think you should try reading what I actually said rather than commenting on what you think I said.
@ADoyle131 Yer right about moving with the times, my grandmother was in her mothers womb when the bailiffs burnt the thatch. grandfather on the other side had to bolt rather quick. all lobbed into greatest country in the world and eventuall produced my line. Though we havnt forgotten our heritage, ( have absolutley wonderful wakes in our family ) the brothers and makem played in my city (ballaarat) in 1966 . I am a cathoilic and a freemason, with friends of all persuasions. move on
I hear Liam... but who else? Paddy. I think Tom Clancy too. But is the 4th Bobby?? I don't think it's Tommy Makem - I'd be able to pick his voice out for sure.
Thanks for the song!! It's one of my favorites. :)
@ADoyle131 Liam never fought in the IRA. He was much younger than Paddy and Tom.

@metallifreak77,
It's almost the National Anthem in Scotland. Roy Williamson of The Corries wrote it and you should be able to find a recording of them singing it.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The studio engineer on this recording was the famous Dubliner, Patio O' Furniture...

If yer so proud of yer ulster scots heritage why do you sing god save the queen? you wouldnt expect a scots man to sing it never mind an irish man.

Geez, and I have that CD? Been a looong time since I listened, I'm afraid. :(
I enjoy Robbie O'Connell but I think he's better as a solo artist. He gets drowned out with the Clancys.

Ughh...the O'connell era group. Please remove Mr. Makem's name.

This is from the CD "Older But No Wiser" which includes Liam, Bobby, Paddy and Robbie O'Connell. It was their last studio recording (1995 I believe).
