  • hahaha this sounds fantastic!

  • mean girls brought me here...im a dude

  • Key & Peele brought me here...

  • But you love ladySmith Black mambazo

  • I like the narraration before the song. I always wondered what this song was about. The narraration explains it.

  • I saw them in concert in Vermont about a year ago, they were great!!

  • The ruined it singing it in English. Where are the clicks? Where are the Uuuurrrpps? I had to make up my own African Gibberish just to do it justice. Also, Did Paul Simon and Ladysmith lack Mambazo ever do it? That would have been the VERY FIRST SONG I woulda done (as a warm-up). That and the WaTusi (damn it, its Constanople, WaTutsi and BaHutu--Tutsies is what I get done when I have a Pedacure!!

  • lol, this woman has lower voice then the other guys that sing this song.

  • Chills. I have chills.

  • I heard this on the Bensons For Beds advert and I've spent literally hours looking for it. I have been through every version on Youtube and completely overlooked this after hearing the intro. Second time around I listened through and what can I say? Simply beautiful.

  • @szatter123 Ha ha, I did that.

  • It doesn't matter what color, gender, or race you are, EVERYONE has to admit that this is absolutely BEAUTIFUL in everyway.

  • would make a beautiful lullaby for my children someday :)

  • mean girls. snm?

  • Umm... Actually lions hunt at nights, so close doors and windows tight, kids, and God help you if you make a sound!

  • I am from England but these ancient voices make me feel home.

what they represent, I just can't find a fair word for.

    I'm happy.

  • @SuperBIGTEL --maybe a combination of serenity, safety, togetherness. I can't place it either, but it's beautiful.

  • @SuperBIGTEL me too friend

  • beautiful,really beautyful ;..)

  • There is static on this recording. A shame..

  • @BrooksMajor its not static its crickets and bush bugs hehe :)

  • @jurapooh rotflmao! crickets and bush bugs. Only someone whose lived there can say that. Oh! the bugs!

  • This creation mythos saves my life....I deeply and humbly thank you!!!

  • acr08807 You have strong opinions, and you're not afraind to express them. In the case on me, and your comment about my book, I take it you have arrived at your opinion AFTER reading the book?

  • Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • during those times when i was still araid of a white person.

  • One love

  • The Soweto Gospel choir ones good too, well if you liked this one anyway, if you're one of the crazy dislikers then I guess you won't. But if you're one of the dislikers I have to ask - what do you like?

  • So your telling me i just sang lady smith black mambazo for nothing?

Would it kill you to be multi-cultural for a minute?

I died a little bit inside yes, are you happy now?

  • Great video. We always go to see L.B.Mambazo when they come to Cornwall. Lovers of Africa appreciate them. I grew up in Tanganyika, later Tanzania. My book, 'Speak Swahili, Dammit!' is doing well on Amazon, & as an Apple iBook & Kindle eBook. Short video on youtube, with original footage in the bush 1950's & 60's, under Speak Swahili, Dammit!

  • @speakswahilidammit It's really not about you or your crap book.

  • how can anyone dislike this?! it's beautiful :)

  • Simply magnificent. Thank your for posting.

  • sing and dance is not enough,,, the creator wants more respect, do u give it to him?

  • Static starts at 2.08 ruins a perfect rendition. Ruins the beauty, too bad.

  • brill peace

  • @rdokoye Africa will never be peaceful as long as they have resources to be desired by the more advanced civilizations of the world (east or west). Until the African elevates himself/herself to the height necessary to be competitive with the tech of the rest of the world they will remain under another's thumb. I wish them the best, but they lack good leadership.

  • Where can I find this version of he lion sleeps tonight?

  • hi

  • JAKE!

  • uauuuuuuu

  • Heavenly harmonies. Enough said.

  • Just appreciate their voices and talent. Stop regurgitating political crap you've been spoon fed by either side of the political fight. I'm sure theres room on a CNN or Fox Television channel for that. Just appreciate these fine people for what they are doing.

