I'd love to convert my Mustang to diesel. Right now it produces 300 pounds-feet of torque using gas. With diesel it would probably be around 350+. And torque equals acceleration which is what we need more than horsepower.

Take that same setup and pair it up with an electric generator and you could increase the range and efficiency of a '63 Continental or a present-day limousine.

You can't even get that with a gas-hybrid.

Torque isn't the end all be all. Gearing is important. Otherwise the semi truck you pass every day from a dead stop, would be kicking your butt. Horse power is derived from torque and time, so it's not less important either. Think about torque as how quickly you hit the wall, and hp as how fast you're going when you hit it.

...Here's something for you to mull around in that noggin. My 1994 Ford Ranger has broken down a few times, for a timing belt, and the tranny. We rebuilt the tranny and gave it a new timing belt, all the maintenance done on it by myself my dad, and my friend. Total cost: roughly 500bucks. The truck has 268,400 miles on the original engine, runs great, goes places audi's can't, and can still tow your audi up and down the street. So please, keep thinking you get what you pay for, please.

Let me take a crack at it. the Z06 and the GS have killed audi's top racers at the ring, this means the R8 got is ass handed to audi in a gift box. lets take a look here, you could buy a 45,000 dollor corvette GS and go out a beat your 150,000 dollor R8 stock for stock. and your telling me Americans cant take corners? Audi cant even get there own motor out cause they have to steal a Lambo V10 Motor, even then it only made 520Hp, thats less that the CTS-V which makes 550HP with better turning

What are you talking about, Corvette not in endurance races? i see them racing with all the top racers on speed, 24 hour cups and 1000 lap challenges. the CTS-V was doing GT cups Along with the Pontiac Gran Prix GTP's so you just got owned on that front. and comparing a NON-SUPERCHARGED CAR to a SUPERCHARGED CTS-V is all far considering you need two more cylinders and an added 100,000 dollors.

you guys have to be kidding... The Diesel Le Mans car is much heavier than the petrol one, if it was the same weight it would win even more. The rules are changed to keep the race competitive. Diesel has obviously much more torque and a much better fuel economy (which allows them to do almost 2 additional laps on the same tank. Over 24h that obviously adds up). One day even the US will understand that...

the engine and body has alerady been tuned to the most ideal specs while staying in the regulations.

it alerady dominated petrol operated cars when they released their R10 TDI.

The only time they lost with the R10 TDI is when Peugoet released a diesel of their own. it beat the R10 on the races leading to the 24 hours of Le Mans, but on the 24 Hour of Le Mans, it still beat it due to, Fuel Efficency and tires (Less pit stops) and that peugoet decided to run slicks on the wet track.

And here they are one of the best and strongest car companys in the world!!!
