  • thanks so much my laptop dont look ghetto anymore with a broken key. thanks ur the help!

  • ok....again youtube fails at suggestions, next to fixing keyboards, there is "Worlds strongest man 2010" unless he is lifting a thousand keyoards, he shouldnt be on the suggestions list.>

  • Thanks for helping me out! :)

  • Big Thankx! My son's cap lock came off and we've been trying for months to put it on - you gave me the knowledge because the white piece came off inside the key - I didn't know to take it off and put it back on first until I watched how you did it! Awesome! Saved us an unneeded trip to a repair shop with out VERY limited income right now.

  • my.space.bar.came.off.and.i.cant.seem.to.get,it.back.on

  • sorry but isnt clear to me at all

  • My J key has just come off and the lever things are inside the key and I can't put it back on... how do I???

  • @MeLoNhEadSeb Hey, no sweat. Looking at the scissor mechanism, find the end of it that looks like it snaps onto the keycap. Take the tip of a knife and slip it between the scissor mech and the keycap until it pops free. Then, proceed to replace it on the keyboard.

  • @powerbrixx Thanks so much!

  • Thanks for this. I popped out out one of my keys to see what kind of mechanism it uses compared to a desktop keyboard and ummm...didn't know how to put it back on. lol

My netbook has the first mechanism you demonstrated with the two pieces of plastic.

  • Fixed! You rock!

  • It's hard t actually find this vide withut a key...

  • i love you!!!

  • @zSiLeNTKiLAz Yay! Glad we were able to help. :o)

  • Thanks man. :) Helped a lot.

  • Great tutorial. I managed to pop up a keycap that was not working on my dell latitude 630, cleaned the thing, and put it back following your video, I did use a flat watch screwdriver to help me. Wish you have a better light and resolution in the video - in fact dell should pay you the video quality expenses for posting a great tutorial. Thanks!

  • Cheers man, worked perfectly on my Acer 3820tg!

  • i got my key to go back in but its not all the way down and itss tougher to oush? what did i do wrong

  • do you have to remove the keypad to fix? also can you buy individual keys?? thanks and awesome vid:)

  • I did everything that you said any my keys wont stay on. After I hit them about 3 times the pop back up and I have to do it all over again. STUPID DOG STEPPED ON MY KEYBOARD. it wasnt on the floor i just have a big dog the jumps on tables

  • @18carNASCAR If you look closely, I'm sure there is something that is broken on the scissor mechanism, or maybe one of the metal tabs on the backing of the keyboard got bent. Might have to pull out your magnifying glass!

  • @powerbrixx Thanks for the quick response, and yes they are broken. Where could I buy a new scissor mechanism

  • @18carNASCAR OMG my dog did the same thing and i have the same problem!

  • thanks!! my m key is "good as new"!!

  • Awesome. Thanks for the tip!

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.....so much. My key has been off for about 6 months now and the only way of getting it place back on with HP was to mail my entire laptop to the company, due to not having a local place to go in for repairs...so all in all it took me about 20 minutes to get my key back on and it would have taken over two weeks with HP to have it mailed and then shipped back to me. Your tutorial was very helpful and easy to follow.

  • I want to change the crappy keys, or keyboard on my HP G72, does anybody know were i can find keys or custom keyboards?

  • Thank you soooo much. A huge help. My 2 year old took off two keys on my brand new laptop and I couldn't figure it out. many thanks :))

  • @mirandyzorn20 2-year olds are great for customizing your stuff. Glad you figured out how to fix it.

  • Thank You It was help me for replacing key.

  • THANK YOU! the key simply wasnt responding, but this video helped me.

  • Jeeeeeez! finally took me like 2hours to get one freaking key in -_- and your video actually helped me do it! Thankyou!

  • My son just put his laptop on top of mine and ripped out the F2 key. This video saved me. Thanks !!!

  • lol i was just messing with the key during the intro of the video and fixed it... But nice video!

  • Thank you so much :D you are a life saver :)

  • Thanks!!!!

    Ur AWESOME!

