I'm from the San Francisco Bay Area. Population is really big here. And, yes I met my Rep when I was 10 years old and still know her today, my father was a huge supporter and contributer. I've always gotten a response from my Rep. and it seems that in your case your Rep. is just impotent. Scalia might be a social conservative, but that does not make him a homophobe. I have gay friends who know I don't support gay marriage.

The reason Scalia and probably Thomas would not strike down the Defense of Marriage Act however, is that they are originalists who interpret the constitution as it is. Since there is no Right to Marriage in the Constitution, they leave it up to Congress. They're not saying "No gay marriage." They're saying "let it come democratically."

And you are correct inasmuch as there are certain concerns that the framers could not have foreseen. This is why we have a legislature. If you want a constitutional right to homosexual conduct, marriage, and the like, pass a law or amend the Constitution.