  • Magic; pure magic!! *****

  • beautiful!!!

  • Africans have the purest and most beautiful voices! Their tones are rich and beautiful! They sing like heaven!

  • @nawmmbr well put ma dear~ :) their voices are unadulterated~

  • @nawmmbr because smoking isn't as big of a thing there.. j/k.. your right... and they can dance right out of the womb....

  • @fingerfisty yes, I KNOW! I know and dance Djembe and Sabar, too!

  • @nawmmbr so true!!!!

  • @nawmmbr Rap begs to differ...

  • why are there so many hateful comments here? Can you not feel their love for all things in their voices? in their souls? FEEL IT in YOU - give that peace and love to others who surround you - the whole world might be a bit nicer place. Close your eyes and FEEL them.

  • @3RK9Obedience. Your words are like their voices, appreciated by those who can hear the love in them. We are all not blessed in this way. A great friend of mine once told me this and I try to live by it. "Be kind when you can, because not everybody has a love like ours to make them feel the way we do every day of our lives".pity the ones without love. Slan

  • @tapdancer1 Thank you for the understanding :) I want so badly to go see them in real life. I imagine the feeling is not describable! I will always remember what your great friend has told you and what now you have told me. :)

  • @wadza122 quit posting if u want let alone

  • FAVORITE version LBM does poetic justice! PURE AFRICAN SOUND. im not sure but they sound a lot like they were on the white wedding soundtrack I could be wrong. Regardless that was a great soundtrack u should check out. the dvd came out today so I will put that on my wish list.. whiteweddingmovie. com

  • all those long-winded people commenting here should go write a book instead of clogging up this video with their BS

  • omg thank you sooooo much for uploading this!!!!!!!!

  • @wadza122 See if you know what this means - Wewe ni mpumbavu hata katika lugha yako.

  • @wadza122 Is that some a real language or something that a monkey once said ?

  • @wadza122 You have some deep set psycological issues that should be address in an assylum for the criminally insane. I imagine with your attitude to other, that you probably have seen the inside of a cell.

Since your use of the English language so demished, you find that by using the swear words that you do somehow makes you feel like a bigger man - Does it make you feel more powerful using the lack of intelectual syntax. You are obviously a very angry, racist and bitter little man !!!

  • @wadza122 You are an asshole for that comment

  • Comment removed

  • @wadza122 you ridiculous individual

  • @wadza122 Find another forum to spout your aggro. I sincerely doubt that this was posted to encourage people like you to vent your bitterness. Go away.

  • @wadza122 passing through... to enjoy the 'music' as its a video displaying music.. i dont know what ur pathetic argument is about... but language like 'mongrel' 'beige skin' haha... u little prick u deserve a beating... race is race mate, respect it or we can never move on as a race... since when was it wrong to discourage mixing? if you cant except it then stop speaking english and exclude ur self from the rest of the fuckin world u useless bastard if not then behave urself...

  • @wadza122

OK, I have never been to Rhodesia/Zimbabwe nor do I speak any bantu languages. My experiences tend to be more towards the ECOWAS countries. I speak English as well, but I am not going to try to put you down for not speaking Kreyol Ayisyan. As per my race, I am mixed. As for my mother, leave her out of it. I know you are not Americain , based on your poor English and spelling. You can not capitalize correctly or conjugate properly/. Illiterate? I speak, read and write 8 languages.

  • WOOOO MAD VERSION

  • Ah the great mother and father of all are singing . . .

  • @wadza122

You aren't even a real African. All you do is convince Whites and Asians that black people and Africans are as stupid as the old movies show, by the way to write and speak. You can't even write your own language correctly. At least I can read and write English, besides my languages. I can stand up for myself, without having to put others down,. You condemn white people based on their chance race, while on THEIR COMPUTER SYSTEMS and PROGRAMS.

What a waste of a Black man!

