I loved this show and there was no curse on the cast. They were real people who lived and died like every person on this earth will do at some point. Many of them died before age 60, however, when you consider medicine is different now than it was then; death before 60 is not as odd.
These actors are from the old Short Films "Our Gang" from 1934 to 1944, "The Little Rascals" that we grew up with in 1994 was based on that older film. And the majority of the characters are still alive ( Alfalfa's character that we know real name is Bug Hall, he's still active)
Sheesh, I felt so bad reading about the plight of those cute little kids that I loved to watch as i grew up. At least they left a small, positive legacy in their time.
This is a funny "curse." Out of the 30 or so cast members, it only seems to have affected the few you mentioned. Others lived much longer: Ernest Fredric "Ernie" Morrison age 79, Richard "Mickey" Daniels, Jr. 66, Allen "Farina" Hoskins 60, Eugenie “Pineapple” Jackson 80, Jackie Cooper 88, Matthew “Stymie” Beard 56, Eugene “Porky” Lee 71, Darwood “Waldo” Kaye 72. Several are still alive, including Dickie Moore 86, Marianne Edward 80, and Jackie Lynn Taylor 85. People die...get over it.
@ADAMSIXTIES No he didn't! He lived to a ripe old age, and died of a heart attack in 1993. Look it up on Wikipedia before you recite stupid things like that.
I beleave Pete was killed by the stage hand whos dog they did not pick to be in the show. That was the rummer for years becuase he quit after he was questioned about it.
So many of the comments here contain incorrect information. The 1994 movie "The Little Rascals" was an attempt to recapture the magic of the original "Our Gang" series of movie shorts Hal Roach created in 1922. In 1929 the series went from silent to sound. In 1938 Roach sold the Our Gang concept to MGM which continued the series until 1944. As MGM thus owned the "Our Gang" name when the Roach shorts were sold to TV in the '50s, the Roach shorts were then retitled "The Little Rascals."
@horarwgt you answered all my questions, which were the reason i strayed to this depressing video. (i wish i hadnt wandered to here). but anyway, now my confusion has been put to rest. i thought "our gang" kids were just a different ensemble of actors from "the little rascals". the more popular ones (alfalfa, spanky, darla, etc) just came LATER than jackie cooper, chubby, farina, etc.
After Pete the pup was poisoned in 1930, he was replaced on film by one of his sons who had the circle on the opposite eye. The second Pete died of old age in 1946.

How did Mickey Daniels die? Liver disease at age 55. Spanky made a last TV appearance during the 80s on Cheers. Butch once appeared on Conan O'Brien and talked about life after Our Gang.
Little error in your video. Tommy Bond who played the dual roles of Tommy and Butch died September 24, 2005. Since this video wasn't uploaded until 2008, you should have known that.

Just so you know, Kendall McCormas (Breezy) didn't committ suicide stemming from being a Little Rascal. He got out of showbiz back in the 40's and went on to become a talented electrical engineer working for the department of defense. He was being forced into madatory retirement at the age of 65 and did not want to face life without doing what he liked best and that was engineering. So he took his own life.

Well actually Spanky died of heart failure at age 58. Butch died not too long ago of natural causes as well. One of the oldest kids (the truant officer) was killed by a vagrant that he let live on his property while trying to help the guy out not long ago. One of the other kids was killed in his older years by a car that went out of control and jumped the curb. I think for the time and the industry they were from (actors) their deaths were probably about average. ............
@actresstobe1408 Yes, there was the original film series (which this video is referring to) that ran from 1922 to 1944, and there was a remake in 1994.