  • that thing under the small rubber cap is causing my s key to not work, i had to copy and paste them into thi comment -_-

  • Does anybody have any idea why my laptop track-pad randomly disconnects/stops working sometimes?

  • @DidTheGameStart My best guess is that it is some conflict with a driver. You might try it in Safe Mode with Networking, which will at least let you get some stuff done while you're using it but disable most of the drivers. If the problem continues, it may well be a hardware issue. The palmrest assy, which includes the touchpad, usually isn't too expensive on eBay.

  • @powerbrixx There was water on my laptop keyboard, and now, there is no button the works, pls help me.

  • awesome, i got a few of my keys on - thx 4 the vid - and yes, i hear pigeons in the video :o it's a miracle!

  • @theeomix Groovy! Glad you got it fixed. I'll go shoot the pigeon now. How dare it get into my video!

  • For the metal on the laptop where the smaller piece goes, is it supposed to be straight up cause both sides of mine are bent a little.

  • I was afraid to remove my keyboard key..I thought I might beak it..

And it sounds like you guys have a Dove in there

  • Thank you for this video my zzzzzzzzz is back in action....even though it is one of the least used ones.

  • You Just Saved My Life

Note To Self Dont Pull Off Keyboard Keys

    -____-

  • @JustAnotherHieiLover i actidently pulled off my shift key and this is a huge help XD

  • My laptop's RIGHT CLICK wont work, I click it but nothing happens.

    My pc is Wondows 7

Is there any button combanation that I can press to right click?

PLEASE HELP! Thank you so much!

  • @ChrisIRL7 Ah, geez, you like challenging me, don't y ou? Click and hold on the button or whatever you want to have the focus, then drag off of it and release. Then, look for the funny looking key on your keyboard to the right of the spacebar that looks like a dropdown menu. Press that and voila, you should have the results of the right-click. If you don't have that, then you might want to invest in a USB mouse.

  • My computer is about to take a flying leap out the nearest window. My L, N, and H key stick, and the H key has actually fallen completely off. I can't afford a new keyboard, and I don't have a USB one. I'm going to scream. The H won't go back on, no matter what I try.

  • Is there any way to fix a key that doesn't work even when I take the keycap off, and press the black rubber thingie, the key still doesn't work? I'm talking about the "down", "right" and "left" keys. The "up" key works.

  • @op684 Sorry, but no. Time to replace the keyboard. Google "powerbrixx" and contact those folks about a replacement. They are actually pretty affordable and not too hard to replace (generally, not a hard and fast rule, though).

  • Hey there,

I used this vid to fix my keyboard. Just wanted to say thanks heaps!

    Mike

  • i have an acer aspire and the 5 key the spacebar and the back space fell off and they wont click back in

  • my key doesnt pop back up...it just stays down

  • @12345tatis You may be either missing the rubber cushion that should be in the center; it provides the spring that pushes the keycap back up. Or, you may find that you have bent metal tabs sticking up from the keyboard that the scissor mechanism snaps into or slides under. If those are not just right, the mechanism can bind and jam.

  • @powerbrixx

My stupid cat ripped one of my keys off on my laptops keyboard and it's been driving me crazy. I just don't know what to do. I've tired all of these tutorials and did everything I could but nothing works, it never sticks in place. I think the problem is one of those metal tabs you were talking about broke completely off. It was bent and I was trying to fix it with some tweezers but it just broke off. I really don't know what to do, I'm almost in tears. Is it hopeless?

  • @Sunderland4745 I think you should threaten to break something off of the cat with the tweezers! Don't know if you've checked out pricing on the keyboard but it might be pretty reasonable. Google us - PowerBrixx is the company name - and contact us directly if you want to determine if we have the keyboard. Remember that you can use a USB keyboard in the meanwhile.

  • Thanks so much. You saved my daughter from an embarrasing trip to schools IT department.

  • i clipped my key back into place but now it is moving strangely, the only way i can describe it is like a see-saw. ???

  • @underpantswedgy Kinda hard to give you any suggestions. If your keycap looked like one of the ones we show in the video, then you may just need to pull it back off and start over. Or consider the see-saw action a unique feature.

