@TheBoilerman1 musical masturbation my ass. he's playing a piece by a composer who I'll give you the freedom of finding out. check out shawn lane? check out Gustav Mahler.
I am not easily impressed anymore, but this guy is mindblowing. He seemed to have tamed most technical issues on guitar and he's a brilliant keyboardist and pianist too. Is it the food you eat, man?
Honestly moaning about speed and how many notes you can play a second is rediculous. I could argue "So how many notes can you get to sustain more than ten seconds in one solo" or "Why do you play 4 notes patterns then 5 note patterns why can't you just play what you feel?"
honestly people play what they like people play as fast or as slow as they want too. music is about expressing oneself and letting others know how you feel and to make them feel emotive.
I'm honestly sorry that I ever disrespected Marshall, I was having a bad day in hindsight, I was making myself feel better capping on someone else I don't even know, which isn't typical of me. He is very fast and accurate and seems like a nice guy. Peace

Geese i was expecting something good. Not another shredder. Oh my gosh, i cant stand this stuff anymore!!!!!! Im going back to watch some Marco Sfogli.
I play electric as much as classical. but my classical guitar teacher always recommends to have the left hand parallel to the bridge. Judging on this shredmaster, it wouldnt apply to electric. Or would it?
in electric (shredding)in order to get your picking in excelent condition you have to be able to pull of hammer on just as well as picking...in other words you have to get your legato down in order to pickextra fast:perfect balance between exrtreme tension and extreme relaxation!
Compared to a lot of electric players, his hand actually stays more parallel to the bridge.
Jimmy Page for example doesn't keep his hand very parallel and actually drapes his thumb over the top of the next fairly often, as do a lot of electric players.
It matters because as long as your hand position isn't hampering your technique there is no wrong way to do anything. Certain things are more comfortable to play with your thumb further back or even around the neck than with your thumb on the middle, but certain other things (usually fast things, or large stretches or 'strange' chords) are much easier with your thumb in a more classical positioning.
God Marshall is sick! I took a few lessons from him and it was fun to see him say over and over "This ones tough" (referring to a guitar lick) and then he would burn through it at an ungodly speed with precise accuracy. Good times!
in Vic theres a guitarist whos studying Harrison's techniques, and hes getting pretty scary he should post some videos but the guy is so modest he claims he isnt very good but yeah right,
I agree - He's fast, but his runs just don't do it for me. Nowadays, a lot of guys are fast, but you still have to sound GOOD, musically. Also, his sound/technique is noisy & his tone really lacks, to my taste. Check out Derryl Gabel, for truly TASTY sounds.
I've been a fan of Marshall's for a long time. He's also an amazing pianist and drummer. 0:54 to 1:04 in this clip is absolutely SICK! Oh, and Walter Giardino being better than Marshall? Uh, NO. Walter is your typical, run-of-the-mill Neoclassical guitarist. What he does has been done a million times before. He can't TOUCH Marshall Harrison.
dude you are smoking some serious crack. I checked out Walter Giardino and that guy is a Malmsteen crappy copy. Marshal fricken smokes that guy easily.
Probably not as good as the crack you are smoking. Walter is not a "crappy copy" of Malmsteen. At least if you are going to make a criticism of this kind make some efford and do some research. You ovbiously don't have a clue what you are talking about. You may like or dislike him but it looks like the crack is affected your ears.
I'm a health teacher, so I tend to stay away from drugs umkay. And saying that I don't know what I'm talking about is quite funny my friend. I've only been playing for 24 years. How long have you been playing? Get the wax out of your ears and go listen to someone with talent for crying out loud
I don't claim to know more than you nor play better as I probably don't! It seems you are a couple of generations ahead of me. I was just astounded by the lack of respect to someone who has chosen the same path & plays the guitar as you. The comments you made saying that he was a "crap copy" was just not constructive. He IS a great player. You may not like his style that's all.
He's not a copy? Plays a strat with a scalloped neck, similar tone, same neoclassical runs, excessive wrist jewelery... That doesn't mean you can't enjoy his music, but let's be serious. :)
@Perivei Walter's solos tend to be more musical because he's a member of a real band: He gets musical direction from material & arrangements which have higher motives than being a mere lead-guitar showcase. But skill & knowledge: Marshall.

ultimately the motion should come from your wrist sort of like bending and vibrato and not from the fingers...
cyberflea07 3 years ago
for classical guita depends of the tone you want to get, hand angled towards the neck produces a warmer tone