not being any bad, not even wishing bad things to come up about, but i sincerely expected, by the end, something like: butch still lives in california
Spanky went on to work in various marketing jobs, finding success with the Ford/Philco company and products. He died back in the early to mid 90s at about 64 or 65 years old
It should have been mentioned that my favorite, cute little Wheezer, was a WWII Hero (any one who fought was a hero in my book) and died in a military training mission. That makes him a hero. Anyone disagree?
Now Micky Gubitosi is still very much alive. You may know him better as Robert Blake the biggest star to come out of the little rascals, next to Jackie Cooper.
We all know what happened to Robert Blake at 1:57 but what amazes me is that Alfalfa (Scotty Becket) died two days after getting his ass kicked and shot in Hollywood over a nasty, stank ass hunting dog.
@ekocentric alfalfa was CARL SWITZER not scotty becket and the kid that was there the day alfalfa was killed testified in 2001 that the murder was avoidable and senseless and that HIS STEP FATHER didnt have to kill(alfalfa)
@regvision Thank you. You're right about Carl Switzer. I don't know what made me write the Scotty name. But I will admit that the murder was senseless.
Switzers murder was inevitable. I think that it could have been avoided but too but Alfie's killer didn't leave people with the need to send him a valentine.
P.S. Stitz had another talent..he beat and terrorized his step children
yal will proly think im playn bt seriously my dad saw butch in wal mart and said i hated your character in a playful manner bt butch did wat u woud expekt him to do ... get an attitude nd act like a tuff guy
@homemoviescolorado I'm glad to hear that someone lived longer than 40 years....we could say that Mickey (Robert Blake) lived a long time but....did he really?
On the positive side, Tommy Bond went on to play Jimmy Olsen on the Superman Seriels, Jackie Cooper Went on to play Perry White in the Superman movies, and directed MASH, and Mickey became detective on the 70's show Beretta.
I read in a book awhile back that was talking about the original rascals/our gang members that Alfalfa died from a knife stabbing fiight over money aat age 22.And from what I understand the studios pretty much put a big grip around them and their benefits or moneys any of them may have made and it made it very hard for them to make any money or get jobs anywhere else after the started getting older so for most part once they hit 10 they where too old & was gave the boot. SAD
@redwing46901 Hmmm,... it's pretty well known that Alfalfa was shot during a drug deal gone wrong. There was an Alfalfa website supported by his family that had that story too. I remember when it happened, I am old enough (Augggh). But from what I read on the family site, Alfalfa - Carl was a good guy and loads of fun. But he got desperate in 1059 and got mixed up with drugs. I just found a site that says it was over a lost hunting dog. He was doing hunt guiding. Looks like we need Foren
The deal is, they lived in a different time, and their "film celebrity" back then didn't insulate them like stars enjoy these days. They lived an utterly real life, and real life back then was harder for everyone. We're frankly spoiled to death these days with better medicine and safer transportation.
And a lot of detail is omitted here to portray the image of "curse". For starters, many of them spoke of having a happy life and joyful memories.
@TheJediCharles oh thanks!!..I`m glad to hear "spanky" at least didn`t have a short and relatively sad life away from films..
So ,they say there`s supposed to be a "curse" within these characters??I didn`t know anything about that..biut then i`m in the uk ,and we don`t hear quite so much celeb "gossip" as such...at ;least not with the older stars....(my middle daughter is really into all the older "stars" ,as they really were back then....and i`m sure ,not being so accessible made them more
@TheJediCharles fascinating somehow...you know? Not knowing their every move ,whim ,likes & dislikes ,yes ,it definately was a different time ,and in lots of ways better for the fans...
It is of historical interest, but I don't subscribe to "the pattern" depicted here. Look at other actors of that same time. Just two names in a hat, look at what happened to Charley Chase and Thelma Todd. They weren't little rascals or child actors, but they were making movies for Hal Roach at the same time and studio and died in manners that would look "cursed".
The issue is we humans are wired to see patterns, even if they aren't really there, it's perception.
@TheJediCharles i agree. i'm in leonard maltin's class at usc and he shows us a lot of hal roach comedy stuff from the '30s both our gang and charley chase. it doesn't seem that out of ordinary for actors at that time to die under accidents, murder, overdose, alcoholism or other controversial circumstances. charley chase, thelma todd, and charley's brother james parrott all died young. hal roach's own wife and son also died young. so did will rogers, jean harlow, and rudolph valentino
Very interesting, although Stymie's last name is Beard. Many of the Gang are still living, although many of them died young, or sort of young. My mom used to go to church with "Farina". She called him "Allen" and I was amazed and star struck about this when I was little. My brush with Little Rascals greatness! Also, Darla sang the "Ask Any Mermaid You Happen To See.....Chicken Of The Sea" commercial. So much talent therew among those kids...and so much tragedy.
Some of these stats are wrong and the written narrative messed up in parts. Chubby died at age 19, not 22. The line on Froggy and Mickey Daniels are convoluted and incomplete. Was the writer on the same drugs the rascals were on? This thing ends not telling us where Spanky is now, though some of us know the story. Which Pete the pup was poisoned?

