  • Great song. He looks like Lou Diamond Phillips in La Bamba!

  • This version is much better than Tab Hunter's

  • Always brings back memories.

  • Forever etched in my heart and our minds -- plus all eternity

  • Isn't it odd that there were so many country songs that were popular in the late 50's!!! They were all great and bring back so many memories!!! THANKS!!

  • I never heard this until now and I'm asking myself what have I missed. This should never be missed.

  • Love it...thanks!

  • How I loved the "Southern Genteman" , memories come back from the fifies!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Who are the 17 fools who dislike this? One of the greatest recordings of the 50's.

  • first time i've heard this as i never heard of sonny james, oh woh, i am missing out alot, this song is lovely!

  • I used to listen to this when I was a teenager and during a bad divorce in the early 70's. I still love to hear Sonny James. He was on Mike Huckabee several shows back. Great legend.

  • Happy 82nd birthday, Sonny. This will always be one of my favorite songs...still have the 45.

  • I would like to see Scotty on American Idol sing this one.

  • just beautiful

  • elvis is not ,crap,WAKE UP As HO.

  • And I have been practicing my hand clapping LOL

  • I think the clapping sound is due to the drums and the way the mikes were set up. In the record you can hear the same thing, but its not as pronounced. I believe he may very well be the greatest singer that ever lived. He sang country, but he was not country.

  • I love the fancy clapping that is with this. I also remember when this was on the raido.

  • This was my mom and dad's song. My dad used to sing it to her. It is a beautiful song, and makes me cry, as my dad passed away in August.

  • The heavenly touch of ur embrace.

  • What an amazing and gifted singer, the country gentleman.....we could use his kind of music now..

  • @MrHannes38

I thought he looks like Valens as an older guy odd , but good song as first time heard

  • One of the original rock and roll ballads, or at least during the original rock and roll era. I remember listening to it in 1958. I was in the 8th grade!

  • now this is music all you kid's out there listoning to the new music.. are listoning to the wrong stuff...

  • i love this song it was my grandparents song my papa use to play it

  • I will be 57 in less then 2 wks. And on my b'day a man I've had a crush on for over 40 yrs has finally got enough nerve to take me out for dinner. and this song just seems to fit. Thank you

  • awesome. great great music

  • Absolutely heartwarming ! You wanna hear a beautiful love song coming from someone's heart & soul.....listen to Sonny James pour it out here. Man, the way he expresses the lyric "emotion" hits the nail square on the head. The whole song really takes you on a heavenly journey....thank you for posting.

  • I'm 19.

and Im astonished by this music

  • beautiful song!

(you notice the cameraman doesn't take a full length shot -that's because sonny james is doing the percussion himself with dustbin lids strapped to his feet)

  • This song is all about emotion. The stuff that came out of the late 50's & early 60's was the foundation of so much music that would follow. I'm proud to be a baby boomer(now 58),hear a beautiful gem like this, & feel captured in what was a wonderful era in fine music & harmonies back then.

  • @jbyesterday 54 and couldn't agree more !!!

  • Man do I wish I was around in the 50's-60's man did I mis out. The songs back then had so much passion makes me so sad. the crap they have today is nothing compared to back then.

  • @MrNorthPaw LOL...I was growing up during that time - and yes, the music was very 'singable' - that's why it has held up so well to this day. (of course, the 30's-40's were also times of incredibly great POPULAR music.).

  • The video quality is a joke.

  • very passionate :P

  • I'm 15 & love 50's SO much.

  • First record I ever bought. GREAT SONG " ...filled with true devotion ..." and then life happened. I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

  • good song

  • Danced to this song at my high school prom in '55, THE BEST OF TIMES!!!!!

  • very cool

  • how does he jump around the screen like that AWESOME!

  • young one

  • i dont want sonny james .. iwant wilf carter

  • We married after three dates and that was 59 years ago. This has always expressed our thoughts about each other.

  • If it weren't for Elvis I doubt if R&R would have made it to the masses.

  • Hello every one,

It is so nice to see some young people enjoying the music the way it was back when.

I am in my 50s and this is all that played in the house.

I do love rock as well most of it would be the oldies.

Keep listening lots more out there and these songs should be lost.

  • i got married at 19...i am 35 now and we're still married...sometimes it's hard to remember the days of our young love, but, i make it a point to flash back to our salad days...

  • @jenzeppelin I got married at 19 when this song came out.. I'm now 73 and have been married to that same girl ever since. We were teens in the neat years

  • @DONWTH That is the sweetest story I have heard in a long time. Blessings to you and your wife...so sweet.

  • @DONWTH That's amazing!

  • @elpollococo Just got back from my 55th class reunion. We got to drive around to some of the places where we went on dates. Most places are gone, but we still saw them in our memories as they were in the 50's

  • @DONWTH Aww, I can't wait to do that!

