It's too divisive to have two competing official languages in one nation or state. Canada has big problems of disunity due to its bilingualism, including the potential for civil war. Noone's talking about outlawing spanish in Arizona. But to create split society--one spanish and one english--is bad for cohesiveness. There needs to be a common language. China has many dialects which are as different as languages, but the government promotes Mandarin as the official language to promote national unity! Italy picked the Italian dialect of Florence as the official dialect for national unity! Other countries with dialects do the same. I really do miss the Thai resturants there, especially the one Elvis use to go to Frequently, Here it would be too much for them to have Thai food becuase they are not use to Spicy food. So when I go to Trinidad I go to the one Thai place that even for the locals the Pepper is too much! LOL! There are no historically hispanophone regions of the USA. Regions of the southwest were colonized by Spain or Mexico, but those were inhabited by Native American tribes. There needs to be a common language. China has many dialects which are as different as languages, but the government promotes Mandarin as the official language to promote national unity! Italy picked the Italian dialect of Florence as the official dialect for national unity! Other countries with dialects do the same. Sorry for so many responses, one last thing, don't forget that at least 6.5 million USian live abraod. Many of them live in Latin America, Mexico alone has about 1.3 Million gringos. & most of them do not speak the language of thier host country very well or any at all. Dutch is NOT a defacto language in Brazil. But according to you it should be! In Sweden we have people who speak Finnish, Sami, Arabic, Kurdish, Serbo-Croatian, Russian, French, German, and the list goes on. But, guess what, all of them also speak SWEDISH. French and English are not "languages of Canada." Language divides people. French is the de facto language of Quebec. It's not a bilingual state. Everything is done in French. Same with other English-speaking states. And since different states can't communicate well there's a large separation movement in Quebec. BILINGUALISM weakens a state. Stop the conspiracy theories. Bilingualism does not work because it doesn't work! I live in Europe. You live in South America which doesn't only lack bilingual countries but lacks much diversity in language overall. You don't know anything about this. Don't pretend that you do.

Bilingualims doesn't divide poeple & it doesn't weaken a state either.Many nations in Europe,all over the world & in canada have proven that your country can be multi-lingual & united.What divides people isn't bi-lingualims or multi-culturalism,it's D lack of respect & embracement 4 differenes, which is very common with whites from Northern Europe, they have very little tolerance for differences & think by white washing evryone they can have more stabe world. Indonesian as a new language helped united Indonesia. You think India would be a functioning society today with their 300 different languages. You really pwned me. Not. English is the linga franca of India. Hindi is simply the majority language of India. The de facto languages of different regions in India vary greatly. But they are NOT bilingual. There are over 1000 different languages/dialects in India actually. It's the most diverse country in the world. India has very little religious conflict. Stop believing in propaganda.

NO Your a joke, you keep bringing thingup t suityour needs, plus you acuse me & my group of demaning other to be just like us, well White people doing this to other with thier english only-laws, or thier baning of languages & you have no problem with that. There is no huge load of immigraton frm Russia to Alaska. And long term British & US citizens in Sweden don't speak swedish very well, & in your schools you do Study in Egnlish & Swedish, even at the grae school level! So Stop being a lair!

ENGLISH IS THE DEFACTO LANGUAGE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Get it through you head! They are not banning other languages!!! But they have one defacto language. The one they've always had!!! There is Russian immigration to Alaska. Longterm British and American residents usually speak Swedish very well. Our schools are only in Swedish. You have never been outside of Venezuela. I can tell. Your ignorance of the surrounding world is astounding.