  • thank you u helped me fix my computer

  • Thanks so much this is very helpful.

  • thank you so much. i didnt have a clue how to get the key back on until i found this video.its so heart warming that people share their knowledge

  • @capevelvet Glad to help. Lord knows, we sure hit the Internet often looking for shared knowledge. The Internet has made such a difference because we're no longer alone in having to figure this stuff out.

  • Thanks a lot. It have placed my D bacck to the keyboard.

  • Thank-You I have my shift key back! I have an HP, different looking parts same basic components... I took the metal U off the back of the key (it didn't pop off when the accident happened) & put it on the laptop first, then clipped in the scissor mechanism on the key, then it just snapped into place. I've tried to get a key back on a keyboard before and never had it work perfectly!

    Thanks so Much!!!

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!!!

  • @ powerbrixx wow thank you i could find any info anywhere showing exactly whats in this vid. thank you. im going to be referring to this vid alot in the future.

  • @violenceinc Thanks for the kudos. Glad we were able to help. :o)

  • i have a dell vostro 1520 and my a key poped off when it did the white "spring" type things under it came off with the key. Can you help??

  • @peacebab Look at the underside of the keycap. You'll notice that one side of the mechanism is snapped on to two sets of clips, while thee other side of it is slid into two slots. Use a sharp pointed knife or razor blade to slip up between the white mechanism and keycap on the side with the two clips and pop the mechanism off. Proceed as I direct in the video from that point. :o)

  • OMG... thank you soooo much... i thought i broke my gf's computer!

  • thank you! you saved my day!

  • What do you do if you snap a key off and you damage the scissor mechanism? I did that and i dont know what to do. Please help me!

  • @abby75077 Your best bet is to find another key that is the same size and orientation but that you never use or at least very infrequently use and pop that key off to borrow the scissor mechanism.

  • @powerbrixx Thank you <3

  • what happens if that back thing thats surrounded by the white thing, comes off? mine did . I tried ceaning my keyboard and my key next to the k key, on the right wont work anymore. I tried ooking under the keycap and that back thing came out. How do i make my key work!

  • @mrstrongforce I'd have to understand better what "back thing" means. If you mean the rubber cone that sits in the middle that gets compressed when you depress the key, then you can glue that back in place somehow. If its lost and gone completely, then steal one from a more useless key like the "tilde" key (~) that you won't regularly need.

  • Thanks

  • I popped a couple of keys on my Dell "Studio" laptop and there's all kind of dirt under them...including little tiny hairs, probably from our kitties. I've been using q-tips and rubbing alcohol to swab under where the key caps snap on. Is this okay or can you suggest something better. I thank you in advance for your help.

  • @AZLBRAX - I might suggest a straight razor for shaving the kitties. Outside of this, and maybe vacuuming your keyboard fairly regularly, there ain't much hope for getting those hairs out. They like to get caught up under edges and in joints and just don't like to come out. Compressed air could help too.

  • @powerbrixx: Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, we run a cat-rescue mission and with central air, cat detritus ends up everywhere...even in the "cat-free zones". (That's working well!) I don't know about shaving the kitties but I've been thinking about investing in a large vat of 'Nair' hair-remover and dipping each kitty into it. Did I mention that I HATE kitties???

  • Does taking the keys off the keyboard damage the keyboard or keys at all?

  • @TheLperson100 - It is certainly possible to break the scissor mechanisms when doing this. I hold my breath every time I snap one off!

  • thanks sooo much made it a lot easier watching that!!!!!1

  • THANKS :D

  • if yu push the key and the number/letter is not showing up on the screen. what is most likely the problem.????

  • @Actress21636 If you push the key and nothing is happening, you can try removing the keycap to see what would happen if you press within the center directly using your fingernail. If still nothing happens, you probably have a defective keyboard that needs to be replaced. Google PowerBrixx and see if they have it in stock. :o)

  • thanks for that my dog decided he wanted to play with my laptop i didnt realise they click bk on you saved me a lot of hassel

  • @kellyhp LOL - yep, pets and laptops sometimes not best combination! We had a repair come in today where a cat's choice napping location was on top of a laptop's keyboard. About three keys were permanently stuck and there was nothing to do but replace the whole keyboard. Needless to say, the kitty will have to find a new napping spot!

