  • How do you just improvise? :D its soo cool! like i can play piano, and struggling with 2 hands but im getting there! but how do you improvise? if i did that, id make some mess of a tune! :P

  • I generally train each hand separately until i can play each part decently, and then sync them by looking for the orientation points where both hands hit together or one after another and focusing on a single combined rhythm rather then two separate ones (Your brain does this automatically). As you progress, your muscle memory will already know most patterns and you won't have to train the hands separately so much to the point where a very experienced player doesn't have to at all.

  • i can play good with one hand at a time but when i try to use two hands i consetrate on one hand and the othere does what ever of just stops lol

  • Freight Train Blues o:

In my school we play 'The Freight Train Blues' and the left hand is the same!

    I can play this *_* :'D Now I'm happy. :D

  • i found "heart and soul" to be a very good song to train with 2 hands diferent tempo:)

  • Its a matter of practice, rythem and good technique with your hands. Usually people at first when they start playing piano or keyboard they start with one hand and finger which is the index finger until they get use to playing with both hands and all fingers. It takes practice and it just comes to you little by little if you practice more.

  • 15 minutes a day for 3 days is better than one hour ever four days. Bit by bit is the way to do it, you're absolutely right. Eventually the brain learns to control the hands and fingers separately, as the player you just have to have the internal motivation to push through initial failure and trust that it will come.

  • Thanx alot !!! :D

  • Thanx !!! :D

  • this type of genre you're playing... what is it called? I know its blues, but blues is such a broad term. There are a lot of types of blues. But this one is the one i really like. Its got a groove and a sadness to it, which appeals to me ^^

  • sounds good.

  • helped alot i luvs u

  • Good lesson =)!

Does any expert (or semi-expert) know if this digital piano is good? Thanks!

  • @metasjodiendo Far as I research hell yes! This was my 2nd choice, but had to buy another because I wanted it 2nd hand but it was already gone:-/

It's always an opinion though. You realy have to try any piano before you buy one. Try differnent ones, be sure to take your time. But overall this is a very good digital.

  • @metasjodiendo I have one, I have had it for about 4 months now and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I am a novice, but can still attest to giving the keys some pretty good hammering. the speakers have held up well, but tend to deteriorate sound quality in the keyboards top 1/4 of volume. Has midi capabilities very nice feel. The keys are rather noisy also, and some of my black keys have begun to click when pressed, after heavier use. I would recomend, but I'm sure there are better.

  • @metasjodiendo I'm no expert, but I've found that digital pianos generally are completely different to acoustic ones. They often feel a bit lighter, and you don't need to be sparing with the pedal. Then again, there are lots of horrible sounding electric pianos, you just want to get what you like. Each his own and everyone will have a preference. I quite like electric ones, but only because I regularly play one! :) x

  • @metasjodiendo yea its good....the action is same as the original grand piano....and even the quality of sound from the speakers is nice...

  • Sounds a little like happy blues.

  • im sorry bro....no beginner like me can play that tune you just played...and then use their right hand to play another ....try posting something simpler.

  • @Vortex4001 Sure they can.. it just takes time. The baseline (C, E, G, A, A#, A, G, A) can be learned at a basic level in 15-20 minutes. Repeat that over and over, until your hand is tired. Take a break and do it again. Then with the right, play a Cmaj chord (C-E-G) in between each note played by the left. Once you have that, shift it up to F, then shift it up to G. Swing it a bit, and you can play a basic 12-bar blues in C.

  • @Vortex4001

It's not for 'beginners'. This vid shows how to play basic blues - but you have to play kind of good to understand this lesson and play immediatly what he says.

great video btw! learned from it! :-)

  • @Vortex4001 then use beginner videos... this does not say anything about beginner

  • Enormous thanks to you man. I'm trying to transition from a classical backround and so have been at this boogie-woogie all bloody day now! Was just about to give up when I came across this video, so thanks for the tips, just the encouragement I needed.

  • haha brilliant conclusion (not negative sarc' i genuinely lol'd)

  • Cool, I have your piano dude! KORG RULE!!

  • I still can't play. I keep trying and trying to play with both hands but once i start playing with my right the left one messes up.Ugh i just cant get this

  • i cant use the left hand together with my right hand!!! i need help

  • Really helpful. =D

  • There is also a problem that when one of the hands changes or need to change speed I just get unsyncronized...

  • Hey what about the problem when hands are mistrained so the left hand starts occasionally running in different rhythm so it's hard to focus on synchronizing it with right hand? :D

  • i really have a hard time learning how to use piano with both hands. my left had hurts because the notes are so apart like lower D then B then Higher D.please do help us :(

  • do you go to music school? if so, i can't help you, but if you're like me, i kinda teach myself to play, then PM me and i'll will try to help you

  • @chunella10 i would love to help you by saying "do some hand stretching exercises... with ur right hand, put two fingers between any two fingers of your left hand... and keep stretching it till it hurts, and hold it there.. do that between all your fingers.

And also do full hand stretches till your pinky and thumb line up (straight angel).

Do also a finger roll, from pinky to thumb in order like a water wave.

  • Good video, but all I really took out of it was start slow and learn the bass and treble individually, which is what most people advise anyway.

I found that the rest was you demonstrating jazz improv. Nevertheless, I found some value to it.

