If you want to make a good song you need to strip it down so that all you have are lyrics and a simple chord progression. Then you add extra's. Metalllica weren't doing that and had lost that sense of focusing on things load and reload were badly constructed.

Bob was good with Metallica (Black album), Load and Reload, but St.Anger was crap, I still love it but... Yeah. It's good they're going back to their thrash roots instead of hard rock. I agree. I still find it funny how Hammett puts up a legitimate beef, which lasts all of 90 seconds, before caving in to the other threes demands.
Bob Rock didn't even bother to produce this album and you can tell the way all the songs drag on.... probably too caght up with playing bass.

@TheRealRGCV the black album was awesome!! they still had riffs from before bob rock and he sort of helped them organize them into more refined versions which worked great, but after that they started on the ob rock system from scratch and it sucked. they fired him for death magnetic and got rick rubin to produce it and i personally lliked it...

@zerbo803 Some of the titles were leftovers. Struggle within, enter sandman, sad but true, but the songs were not. The songs were compiled from riff tapes. James and Lars got together, started piecing them, and they went into the studio.

i agree with kirk on this one,the solos & leads are one of the many things that make metallica's music unique.whats the point of cutting out a part of the music u love to make for the sake of a trend?lars should just focus on his drumming,leave the guitar parts to the guitarists.bob rock can fuck off,he hasn't produced a decent metallica record since the black album & then downgraded them to trendy watered down hard rock.why they listened to him i'll never know.

@juliuscaesarize first off,u might wanna go back to elementary to brush up on ur math.last i checked 4 out of 10 songs isn't half,kid.secondly,if u think everything metallica made after dave sucks then u obviously never heard songs like no remorse,trapped under ice,disposable heroes,or shortest straw.the first 4 albums,hell actually their first 5 albums to this day are looked at as classics.the handful of songs dave wrote did not make them.

@theooo12345678 honestly, I think it has very little to do with playing the solos, so much as the ideas underlying their exclusion. I think the idea that Metallica change with the times for popularity is something that bugs Kurt to some degree, and he's just way too nice a guy to call bullshit on Bob Turribad Rock or Lars

The fact that st anger isn't as good is down to the fucking musicians, you all saw the shit they were going through and it made them push an album out that they weren't fully 100% committed to doing.