  • @kellyhp SME happend to me lol

  • I attempted to repair the "m" key on a Dell Inspiron 1525, but in the process the rubber contact component became disconnected. Do you know if a particular type of adhesive is needed to reconnect such a part? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • @Thedoctor19000 We've tried gel sticks. If you can get the rubber part to stick back on just a bit around the edges, it is not likely to go anywhere. It is held rather captive there under the keycap.

  • i have a apple mac book and i got 8 keys that dont work when i hit them like they dont show the letter on it how do i fix that

  • @pokemon7076 Most likely, you have the bad news that its time for a new keyboard. You can check out wwwdotpowerbrixxdotcom to see if they have anything available, otherwise maybe eBay? We know how to install it if you want us to source it and repair it.

  • @pokemon7076 Unfortunately, you're probably looking at a keyboard replacement. Sometimes, a diagonal row or two of keys stops working and we haven't found a good way to get them going again. Something breaks down in the circuitry printed on the plastics under the keys and there's no repairing it.

  • Thank you, Darren! Your video instructions were extremely helpful. I'm sure I would never have been able to figure it out on my own.

  • This is a nice video, but how do we actually FIX the key that is not working?? I can remove and replace the keys and their hinge pins mechanisms all day, but isn't there something else we need to do to get the key to work again? I habe several keys on my Acer TravelMate C300 that work just like the 1st example you show here, the key feels like it is working, it goes up and down smoothly, but it does not produce a text character in any form of software. Isn't there something to do with the cup?

  • @The1966man If the key is not working at all, even when the keycap is removed and you are definitely able to firmly press down the plunger thingy, then you're at the point where you need to find a new keyboard. Acer quit selling the C300 keyboard; used to be one of my best selling products. :o( Might have to find a used one on eBay.

  • i have an acer touchscreen desktop computer with a wireless keyboard. unfortunately i accedentley knocked a cup of water over the keyboard and i opened up the keyboard and dried it but now am getting alot of characters on the keyboard not responding properly for example when i press "m" it comes as a "hm" instade

is there any thing i can do or should i give up i will be soooo thankfull if u help :D

  • @RussianHitMan100 Most likely, you will need to replace the wireless keyboard. If the computer types properly using an external USB keyboard, then you most likely just need to replace the keyboard. Sorry its not better news than that!

  • Wuju!!! My keyboard have an A ... again!!! :) Thanks!

  • Thank you so much for this video. Helped me fix my Right AlT key on my laptop

  • I checked your other videos, nothing about the space key :(

  • @robertfox05 Yeah, space bars are fun. You usually have 3 of the scissor mechanisms that need to be pried off the back of the spacebar and properly located, and also a wide U-shaped clip that needs to sit around the scissor mechanisms, usually the long edge toward the bottom, the hooks latched into the tabs with holes that are sticking out of the keyboard surface. You position the spacebar itself similarly to the video, but you have to press down all along the lower edge to snap in securely.

  • @justinager - I ALWAYS pry the white thing off of the keycap and then reassemble it as necessary to get it put back together right so I can follow the instructions in the video. Just use the tip of a sharp knife and slide it up under the scissor mechanism at the point that it clips onto the keycap and pop it off. Avoid the end with the slots, be sure to pop it off where the clips are instead.

  • @powerbrixx any tips on getting the retainer (white part) back on?

  • Thanks. From what the Dell service manual showed, I thought I broke it.

  • YEY thank you

  • Thanks you very much!!!

  • Thanks a lot. I have a Dell Latitude. Its screen has developed lots of lines and half of the screen is hidden behind those lines. That part of the screen is not visible just the lines. The computer works fine. Its older than 5 years. It had gone a bit slow, but it started developing very fine lines on the screen. After sometime they increased in number. Then they became broader. Now half of the screen is hidden behind them. Please help.

