And it's not like it mattered to them if little Hannibal died; they were only keeping him around so they could slaughter & eat him, too. I have wondered about that too. The only reason I can think they would have for keeping him alive was for if the Russian soldiers came along, like they mentioned earlier. But still, it really doesn't make sense. Oh well. Maybe it was just added in the movie for dramatic affect. It could have been a lie! Who knows, I haven't read the book so I am not aware if it's in the book or not.

I think it was a trick to mess with his mind.

The only reason he liked the other chick is because Clarice wasn't born yet. Also, his aunt is cultured, beautiful, sophisticated, mysterious, & teaches him kendo. She loves him & takes care of him & he learns from her how to make womens' "fur crackle," as the one lady told Clarice. Hint for guys: Respect the lady & don't waste any time on a lady who isn't fabulous to you.

Weird, because he almost did for Clarice what was done for him.

HAHAHA!!! You mean with Hannibal and his aunt? Technically speaking it's not incest because she's not a blood relative, and her husband (Hannibal's uncle) is dead; but I'm not a lawyer so I could be wrong. 

I was really irritated at the DVD extras because the director or ??? said Hannibal was insane for turning down Lady Murasaki's offer to sleep with him. I figure he was concentrating right then on avenging Mischa, but it could be it just felt too weird to take his aunt to bed. Incest-y.

LOVED the film! I'd had no idea that Hannibal was very attractive as a young man. That explained a lot.

I'm not much for blood/gore (can't watch that stuff -- yuck! nasty!) but this movie has so much more to offer than that. It showed where he got his quick reflexes, how he got to be so good w/a knife & where his respect for women came from. In one of the books Hannibal told a victim that he (Hannibal) was going to eat his wife. I've wondered if he meant to carry out that threat... nahhhh.