  • @haitipi Dr. Mark Dean is a Ph.D. from Stanford University ... He is in the National Hall of Inventors. He has more than 30 patents pending. He is a vice president with IBM. Oh yeah, and he is also the architect of the modern-day personal computer. Dr. Dean holds three of the original nine patents on the computer that all PCs are based upon. And, Dr. Mark Dean is an AFRICAN AMERICAN racist media mainly owned by whites do there best to keep black achievements VERY VERY QUIET!!!

  • @haitipi PEACE to you though, am not attacking you or your views and opinions just thought you should know that. PEACE!!

  • @wadza122

What does it matter what colour my skin is? It seems that it is more important to you than truth. You are just the type of useless Amero-nigger that fucked up Africa in the first placde. First, your relatives trapped and sold other Africans to Muslim traders, then to Europeans. Then, your mongrel clan started inbreeding with Arabs and converting to their religion, even though they just wanted to trick you to screw your ugly women and sell the mongrels to Europeans.

  • Respond to this video...

The problem is that when afrocentric revisionists change history so they can boast of things that never happen, they place themselves in the same position as the ones they uised to condemn.

For example, I used to see many american blacks with T-Shirts claiming that they had something to do with the Egyptian kingdoms of the 3-4 millennium BC. These same idiots would also condemn whites for slavery. They forgot that the Copts were the largest slavers ever

  • @wadza122

Documents? Now you have exposed you ignorance and naivete.

I never presumed anything about your education, race, experience , age. That goes against my nature and profession. I merely explained my life experience and even exposed my ignorance as an idealistic younger man. I have eaten many of my own words and made an ass out of myself many times when I tried patronizing others, finding that they did not need or want their history changed by me to make them feel better .

  • Respond to this video...

I have more info, but you get the point. Whether you believe me, or whether you still believe that white folk was catching stupid animal like African in giant mouse traps, is your choice. But please give Africans a little more credit for intelligence than that. Many Africans voluntarily submit themselves to slavery in order to pay off war debts, debts, or some were POWs. Little did they know that they would be shipped off for good, not just a year or two.

  • Respond to this video...

I was then shown the sites where the Sokoto Caliphate (Muslim Jihadists, the largest holder of Black infidel Slaves in the world, which they are still very proud of) would export slaves to the Americas and other African destination as well as the Middle East. I was shown displays of what the Yorubans did to my hosts Igbo ancestors before they sold them to Arabs, Dutch and Iberian Slavers. In Haiti, there is plenty of evidence.

  • @wadza122

This is what is taught as factual history in ALL universities, where they don't buy White Guilt politically correct garbage textbooks.

I was in Nigeria back in 1992 when I tried to make a comment that I thought me and my fellow guests and hosts would agree on, using a common PC phrase, "when we were stolen from Africa". My Nigerian (all Black African Nigerians) burst out in hysterical laughter asking, "is that what they teach you in the Americas?". More to follow

  • @wadza122

Remember, slavery was going on in Africa for thousands of years before White men knew Africa existed. Don't let it be an excuse for you to get yourself down. What ever you think is lost has actually been thrown away. Pick it up! It's still there, trust me on this.

  • Wadza, people can't make you feel inferior . It is you who are feeling it, hold your head up high and love who you are. Don't try to imitate anyone, be yourself. I am a white African and I love the culture and the people, I don't think anyone is beneath me, just different in some ways. Our love of Africa should be our bond. Love and light x

  • @Topaz2295

I really feel bad for this WADZA guy. So much bottled up hate. It will kill him. There are obviously some deep seated issues that will not be exposed here, nor should they be. He has a mixed race complex, indicating that he is either ashamed of his own mixed heritage, or more likely, that his ex-wife (or current) has hooked up with a white guy. Or maybe it is his mother? We can only speculate, but if he doesn't loosen up, it will kill him one way or another.

  • Hey Wadza I think you are so lucky. You have such a rich culture and you do belong, your connections are so strong your culture is rich your music is so beautiful. Look around and see how much you have. In the bigger scheme of things we are all connected........Be Happy Now!