  • omg thanx

  • thats rock around the clock

  • I playu clarinet (8th), but i'm also learning piano, i hate reading bass cleft and playing with both hands. It's hard to play two completely different things simultaneously. Clarinet is so much easier! But I'm not giving up. Playing rhythms with the left shouldn't be too hard, i'm LEFT handed. That means i can easily use both sides of my brain, but does it mean i can play simultaneously with both hands? lol

  • so its harder to use both sides of the brain if ur right handed?Because most people in the world are right handed and im right handed so i kind of take this offensive

  • think about it.....left handed people have to learn things in a right handed world plus they're naturally left handed, so of course they're gunna be able to do this a little easier than right handed people....don't get offended

  • well... actually... the hardest part, in the right hand, is RIGHThanded =D

  • I've played flute, and violin, never had a problem. When I decided to learn piano, I realized that I have a very hard time with my left hand (I'm left handed!). So I play with my right rather than my left. BUT, then again I've always had many issues with left and right, my whole family is right handed and growing up, mostly everyone in class was, so I've had to adjust. Learning how to write was a disaster my teacher gave me a lot of problems, I continued to switch hands until maybe 5th grade ...

  • what song is in 1:56 i want to now D:D:

  • It's not...any song in particular. It's just an improvisation in C.

  • @MusicGuru12 I think it's boogie rock

  • The bass (maybe the melody too?) is boogie woogie ;)

  • his left hand is a real song lol the 1 that goes woo wooo woo woo woooo lol not musch help but its a real song haha

  • The thing with me, like most people, have difficulties keeping a rhythm with the left hand and playing with the right.

Since i am a logical thinker, i just put into perspective a bit more rather than think about timing and such.

I analyze the song to see what notes are played with the left hand at the time notes on the right hand are played and practice adding one note at a time to both hands. Doing it this way and perfecting it make the song sound flawless.

  • Yurg. I cannot stand it. I have been playing for months. And I can play some really cool songs, but new songs I want to play use to different rythms with two hands. I can't do but like a really simple two handed song and it usually doesn't sound good at all. I hate it. I guess I will just have to listen to your advice.

  • It is like asking me to look left and right at the same time. There's like a wall blocking the 2 sides of my brain

  • i was trying to play this song and its pretty easy, left hand the whole song u only play C-G as quarter notes, and most of the right hand is quarter notes, but a part comes where u go C-G-D#-C-C BUT THE C-C is a tete so i play twice as fast, but when ever i go to do the tete my left hand also plays the tete instead of a quarter note, iv tried so hard but cant stop, i cant play two different rythms at the same time, do u have any advice, excersices to make it easier? thanx so much

  • The same thing happens to me when I try to sing and play guitar at the same time...I totally lose rhythm!

  • evryone could think of this, but thank you very much :- )

  • Good vid :) If you don't mind I'd like to add some advice too!

The trick is to learn HANDS SEPARATELY and SLOWLY. Keep doing that until both hands are comfortable at full speed, then put the hands together SLOWLY. One needs to be patient with this kinda thing. Often people try play it at full speed too soon and end up stuffing up and becoming frustrated.

Oh and another good trick is to play with the tune swung. It gets the timing and rhythm more consistent for some reason. :)

  • I've tried exactly that but to no avail. Been trying for years. However I can play guitar just fine. Go figure.

  • hey this really helped thanks =)

  • What songs are you playing? or are you just fooling around? because it sounds cool...do you have sheets?

  • I can't Coordinate At all. I dont know i think i have a mental block? ive been at it for months i just cant master it lol :( i cant keep a beat with my left hand and whack out a simple tune with the right without ruining the Bassline timing completly... Much like reading bass and Treble at the same time :( Ill just keep practising :)

  • I just wrote the completely SAME thing on another video.. my left hand just gets all off track when I'm practicing..My left hand hinders my piano dreams .. :(

  • How long did you sit there to try to coordinate it? I play Bach and he messes with our head...I will play the same notes maybe 100 times over and over consecutively until my brain can do them both at the same time. It isn't quick

  • i have the same problem ,, i cant play with both hands on piano ... but did you master already..?

  • dammedsalvation just keep practising it took me months before i could do it but when you can it's worth all the effort

  • hey thanks for the vid. Ive been tryin to teach myself comptine d'une autre ete by yann tiersen, only thing is ive never played piano in my life. so im finding a bit tricky to say the least gettin both hands goin, lol

  • An excellent way is to practice the left hand alone until it becomes solid second nature and then sing the right hand part until it is easy to accompany yourself singing (using the left hand only), then add the right hand. Your brain will already be mostly in the right groove.

  • Yes, this is what I have only just recently begun to recognise in myself. the right seems to follow my lefts lead and not the other way around. I wonder if that came out right... lol

    :)

  • nice point.. It almost feels like the left and right side of your brain are fighting :)

  • pretty much all i do is the walking bassline, i can do some kickass stuffin with it, but i cant do anything else!!! i'll be workin on that, thanks

  • Hey great tutorial! Thank you! :)

  • Excellent lesson thanks for that Ben.

  • i can do the 5th and 6th bassline, but i struggle to do the walking bassline, i dont really know what riffs to put with it?

  • That's pretty good, I'd say the first bassline is actually harder to keep going with the right hand going aswell than the first.

I've always used the second though, best.bassline.ever.
