  • i love ur show! ur so organized and easy directions. thank yu and the person who flims yu. plz dont ever stop this show... yu shud have ur own show on tv.

  • thank you ,

  • can you do a pecan pie..

  • No Baking necessary on this recipe? Eat it straight from the pot? And.. someone mentioned Orange juice..? I don't see that listed in the ingredients though.

  • I love the Sims music...

  • hi this is shanti hickman i really like how yu made them sweet potatoes

  • I use garnet yams

  • interesting!

  • Can we use real yam?

  • Pathetic

  • Pamela, thanks so much for your quick reply! Last question - after you put the now cut yams in the pot and all the ingredients into the mix, how much water should you add if any?

  • just got the message, I hope it's not too late. I don't add any water just the sugar and butter. With the orange juice that should be all you need. If you like more liquid, feel free to add more juice. Enjoy!

  • @PAMELAMHOLMES I didn't see you add Orange Juice, did I miss something?

  • Good!

  • Question: Do we add 1/2 cup of white sugar or brown sugar? It's not at specific about what kind?

  • You can use either but I prefer brown sugar. Enjoy.

  • I really like ur videos :)

  • Thank you very much!

  • When you first cooked the yams, did you cook with water first?

  • No. I put them in cold water.

  • THere was a list of ingredients on the web site that included more than your video shows. The two were very similar except the web page included a measure of orange juice and lemon juice. I can't recall if it was a teaspoon or more of each. I wish I'd taken a snapshot of the screen :(

    This recipe is fantastic!

  • Soul food is like jazz, improvizational :-). Both ways taste great. Try it both ways and see which one you prefer.

  • Well, everyone I perpare this for (I did use 1/2 a cup of Orange Juice and two tablespoons of lemon juice) just loves it. It's requested for all special holiday meals now. :) Thanks again!!!

  • Cool, thanks for the recipes!

  • You are welcome. Thanks for visiting!

  • you should have a show on the food network thanks a lot

  • I would love that. Hook me up!

  • Yeah, I chose the healthier option on this recipe. I was taught this recipe with two sticks of butter and a whole lot more sugar but I try to keep the flavor and lose the fat where I can. You did the right thing by adjusting the spices to your taste, that is what soul food is about, improvisation!

  • These are so good. I like the instructions to boil first then peel and then cut. It will make your life alot easier. Very simple but delicous. I would love to see your version of cornbread dressing. Thank you and God bless you!

  • I made some for Thanksgiving and will be posting the recipe soon! Thanks for watching.

  • How long did you boil the sweet potatoes for, Mrs. Holmes??

  • Just boil them until they pierce easily with a fork. They should be very tender.

  • OK. I did...however, when I pooured the sugars and spices on them and began to stir them..It turned out more mashed..The yams lost its shape. Why is that and how can I preserve it?

  • Thanks. I just made your Candied Yams for my pot luck dish for work tomorrow. My dish was a success.

  • Great! I am sooo glad it worked out.

  • I tried in boston market but I don't if they add oats???

  • I would like to respond correctly. Can you please repeat your question?

  • The boston market @ recipe I think they add oats and brown sugar , Marshmallows and bake 350 for 20 min

  • I never add oats or marshmallows. I do add pecans when I make a souffle. If you decide to try this recipe, let me know how it turns out.

  • Well this weekend I tried and oats brown sugar and cinammon and bake no boil plus the the can of yams and a little bit of the can(yams) juice.. preheat oven 350 for 20 min adding marshmallows only for 2 more minutes , turn delicious

  • I love candied yams but don't know how to make them the way my moms used to make them (similar to the way you make yams). My moms passed so, she can't teach me. I usually just boil yams, mash them up and then add spices to the mashed yams. Your way of making candied yams is the way my moms used to make them so, I will most definitely try your yam recipe come Thanksgiving next month. Thanks for posting!

  • thanks pamela we def do for thanksgiving i love soul food mmmm mmmm good!!!great recipe ok ? so you boil them tender then slice them and boil on heat or just simmer??