  • @drottningster You might want to give us a call. Google PowerBrixx and get our repair number. Sounds like your LCD circuit board is starting to go bad. Not too bad of a repair. Do plug the computer into an external monitor, though, to ensure you have a clean display there. You may have to push "Fn+F7" (maybe F5 or F6 too, depends on the computer) to get the output to go to the external, or just power down, plug it into the external, and boot up. If external is clean, then LCD is bad.

  • @powerbrixx : Thankyou very much for your reply. When I plug it to an external monitor, I get fine display. So what is the repair man's number. I am in Sweden.

  • @drottningster That pretty much narrows it down to the LCD screen having gone bad. I doubt you're going to want to ship that to Durham, NC, USA. Just find you a local repair shop there in Sweden that will swap out the screen for you.

  • @powerbrixx : How much its going to cost? Just a rough idea.

  • wat if the white thing stucked on the key? how would u put it back?

  • Thank You So Much

  • you are the most depressing man i have ever seen, you need to get laid my friend.

  • PROTIP: if you don't use the key that looks like a page with an arrow (right click), you can use it to replace a broken key (i needed to use it on my down arrow after it snapped.) it looks awkward, but it works!

  • @MegamanForWii Good idea. Something we suggest sometimes also, especially if you've been duped into buying one of those house branded laptops and the keyboard simply can't be found at a reasonable price. One good reason to stick with major brands that are typically sold in the country in which you live!

  • wooohooo SSSSSS :) there were loads of fucking hairs inside my keyboard :S should probably extend my wanking range

  • @redbull2501 lolol

  • 9 minute? really? ahhh the key i cannot get to work - in bewteen A & D :(

  • @redbull2501 you mean...SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS hahahaha

  • @A7XSLIPKNOT100 I decided to take them all off and clean them all but lost some of the little clips! :( now I can't put the space bar back on or Prt Sc... now I know why the space bar is so big and not just an annoying tiny circle!

  • Thanks a lot......u saved my life.....i was able to replace my 'p' key from this video......thanks....

  • My brother fell on my computer almost broke the screen and the spacebar broke a d now its rlly hard to type >:[

  • My friend just broke the v key on the dell keyboard. How do I fix it?

  • im tryin to see maybe just maybe i can replace the part of my keyboard with the luxeed light up keyboard for my laptop

  • It will be better if you zoom and make it really slow the part where you put the scissors mecanism together.

    Thank you so much !!!

  • sigh...wot a relief.thanks mate l jus managed to fix mine easily

  • Thanks A Lot!!!

  • Thanks dude

Just fixed my new Vaio which i managed to fuck up after just one week :)

  • Thank you your my life saver I fixed thanks. If my mom notices this mom will ground me

  • dude thanks my a key wasnt on the keyboard now i can lmao again yay thanks!!!

  • thank you my friend ,i just need to find the key now lol ,bloody cat!!!!

  • GREAT PRESENTATION! Wow, this is the 1st tutorial I've found completely understandable---& now I'm feeling hopeful @ repairing several troubled keys (this Dell XPS M1530 looks like your 1st example). Before viewing your video, I'd done what you suggested: removed another key/keycap to use as a guide. But then I had Yet Another key to repair, haha! Yea, I can laugh NOW but not yesterday when I tried that. So thanks lots. It's very clear what I was doing wrong. Tomorrow I go at it again.

  • Obeying Holy law, personal relation ship with God, growing spiritually, is the ONLY way to escape JUDGEMENTY DAY. If u dont have any of this you going to HELL.

  • Thank you very much.

  • Do you think that you could help me? I have re put together the hinge, but then when I try to simply click it back into place to put the key back on it, it wont connect to my keyboard.

  • god bless... it was pretty useful... i saved lot of money... i was told by dell to replace the keyboard ... but you saved it! i replaced it by myself....

  • I managed to put my full stop back, but it's still how it was before I messed with it. I have to press much harder on it than other keys, so I decided to investigate, pulling out the key--- bad mistake.

  • when mine came off the white piece at 3:30 came off with the key can this be fixed or replaced

  • heres my tut: 1. take key out, 2. line up black plunger with the center part of key and push down, done

  • thanks for help... that was real challenge