  • @elpollococo Only problem, we could figure out what happened to all of those teens we once knew. Every one was old at the reunion

  • This is when music was music!!!

  • Wow! This dude was cool! He gives me an ELVIS vibe. This song will last 4 generations 2 come!

  • Does this ever bring back memories! Gives me the chills, it does.

  • Want To Hear Some Never Before Heard Oldies Music Come To My Page

  • GREAT! Especailly after 52 years. Wow! Time flies!

  • Thank you!

  • 0:34 that looks sick.

  • videos that survive from back then can be in any shape..appreciate it and just watch it

  • yeah i meant "sick" in a good way. i've appreciated it since first watching it and learned how to play it, and written another song off the chord progression. yickeee yeeeeee!

  • just a s I remember

  • simply the best

  • We knew him in Mexico City as " El caballero del sur"

  • Perfect, beautiful, touching song. I love this video because of how raw it is. Thank you for posting this.

  • If our elders and our young mates would try to listen new and old stuff toghether we would not have crap like britney, jackson, elvis, u2 and the other mass sensations. I am 29 and i grew up with hardcore underground punk and hip hop on one ear and johnny cash or buddy holly in the other. And all i get is that only honest music (like this song) is worth it.

  • Zumbie - very well said.

  • @zumbie

    Elvis is different D:

  • @zumbie Wtf is wrong with Elvis?

  • @illusionistdave

Hate Elvis, he was good at beggining, but he's one of those studio dummies. Just sing the song that makes money in each moment, is like Tina Turner for me, when she was with Ike (and i don't like Ikes violence) had something special, but "you're simply the best?" omfg, what was that? Elvis had good stuff, but he lost his ways, he started to do what was supposed to. I'm one of those that think Buddy Holly is the king, Elvis a puppet. But i know Elvis and MJ maniacs are so fidel

  • @zumbie you know nothing and etc

  • @zumbie well elvis isnt that bad he actually started in gosple

  • @zumbie My uncle actually played bass for Sonny in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember seeing him play for both Sonny and Don Gibson on the same night. They played at the Peoria Shrine Mosque in Peoria Illinois.

Sonny was a born again Christian and refused to play any venue that sold alcohol.

  • @zumbie There is absolutely nothing wrong with Elvis! Elvis was a southern boy with a big heart and an amazing voice. If you don't like Elvis that is fine but please do not refer to his music as crap. The others I agree they are crap for the most part, but each one had outstanding songs. For instance Michael Jackson's Man in the Mirror. While you do have the right of freedom of speech remember that everyone has there on taste in music. Voice your opion but respect others as well!

  • @twdjm92 i was talking about industry not music. but when somebody says anything bad about this "kings" everybody goes mad. You say that Elvis was a good guy with amazing voice, okey, and MJ's man in the mirror is worth it, fine, but both of them became a brand that made entire generations to adore them in an insane way that is harmful for the music in general as I see it. It's my opinion and is what mi first message was about. I don't blame Elvis as a aperson I blame Elvis™ as I blame the other

  • There have been many songs recorded about young love, but this is my favorite of all time. I've been married to the same women for 40 years, and this song still expresses the emotion I had for her 40 years ago!

  • Respect to you for saying so. God bless you both.

  • classic

  • Another GREAT crossover hit to the Oldies format. And the Hits just keep on comin. You Cannot kill Great Music like this.More kids are listening to this great music.ANALOG LIVES FOREVER.FUCK DIGITAL.

  • @shaneraleigh Nice to hear that a young person like yourself can appreciate a true class act like Sonny James. He is one of the greats that you just don't hear much about anymore. But us old guys won't forget him.

    Thanks.

  • Mexico D.F. 1960 que tiempos aquellos.

    Good memories.

  • Awesome...timeless!

  • True heartfelt feelings. The innocent fifties. Sonny James(jimmy Loden) of Hackleburg, Al. is still alive and kicking! Amen!

  • I loved playing this song on my radio show before ROBOTS replaced live DJs

  • How Do You Get Clips Like This? Love To Have Them, Lovley Song

  • Beautiful song, love Sonny James; the Southern Gentleman.

  • I loved this one as a child. Thanks for the post.

  • I also remember this song as a teenager,I danced to it alot

  • Those days were certainly a lot kinder than today. I am not too familiar with any new music (new meaning the last 3 years or so, but the little that I do know does not do much for me. I miss "our" music so much, but I am so thankful that so much of it shows up on You Tube.

  • According to Wikipedia this song was written by Ric Carty and Carole Joyner.

Carty recorded the song on 11/24/1956; it did not chart. The Versions by Tab Hunter, 1/19/1957 and Sonny James 1/5/1957 went to number one and sold millions of copies. What timeless and beautiful lyrics!

