@deadmandirector3 iListen is no longer available. It was replaced by MacSpeech Dictate about 3 years ago. Nuance (maker's of Dragon NaturallySpeaking for PC) bought the MacSpeech company almost 2 years ago. The product is now called Dragon Dictate for Macintosh and is available in most Apple stores.
iListen is commercial software, available at Apple stores and many resellers nationwide. We announced a replacement for iListen, MacSpeech Dictate, at Macworld Expo in January. It will be available soon.
I must admit, iListen is a good help. I'm starting to get the hang of the software. It takes a lot of time to train your voice, but once you get right, it works like a dream.
I am not sure what you mean by a "regular microphone headset." Anything on our list of certified microphones will work fine. If it is not on our list, we cannot guarantee it will work.
why isn't my Listen working this well? I'm using my built in mic, and it's getting like 1/6 words correct. I've done like 4 stories to train it. Any help?
The built-in microhphone is not suitable for speech recognition. You need to use a MacSpeech-certified microphone to get the best results. See the MacSpeech support web site for more information.
Speech recognition cannot replace court reporters because even a very high accuracy rate - say 1 word wrong in 500 - could dramatically change the meaning of a sentence.
Where can I download iListen?