  • Exquisite...

  • Love the intro :D

  • I've hadd tew studee these ppl for 2 years of choir... they are wonderful... bhudd im gettin tired of it.. =/

  • Wolves? In Africa? Ethopian wolves perhaps but Ladysmith Black Mambazo is Zulu and Zulu are from South Africa. Okay, egghead momment over.

  • @PinkPunkyKat

But isn't that like, "In the Jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight?" Of course, the original Mbube did use those words, but jungles are in Asia, and Lions live in Plains.

  • this is powerfull

  • Africa's land, people and music is beautiful. pity they couldn't stop slaughtering each other, listen to a song like this, then sit back and chill.

  • @mpj531

What do you mean couldn't stop slaughtering each other; my relatives are living fine in Africa.

Most of Africa is peaceful, so stop sprouting ignorance.

  • @rdokoye I'm sooo glad to hear someone say that. Africa isn't all what the media portrays.

    Thankyou.

  • @rdokoye

Thank you for stating THE TRUETH! Africa was at peace LONG before Europe knew it was there, and would probably STILL be at peace had it not been for European influence.

  • @Kingonads well, that goes the same for Asia. :)

  • @Kingonads 'influence' is a very subtle way of putting it. how about enslaving, raping, pillaging, colonizing, robbing, killing and trying to control africa under a cruel violent empire. ¬_¬

  • @rdokoye WELL SPOKEN !

  • @rdokoye yeah problems are congo's somalia, and a few other dictorial areas but other then that gg. the main problem are the radicals and extremists for ideals and religion.

  • This is quite possibly the best version of this song...ever

  • @caminus I agree !... A pure bliss !!!

  • love this song i enjoy all African music

  • yes i know they r all guys DUHHH i never said any of them were girls

  • Simply incredible

  • My uncle produced this record ! :)

  • BUT YOU LOVE LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO

  • @antoniogarciaiii BUT I PROMISED MY FRIEND I WOULD GO TO HER ART SHOW!

  • Ladysmith Black Mambazo - The Lion Sleeps Tonight ... beautiful.....

  • es el mismo artista que canta en la pelicula de akeem un principe en

    New york con eddy murphy

  • Lovely version of the song made popular by movies.

  • Oh my gosh my mom would play this casette to me when I was little! But the tape wore out and I forgot the name of it no matter how hard I tried! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for putting this up or I never would have found it again!

  • @Mightyshwee that makes me happy

  • This Song reminds me of my kids back home. They would request for this cd.................

  • @PyroclasticJoe

Someone else informed me of that as well (not here). I didn't know that.

Ladysmith still makes it sound like a hymn.

  • Drift away and lose yourself to the music that comes from the heart, One love.

  • Only Ladysmith could take this dorky old pop song and make it sound like a hymn.

  • proudly African!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • they are coming to a festival I'm going to, I cannot wait!!!

  • I need som urgent help... Zulu lyrics of the backings vocal which is along the 3rd minute... Thanks in advance...

  • i <3 this song, i listen to it at night when i fall asleep, very soothing.

  • My sister went to south Africa and met the lady smith black mombazo with her choir it was really fun for her:]

  • truly talented!!!

  • I just saw these guys an hour ago/ They're really talented.

  • Just saw them in Pittsburgh - agreed.. they're incredible.

  • I used to listen to this cd every night while I went to sleep when I was in elementary school. I got to on stage with them at a concert and dance, it was great.

  • Can somebody send a video of this song without the noises it has?

Its a beatiful song but those noises spoiles it = (

  • Lady Mambazo is coming to UMSL on Valenintes I plan to take my wife to this perfect for BHM.

  • Not sure why all these unrelated comments are here, but your singing is absoulutely amazing!

  • We all wake to the same sun and sleep under the same moon.......

  • This is true.

  • @mermandrea

Must be a brain full of humanity, warmth and beauty that produces such a comment.

