All of you dumb dumbs saying he is holding the rifle wrong. Let me enlighten you. It doesn't matter how you hold the rifle, whether it be by the mag/mag well or the lower hand guards. You shoot how you feel comfortable. The question is it is comfortable for you and can you put rounds down range accuratly. If you can, then that's the way you should. Not how somebody tells you wear your non firing hand should be placed.
@NIGHTEHAWK No shit, this video is over 2 years old and it was my very first time shooting the AR-15. I can shoot 0.14 splits now while maintaining accuracy.
just saying, forgot to identify the chamber first but wat evs. always good to make sure its not a malfunction before reloading and possibly jamming up the gun with another round. but its the first time anyways
i understand that placing the support hand on the magwell is less stable than on the handguard of VFG/AFG, however, I shoot and feel comfortable with my support hand on the magwell. I have considered changing this, but I will soon be going to basic training and I don't want to break this habit just to have to learn it again. Does the military still encourage the magwell grip? Or should I break this habit? (I want to be the best I can at shooting the way I will be taught at basic / ait) Thanks.
@kcpanther14 You want to shoot well, join the Marines. No other service spends as much time on the range as Marines. Marines didn't teach me to hold the magwell either. Shoot however is best for you.
bullshit. You'd be surprised the AF has some of the best shooters out of any US branch. The AF also has their own dedicated weapons instructors, not some random SGT from your infantry brigade.
@zseartcc25 The Marine Corps has Primary Markmanship Instructors, not random Sgt.'s. I'm sure every one is gonna get on here and say that their service has the best shooters. I was a Marine, I always qualified expert, so I'm gonna go with Marines. If you were a good shooter, congrats to you too. Marines are known for their shooting skills.
@shamrock84922 Read the description. I later learned that the magwell hold provides very poor control, but that's what the military taught me initially. If it makes you feel any better, I do a straight up USPSA 3-gun competition type hold with my thumb over the bore.
hey man nice vid just remember never slap that lever for battery. you always want to push it with your thumb. if you hit it with your hand like that hard enough you will cause the magazine to double feed into the chamber. ;p just a lil hint haha. nice vid though gj.
Nice rifle man. I actually ordered the exact same kit from Del-Ton. Quick question: Any problems with the BCG? I've read on varies forums that people say that their BCG isn't as good as others; gas key isn't staked properly.
@MisterPo The staking is there, but it isn't as "aggressive" as some others I have seen. That being said, I've fired at least 2k rounds now and have had no problems besides user error.
im ordering a 16 inch middie kit with chrome BCG, A2 upper from delton. Looks great! How is your delton holding up? Would you trust it to home defense? How regularly do you clean it?
My Del-Ton is awesome. After shooting 1000+ rounds, I have had one malfunction, which I'm 99% sure is magazine related.
My AR is set up more for racing than defense (as seen in my later videos), but I would trust it. I prefer to use handguns for home defense just because they're easier to maneuver with, are less likely to over-penetrate, and are more "jury friendly".
I clean mine ever couple hundred rounds or so and I exclusively shoot Russian steel cased ammo.
Check out Hornadyle(dot)com for .223 urban 40-55grain rounds in ballistics gel pictures. You might be surprised as I was. I think most swat and raid teams are using M4's for this reason. I totally agree however, for maneuverability, and concerning a jury biased towards "the black rifle" a pistol might be best.
Thanks for the quick update and info!
Btw, out of curiosity, have you taken a carbine course or something? By the looks of your other vids you look pretty well prepared. Thumbs up man!
@ViEtRiCeR it is a great weapon but for home defense , the round travels at such a high volocity, its bound to kill long after it enter and leaves an intruder, you might want to invest in something more like a shotgun for that
The idea is that you check the breech when the threat is down, to see if you should just flick the safety back on and shut the dustcover, or reload/clear jam as the situation dictates. That's why he didn't do it the first time.
The parking lot is in very close proximity to the range so that minimal effort is required to transport your belongings from your vehicle to the bench.
Thats cool man i want to get some guns once i turn 18 but bleh i need to get a steady job first haha xD I want to shoot that ar that you got :D and the pistol :DD
dang, fast reload man

I don't know what kind of military you're in, but they don't teach you to hold by the magwell, they teach you to hold by the handguards.

@seanmmeyers1 agreed there great gun, I personally own a Bushmaster but get a shotgun for home defense. You can buy a 870 next to nothing these days.

How much have you spent on all your guns all together and were are you from?
minimepogi 2 years ago
Somewhere around $2300. It's the ammo that kills your wallet. I've probably spent at least equal that amount on ammo so far.
I'm from the great state of Texas, but go to school in Indiana.

Time to invest in some PMAGs!

I would, except I have 9 USGI and one C Products mag.
Once those fail, I'll invest in some PMAGs. I don't mind not owning a single Magpul product at the moment. ;)

The description mentions that you "corrected [your] support hand grip." Please elaborate on this because I don't see anything wrong with it.