On the positive side, Tommy Bond went on to play Jimmy Olsen on the Superman Seriels, Jackie Cooper Went on to play Perry White in the Superman movies, and directed MASH, and Mickey became detective on the 70's show Beretta.

THUMBS UP THIS COMMENT IF YOU THINK BILL COSBY IS RETARDED FOR CLAIMING THE MOVIE AND MAKING A BIG DEAL OUT OF WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS "RACISM"
SuspectIGraff2o3 11 months ago
@SuspectIGraff2o3 frrom Richard Pryor about bill cosby: " Tell bill to have a coke and a smile, and shut the fuck up" !
MrSluggo666 10 months ago
@SuspectIGraff2o3 That's an urban myth. Bill Cosby does not, nor has he ever, owned the rights to either the series or the movie.

Scotty Beckett died of a drug overdose, probably a suicide. Very sad, self-destructive life.
Mickey Daniels died of cirrhosis of the liver at 55. He was working as a taxi driver.

Some more corrections..
Alfalfa died when he was 32, not 31 because of reward money for a dog.
Spanky died of a heart httack in '93, the same year he appeared in a Cheers episode that was titled ""Woody Gets An Election"
Butch died in 2005 from heart disease

kandiimeli97 11 months ago
I read in a book awhile back that was talking about the original rascals/our gang members that Alfalfa died from a knife stabbing fiight over money aat age 22.And from what I understand the studios pretty much put a big grip around them and their benefits or moneys any of them may have made and it made it very hard for them to make any money or get jobs anywhere else after the started getting older so for most part once they hit 10 they where too old & was gave the boot. SAD
redwing46901 11 months ago
@redwing46901 Hmmm,... it's pretty well known that Alfalfa was shot during a drug deal gone wrong. There was an Alfalfa website supported by his family that had that story too. I remember when it happened, I am old enough (Augggh). But from what I read on the family site, Alfalfa - Carl was a good guy and loads of fun. But he got desperate in 1059 and got mixed up with drugs. I just found a site that says it was over a lost hunting dog. He was doing hunt guiding. Looks like we need Foren

Curse?
I don't know about a "curse."
For starters, many of them spoke of having a happy life and joyful memories.

ahh .so sad....does anyone know what happened to little "spanky"??I think my film ran out before it gave an answer...
mumof3girls09 1 year ago
@mumof3girls09
Spanky lived a long, relatively happy life making occasional appearances here and there. He was even had a cameo appearance on an episode of Cheers.
You didn't see an answer here because not all the Rascals fit into this person's vision of "a curse" he's trying to sell.
TheJediCharles 1 year ago
@TheJediCharles oh thanks!!..I`m glad to hear "spanky" at least didn`t have a short and relatively sad life away from films..
So ,they say there`s supposed to be a "curse" within these characters??I didn`t know anything about that..biut then i`m in the uk ,and we don`t hear quite so much celeb "gossip" as such...at ;least not with the older stars....(my middle daughter is really into all the older "stars" ,as they really were back then....and i`m sure ,not being so accessible made them more
mumof3girls09 1 year ago
@TheJediCharles fascinating somehow...you know? Not knowing their every move ,whim ,likes & dislikes ,yes ,it definately was a different time ,and in lots of ways better for the fans...
Thanks again 4 your info!!
mumof3girls09 1 year ago
@mumof3girls09
Thank you too.
TheJediCharles 1 year ago

Which Pete the pup was poisoned?
jeremysteele07 1 year ago 9
@jeremysteele07
The writer would rebut, hence the rudeness of the enquirer there is no need. Offense can not be taken, considering the source.
Good day.