I bow my head to you and wipe a tear from my eye.

  • @cleverwol Thank you!!!! I wish everyone felt this way! Could you imagine a peaceful world!

  • @mermandrea .....oh yeah!.....how i wish our world was at peace....

  • @mermandrea not me motha fucka!!

  • gret song, i love ladysmith, they are great, my fav is homeless

  • 1. Can't I just enjoy the theme from the Lion King without having to read bullshit about bullshit

    and

    2. People who argue over the internet need hobbies

  • 1: This is not the theme of "The Lion King"!

    and

    2: I disagree!

  • 1. It totally is like one of the main songs people remember from the movie so its the unofficial theme but if you dont think so then... "to each his own"

    2. Seeing you are one of those people, you would disagree but seriously y'all should exchange numbers and talk over the phone or something. Maybe then y'all thoughts may be more clearly understood =)

  • If more people were like you then i'd have no one to argue with.

See, Aphidboy... That's how you deal with a prick like me!!!

  • LMAO. Thanks. And most of your points in your arguments are accurate

  • I cant believe some of these comments. Why are you all going on about this nonesense.

We (Britain, America and France) are fighting two wars together NOW. It has affected us all and we are on the same side. Im British, we could have kept out of Iraq and Afghanistan because it was frankly none of our business. But we didnt, because the things going on there were immoral and wrong. So we helped, just like you eventually did for us in WW2.

  • People are dying all round the world, its a reality not a cliche. I think its insane that you are devoting your lives to deciding who has the biggest balls. Well I tell you its neither. The UN has- plus nobody has even dared to mention China or Russia.

  • Gary, you make some good points, although I don't agree that Bush/Blair should have embroiled us in Iraq, which was so rotten to the core that it was harmless. Afghanistan, of course, was the training grounds for the Taliban and Quada. So that was a no brainer. Had to do that one.

Actually My pal Shteak and I are mostly just goofing on each other -- two dopes too dull to go do something constructive, I'm afraid. So, don't be offended. Have a mint and a jolly good day.

  • 1: Haiti... The Haitian relief effort??? WTF! What about New Orleans?

2: London was badly damaged, but nowhere near destroyed, and those dead Americans you mentioned were probably running away from something deadly.(that's what my grandad told me. You tend to panic in battle.)

3:Gary, i have NO interest in bashing the U.S. or anything else... I'm simply disagreeing with everything A-Boy says... Strange how it ended up here but if you read all the comments you'll find that he picked the battles.

  • What a sorry, lying sack of shit you really are. Take a look at how this started WITH YOU CHALLENGING MY USE OF THE WORD HOLY. I picked the battles, huh?

Well, I've satisfied my curiousity about you. You haven't studied, you don't read, you claim to use logic when you don't understand the principles of rhetoric, and you also lay claim to a sense of humor without once being able to demonstrate it. You can Kiss my ass, you phoney turd. I'm sorry I've wasted so much time on you.

  • You are correct about one thing: "simply disagreeing with everything A-Boy says." Right or wrong, you've certainly done that, but to what purpose? To prove that you're a smart lad?

I repeat my question: What is GB doing to help the people of Haiti?

  • Wow... Your delusions have returned... And you were doing so well, too. 1: You brought up, Religion, William Blake, anger/hostility, the Constitution, War, America, Britain, bombing London and haiti, Haiti, HAITI!!!

2: Haiti... I even did a little search and (even though we're thousands of miles away) we have been sending aid since the disaster began. Just look yourself on the BBC website... Also, bigger than any aid is the fantastic song Simon Cowell is about to release... So, crisis over!

  • P.S. 3: What about New Orleans? Which still needs aid! Which you did nothing about until it was too late, and then didn't EVER do enough... We also sent tonnes of aid for that... Which our poor little country shouldn't have to do for the mighty colony.

4: I still haven't seen this "white flag" you apparently have that proves you're the bigger person... Guess you're just blowing smoke!! ...I knew THAT from your first comment!

