When I did Chung Moo Quan it was $60 bucks a month for 3 days a week classes and there was no belt fees. In fact you didn't have to buy a new belt because you took the same belt and dyed part of it black to show your ranking. When I became an instructor (no extra charge) I stopped paying dues all together. Now I'm not speaking for the other schools and I am only speaking from my personal experience. Also, it is obvious that these news reports are completely biased and blown out of proportion.

I took regular lessons then private lessons then special private lessons then declined to take black belt lessons at $250 a month. This school is run with the intention to make money first and foremost. The physical conditioning is excellent and there is a lot to be gained in that respect. What this school lacked was the means to advance without deep pockets or practical lessons how to fight. The school became more business &cult like over time under the guise of being true martial arts.

i can see why people cant get over them selves because of the pain they miss and the fact that was the only time they had a life. and its a shame good men get blamed who where in charge when it was morons who where runing around making trouble should every one blame the owners of stores or other bussiness for their employes mistakes thats why its sad to see this kind of thing because Chung su nim was a good man and was to kind to a bunch of flunkies who couldnt make it as any thing.
i trained in the 80 in the Chi town area and it is shame to me the schools was the best thing i ever found in my life and growing up in Humboldt park their is a lot of bad things a kid can run into school was a way for me to make something of my self and its messed up that a few bad people ruined such a good thing and glad to have experinced schools if there where schools still here in chicago i would not hesitate to sign up CSN gave me a chance at life i will alwasy be thank ful
I haven't practiced for over 10years, and left because there was many, many stupid and shady things going on there. There was also a bunch of really, really stupid 'higher' belts like Santi Furio. That fat ass piece of shit probably was someones bitch in the big house.
Anyway, I do have to say in all honesty, my time there has taught me a lot and I don't regret it. If I didn't practice when I did, I would probably be dead or working at McDonald's for life.
The police at one point of the questioning actually discussed if they should detain me longer since Pam Zeckman was stuck in traffic.
They just wanted to get some good footage of me in my uniform in handcuffs at the station. They finally let me go, I had to walk back to the school in my uniform. This whole this was a setup between the police and Channel 2.
Is there anything uglier than Pam Zeckman? What a useless whichhunt she put together. Destroyed the tremendous value of CMD training for many people. Shame so many are weak today since they stopped training.
@BlessingAll When I started Chung moo in the early 80's it was $35 a month to start and by the end of the first month I was paying $70 a month. By the 3rd month "special private" at $250 a month. My instructor told me that under the original terms @ $35 I would never make black belt. Face it, It's a cult and a rip off. The best one we were told is that John C. Kim could a) Knock you down with his mind b.) run a distance of 300 miles in 45 minutes. I left as an asst. instructor never looked back.
I reached black belt with my twin bro in chung moo quan just after high school. The training if nothing else, taught me how to fall and roll. Mental and physical training re-learn the mind of its limiting and unlimlted power. I have fallen off roofs, taken terrible hits and landings, my brother off a bike going into traffic and we have actually rolled to safety. I don't train anymore, though 15 years later retain immense skill gained. Only those who trained themselves in CMQ understand any of it
Don't know about you, but I found the training to be excellent. I have probably trained with some who share their negative experiences with the training. In my opinion, many of them are 2 faced. They say they love the training. It is the best thing in the world... then BOOM, the training is the worst. Look in the mirror. The training is not the problem.
Posting the same thing on all the OYD videos hmm? You're either an OYD instructor who was told to write this or a very ignorant student. You'll see the nature of this school sooner or later. Everyone does.
I agree with the training being the best. I had entered the school after a sparring match with instructor Dan. I lost handily but proceeded to gain his respect after my talent was developed. I did not like many things within, but there was no better way to prepare your body & mind if given the time. No other school compared. No instruction came even remotely close. I never found a dojo I wanted to stay in after CMQ. It is a shame it turned so bad.
Holy Crap! I took lessons from a school in Maplewood,MN in the late 80s. I remember all my friends and I were sold on "8 different martial arts taught as one" theory. My parents paid 35 dollars a month. Best thing I learned was to walk away from a fight unless attacked.
is this in the northwest?? cause im looking into learning martial arts but i dont want to pay that much or be brain washed. can you help me out here??

I was the instructor at the Schaumburg school the day the story broke.
I will never forget it, about 5 police cars pulled up and made me shut down the school, they cuffed me and took me to the schaumburg police station.
The took me into an interview room and started questioning me about the dead guy as if I did it. I was 10years old when that guy was an instructor.

how do you know they are weak from stopping training? Maybe they found a more intense training program.
in that case, it would be a shame that CMD trainers keep training CMD and don't go find something better.
look at both sides

The convict Kim gambled it all away!
I remember how we had to refer to 100 dollars as one dollar!

Go spar with an amateur boxer, roll with a BJJer, or kick-box with a Muay Thai fighter. I'll bet it will be a humbling experience.

this really should not be named "oom yung doe", some people won't notice that it's about a different art and organization.
