A very nice rendition, but I think all these singers that try to sing these iconic Streisand songs are lacking in a certain area - Magic. In Barbra's songs you can really feel the passion and magic in her songs that bring them to life in a way never seen before. It is what makes Barbra truly magical. :)
I love it when Beyonnce says: "It's an honor to sing for you Ms. Streisand, thank you." I don't know why, but it made me tear up a little, the first time that I'd heard it.
I can only hope that when Beyonce is Striesand's age that younger singers will have just as much respect for her as she did for the legends before her.

Well, actually she had been performing for 4 days str8 and the taping of the DVD was the last performance. Ask any singer to perform for 4 str8 days and do a DVD, their voice is going to be tired.

I can see that Beyonce occasionally has trouble controlling her vibrato but this is an excellent performance. I am not sure what link you are drawing between vibrato and holding back though? As an opera singer I have a lot of vibrato but it doesn't have any effect on my dynamic ability. I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious as to what you mean! :)
i was saying that because when i watch her sing on her concert dvds her vibrato is much more fluid and not as forced...but when she has big performances like this for example it seems if she is a bit nervous..idk maybe not

The thing with this particular song is, it can be quite boring and send people to sleep IF NOT delivered correctly or if it wasn't Barbra herself singing. Beyonce did a good job though, whenever she does a tribute it's always similar to the original she rarely gives her own stamp to it.

Obviously, you haven't heard Barbra singing "nowadays." Her voice remains as solid and flawless as ever. She set, and maintains, a standard that I doubt will ever be surpassed.

A very nice rendition, but I think all these singers that try to sing these iconic Streisand songs are lacking in a certain area - Magic. In Barbra's songs you can really feel the passion and magic in her songs that bring them to life in a way never seen before. It is what makes Barbra truly magical. :)

first, i think this chick is waaaaaay over-rated. that being said, i think she did a good job with this. i never thought she could sing a song like this, but she did a good job with it...........she still can't touch streisand. i'm not a big fan of hers either- but her voice is amazing.

Well, actually she had been performing for 4 days str8 and the taping of the DVD was the last performance. Ask any singer to perform for 4 str8 days and do a DVD, their voice is going to be tired.

What are you talking about?! Unlike most singers, Beyonce's voice gets better with time! Listen to clips of her even 3 or 4 years ago.. Completely different! Her voice is as strong as ever. Besides, I think Barbra enjoyed it just the same.

Beyonce is not "holding back," she's performing. That's the difference between her and all the other silly pop musicians who no one will remember in fifty years. If she sang every song at full tilt, she'd just be a one-note. Beyonce's the consummate performer; she puts her all into her work *with respect to the limits of the performance." She can't be "Single Ladies" for something like this. Even if you're not into her CD's, you can't deny that she is one of few amazing talents today.

@rwmusic i totally agree..there is a time and place for everything...and have to be wise on how you certain songs are song and for this particular song, just happens to have some mellow, sweet tone to it..and not always gospel-soul sounding growling music all the time. although I love is soooo much...but like i said, time and place for everythign....

I can see that Beyonce occasionally has trouble controlling her vibrato but this is an excellent performance. I am not sure what link you are drawing between vibrato and holding back though? As an opera singer I have a lot of vibrato but it doesn't have any effect on my dynamic ability. I'm not disagreeing with you, just curious as to what you mean! :)

i was saying that because when i watch her sing on her concert dvds her vibrato is much more fluid and not as forced...but when she has big performances like this for example it seems if she is a bit nervous..idk maybe not

@dacor31 i bought new dvd intimate performance in LA, and was shocked how beyonce ruined her voice she could barely talk, in her songs there is nothing of it yet, but she wont be able to keep that standard of singing for next 10 years

The thing with this particular song is, it can be quite boring and send people to sleep IF NOT delivered correctly or if it wasn't Barbra herself singing. Beyonce did a good job though, whenever she does a tribute it's always similar to the original she rarely gives her own stamp to it.

Idina kill'd it with "BARBRA U're MY BIGGEST FAN" bit n i love her great voice but her voice didn't match tempo of song, she should've pick'd Superman or something of conscience tempo for her voice and song become as One as Beyounce did, cause hey I don't know but B did pick that song either and as a singer in theatre its not my strong't suit(yet)