  • The reason there is a Haitian Relief Effort is because Haiti is a poor country. Why on earth would anyone need to consider sending international aid to the richest country in the world? Oh, it's because they have enough money to take care of themselves. Moron.

  • Funny!!! You'd have thought that the "richest country " in the world would have done something about New Orleans, then... Oh, but they failed miserably, and now there is still lasting damage and billions of dollars worth of U.S. Citizens property that will NEVER be recovered... And, just in case you're as ignorant as most internetters, New Orleans was one of the poorest places in America, and most of the people displaced had little or nothing. America has some balls sending relief to Haiti!

  • Stop being so stupid you two. The US was forced into the war to save itself as was Great Britain. Think instead of the harm both have done in the name of self interest. None of us can rightly hold their head high, maybe learn from exploiting others and harming them so much in the process

  • You're right, Tess. This thread degenerated very quickly into complete nonsense. (Both of us are guilty.)

My friend shteak has all the answers, and I'm too "ignorant" to make any headway, so I'll run up the white flag and stack arms. While I'm not a religious man nor a hawkish patriot, I've been surprised at the amount of anti-religion, anti-American sentiment expressed here.

  • Oh, i'm impressed... I love how your supposed "white flag" comes equipped with several parting shots... Golly gee whiz fellah, i'd sure look stupid pressing the argument further since my opponent has so graciously bowed out. Bang!! Bang!! ...Urgh... Ya' got me, pardner... Guess you win... I surrender!

P.S. I am not anti-American! I may be anti-an-American, but that's different... Oh, and it was Dickface who brought up America, not me... And he also proved how blinkered his word view was. Bye!

  • Dear Baby Jesus,

Please forgive shteak for being a pud. He hates you, but I know you don't mind. You're so great, Baby Jesus.

    Holy, holy, holy!

  • ...And you know what... The very next day, the grumpy, grumpy Shteak became the happiest boy in the world! And Jesus made him sandwhiches for supper... ...The End.

Mmmmm... That was a good one. Next week, Shteak finds some vicars interfering with boys at a convention in Rome, and calls Moses personally inviting him to come watch... Stay Tuned!!!

  • I'm so sorry the bad priests pulled down your knickers, old sport, but Baby Jesus will make that all better. I'm so glad he's entered your life.

Now, if only we could now direct some V-2s toward your village, we'd have this thing wrapped up. Could you give us 8-digit map co-ordinates, please?

Oh, yes. And what the heck is a P.H.D.? Is it something required before you're allowed to torture kittens?

    Cheers, old Bean.

  • I thought you'd given up, and now i find you back here again trying to come off on top...Vietnam springs instantly to mind, but that would be a cheap shot, so instead i've decided to turn the other cheek and be the bigger boy. Besides, my superior sense of humour is wasted on the likes of you... Your efforts are lazy and predictable, much like your wars... Tell me, has America ever won any wars? ...You know... Against a real country? Not a third world shit pot!!! I can't think of any.

  • Well, you are clearly superior in every way, Amigo. How could I dispute that?

American wars won against "a real country." The American Revolutionary War (1775-1783 comes to mind.

The distruction of the German armies from North Africa thru Italy to the Rhine in '44 and '45, might also apply. (Especially since British forces were driven into the sea at Dunkirk earlier.)

(The British Expeditionary Forces in WW I, however, were the best soldiers in the World at that time.

  • See... I knew you'd say that... Predictable, as usual, Mr.Boy. Unfortunately for you, and your country, it is well known throughout the world that the American Revolutionary war was in fact won by the French... You guys threw some stones and then ran away to hide behind some trees... Didn't you know??? ...It's always the French!

  • What a bullshit artist you are. I'm curious about just what combination of drugs you put in your system every day before heading over to Youtube.

While I'm not a big defender of all things American, I am curious about what Great Britian and France are contributing to the Haitian relief effort right now, while my country is sending ho
