Both albums are amazing, yet both completely different. I wonder what the new one is gonna sound like? Could they be the new cure? First album starts to be punk then the next few albums become post punk.
i have since drastically changed my mind the horrors are one of the best bands eva the only bit i don't think much of is faris' shirt oh and the volume
No screaming, No yelling, No moshing, You could actually hear the band, See the band, Everyone is just standing and chilling around mesmerized watching them play.<3
i think you can hear my bloody valentine and the jesus and mary chain in their album much more than joy division. also, dont get me wrong here i do love bernard sumner, but when did you ever hear him play guitar like that. josh's guitar sound is completely kevin shields inspired.
People shouldn't be saying 'this band sounds like that band' at all. Every piece of music you listen to influences you, even if you don't like it, it will still steer you in some direction. I'm sure joy division have influenced the horrors but instead of dismissing the sound as similar you should try to find a similarity in the feel.
I mean, oasis sound like the beatles but they don't feel like the beatles. In the same way the horrors dont sound like joy division but feel like joy division.
I paraphrased it but yes. It's a good philosophy and whether I said it or Josh said it doesn't make it any less truthful. The fact I can't say it any better is why I said it in the first place. :P
drums and vocals and keyboards and bass and that invisible guitars are quite perfect. like early-early in the morning you're looking through the window breathing fresh dawn air and having a coffee and a cigarette.
I'm just curious, how much Joy Division have you listened to? Where's the resemblance? To me it sounds melodically much more like a simplistic take on The Smiths and Suede, with some MBV/J&MC textural guitar and the obvious Neu! influence. Illuminate me. I grew up on Joy Division, and I can't find one direct similarity.
your just curious? I probably haven't listened to joy division as long as you have but i actually have an original version of unknown pleasures on vinyl for one thing. I agree the mbv style guitar and others are also seemingly directly influential which i find is a great combination. Personally I can understand that you find no direct resemblance, they just remind me of joy division through peter hook style basslines, and the single stiringed high distorted guitar riffs at times, generalthings
Sorry, I don't mean to seem rude/pedantic, it's just that this JD thing crops up a lot lately and the comparisons seem to be getting less and less pertinent. As someone who grew up in an era when very few people seemed to know anything about JD beyond 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' it's strange to suddenly hear the name thrown around so often. But thanks for the reply.
JD are one of my favourite bands of all time and although i totally agree that there have been too many comparisons lately, i do agree that this does have some similarities with joy division. also there are some similarities (more with other songs on this album) to the cure at the time of disentegration/ pornography
@heathshoegaze hey man your right i may have been a little off on that one for this song but some of their songs have very peter hook like bass lines. But whatever its all good i really like the simple octave alternating bassline in this song :DD
@rottenenglish mhmmm im not sure maybe with a couple of the songs theres some peter hook elements, but like the horrors said they arent infuenced by joy division as much as they are buy bands that influenced joy division like neu! and others. i wonder if the horrors like the velvet underground
wow. this is really really good. better than anything black rebel or any of those mary chain wanna be groups ever did. vocals reminds me a bit of marc almond singing 'she's a secretary in the daytime...
she's got the facilities.. she's got the abilities.." great sound and segues in the song, great presence. amazing. amazing guitar people.
It's some sort of Analogue Modular Synth, making oscillations. Tom uses a Moog Voyager amongst many other things. Read up on Analogue and Modular synthesizers, and listen to some demos, you'll get the general idea very quickly.
@Cosmopolitan171 there's a lot of synth type stuff happening. but the guitarist uses lots of reverb/delay over whammy bar usage. which makes droning sounds
F**k the crowd, who cares man? Maybe they are just cool. If you were in the crowd when Joy Division performed on "Something Else" were you "cool" or "wank"?
The lad on keyboards is the bastard child of Dave Formula - I love these guys! Maybe they are the antidote to Coldplay, Keane, Snow Patrol and all those other dreary, tired old cocks we have all been waiting for?
hmmmm I Alaways ask myself who to react to music like that cause i think that to a banda in my point of view they feel bad if the audience is not euforic i wouuld dance in a strange jeje
He still uses it in some of the more screechy songs but he uses a hollow body guitar now for the more shoegazer style 'wall-of-sound' effect. I'm not able to tell the make of the guitar though, I can't get a good look, sadly.
Yeah, it's been bugging me, I can't tell if it's some Epiphone, Gibson, or Grestch model. I know he also uses a Fender Jazzmaster as well. His choice of guitars are so unique, personally I like the look of the Fender Jag, but the new album sounds amazing, so I guess it's not really a big deal what guitar he uses now.
he has three. the white fender, a cherry red jazzmaster that he uses on tracks like mirrors image and three decades for that swirly guitar sound, and of course the red ibanez
I think at the beginning it's a fast tremolo among other effects and at the end it's like a delay with really bassy/non-trebly sound and a little swell maybe? I dno that's my reckoning but i still can't make it sound right haha.
better they sound like Joy Division than a Jonas brother band...
