funded by the state. Now that we are in an economic crisis, as well as a state budget crisis, funding to public education is being cut. Community colleges used to be free. Now that funding is cut, the students pick up more of the tab. Though the tuition in community college is very cheap compared to that of 4 year schools, it was set up to be affordable. Unfortunately, if you are a college student working a minimum wage job part time to pay for this, a fee increase means you need to drop out.
this seemed ok till that last sign, community college use to be free..everyone wants hand outs these days... its sad that people actually think they are entitled to something...
If we are paying taxes, we definitely are entitled to something. If california can't control its budget, it needs to keep taxpayer dollars in the place that will help it create jobs and train unemployed workers- its universities, the community colleges that feed into universities, and its public k-12 system. Is it sad that people think they need libraries, schools, police, firefighters, medicare, fafsa, the GI bill, in return for taxes? Please think before you say something like that.
@rannix18 you definitely have a point there. California community college is the cheapest. Thats why people depend on it. And that why there is an outcry when the tuition increases. The logic is that, if it was cheap before, when it was well funded, then it should continue to be well funded. A loss of funding is what these students are protesting.
