continued.. as well as your drinking/eating container - a waste of valuable space IMO. Also if you eat and drink out of your cooking container it keeps things warm for longer! Still, a fancy looking piece of kit!
@Smith28Adventure I see what you are saying about using the same pot to save weight/space. Personally I used to use the crusadeer as a cooking unit and eating/drinking pot however it got a little depressing as eventually everything started to taste of chicken pot noodle. Did not mix well with coffee/tea/hot chocolate etc.
Good test mate. I like the crusader system but as you said, it IS bulky. I've come to a system that suits me, MytiMug from Alpkit for boiling, cooking, drinking and eating. Mug fits perfectly around a Klean Kanteen, or Guyot Design bottle so is very space effiecient too. And I use the fold away esbit pocket stove which is tiny when it's packed away, and it holds 6 large fuel tabs which I usually help along with small sticks. Never got along with the idea of having a seperate container to boil in
@Smith28Adventure Thats a nice system undoubtably. I found that the fold away esbit isnt that good without a wind shield whereas this one is self contained. Also do you find that the folding esbit stove always seems to leave the ground scorched?
@Alloutdoor1 Dude yeah it does! I found that making a layer of finger sized sticks as a base underneath the fuel tabs, inside the stove worked well to reduce scarring on the ground though. Good point about the overwhelming taste of pot noodle, I must say I have experienced that! :)
Nice, I am curious.. Is the Esbit top heavy? It looks like you could more easily bump it over when its full... The BCB looked a little more sturdy and the extra weight would also help in keeping it from tipping over.
@Skragg101 Hi skragg. To be honest, I think stability wise they are about the same. If you notice, with the Crusader stove, the pot is actually sitting on two bits of thin metal that folds over the fuel. Not that stable either. I have never had either be knocked over other than by my big clumsy feet.

It really is a great little, light unit. Very good review. The BCB is still a favorite too.

Intesresting shootout. What weight fuel tablets are you are using and how much fuel per 200ml boil?
TheBeebopper 4 months ago
@TheBeebopper Outdoors it takes 2 to 3, four gram tablets ie 8-12 grams total to boil 200ml.

@intenseangler Thanks mate! Its so light compared to my BCB. It seems to be pretty sturdy too so should last a while.