  • fantastic wow i remember the dances

  • Do any of you guys know that song called Honey by Bobby Goldsboro?

  • I remember B.G. and Honey. " See the tree, how big it's grown but then, it hasn't been so long..." I liked Bobby. I liked "Watching Scotty Grow", a great song as well.

  • hey man i am with you lets bring em back

  • ik ben bijna 60 jaar maar dit is nog steeds 1 van mijn favorite nummers.

  • BamaTony73 I also love this song by Sonny James i have not heard this song in over 40 years but i know all the words and for years i would sing it a few months ago i did what you did.ask your dad if he liked the song Half way to paradise and if so ask him who was the one who sang it when he first heard it.

  • to "nickyno72" - you foul language is crude and rude and you may think you are being cool but you are just showing your immaturity and ignorance. This is a great song by Sonny James .. show some respect or keep your mouth shut please.

  • this was the very first record that I ever bought. a 45 didn't even have a record player. Liked the song so well. i was only in my teens. that's been a while.....

  • i fuckin' love this song!

  • LANGUAGE DUDE, HAVE SOME RESPECT!!!

  • I don't know. I am not sure how my 75 year old Mother would feel if I said on Thanksgiving day, "That's good fucking turkey Mom!" Thats why I like some of the old music and tv shows. You don't need to curse to express your true feelings. Young love is case in point.

  • Chorus: Young love, first love, Filled with true devotion, Young love, our love, We share with deep emotion. Just one kiss from your sweet lips, Will tell me that your love is real, And I, I, I can fe-el that it's true. We will vow to one another, There will never be another, Lo-ve for you, or for me. Chorus: Young love, first love, Filled with true devotion, Young love, our love, We share with deep emotion.
  • Thanks for sharing the lyrics. They're simple but sound great set to music.

  • They say for every boy and girl,

There's just one love in this old world,

    And I, I kn-ow, I, I, I've found mine.

The heavenly touch of your embrace,

Tells me no one will take your place,

    A, A, A, A, ever in my heart.

  • nolarae1929 nice job of great song,thanks.

  • This is one of my all time favorite singers. I am looking for a song he did back in the 50's called SUGAR LUMP. Does anyone know how to get holdd of this song?

  • i dont have that but can give you a porn dvd called nasty neighbors

  • You're funny. I have about 20 of this guy's albums and the song I am looking for isn't on any of them.

  • well i cant help ya out there, but if ya want a home made video or margaret and me i can get that for ya lol

  • Do you remember my e-mail?

  • AND they call you Mr. Shorty because of your height?

  • such a sweet song... someday maybe someone will sing this to me. :) that is a dreamy painted backdrop

  • The song A Little Bit South of Saskatoon that plays while Paul Newman is driving his car in Slap Shot was by Sonny James.

  • in those days he was country, tab was r&r, country["hillbilly"] was looked down on. todays country is mainstream and sounds like yesterday's r&r.

  • This is one of my dad's favorites! I just had to see if it was on YouTube and what do you know, here it is lol

  • I still have the Capital '78' record of this song. One of the first guitar intros I ever learned.

  • Wow this brings back memories-great song thanks for posting

  • I love this version the best.. remember every note!!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time!!

  • me too,i love this song

  • payola was a disgrace on music, all artists should get a fair hearing

  • when tab hunter came out with his version the radio stations stopped playing this version. I think they called it payota. this version made it to no 1

  • Wonderful. I only knew the Tab Hunter version...but this guy could sing!

  • thank you ...thank you....my heart is caught up some where in that song....the girl I loved is still my love......

  • WOW, what a voice ... his was the first music that caught my attention when riding with my dad in the car .., I must have been what - 7 years old ! thank you

  • sounded great to a teenager in 56' and still does. What ever happend to Sonny

  • He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame last year. As far as I know he is living in his hometown of Hackleburg, Alabama.

  • Great classic! Too bad the video has the Max Headroom moves to it....

  • Sonny is a great rock and roll singer. Youtube search MANUEL VARGAS (DISCO 45 and VIVA EL ROCK AND ROLL) and you will see an honoring to this one and others singers and songs of these years.

  • Thanks for the post. Nice of you to keep footage from so long ago. We've gone through our archives and don't have this one! Thanks again // Paul

  • Great Outstanding Alabama boy

  • This gorgeous song reminds me of Dame Elizabeth Taylor and Rory Emerald. Thanks for posting a true classic.

  • Amazing.....A Rockabilly singer who never had a hit, then all of the sudden he proves he really has a voice, but never to do it again.....

  • "never to do it again?" Sonny had 16 straight #1 singles..and a career total of 23!

  • A bit well flippy but great to see the original artist performing this great song,

    Thanks a million for posting,
