Nice work man! Helped a lot with me cuz i just wanted to test Ubuntu before installing it to my new PC. You got one more subber, liker, and favoriter.
Hey guys i really need help. I have a dual boot with windows and ubuntu(Ubuntu is the .iso and Windows was my stable OS.) Ok, I want to use Virtualbox to open windows from ubuntu (I would like to open my MAIN Windows OS, with all my programmes which i have already installed.) I hope that this is possible. If it is PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!
oh man thank you so much!! Took me a 2 whole days to figure it out myself, ran into some problems and then I try to follow your video step by step. Great Video!
@LucasJayLikesgaming it is saying that because virtualbox is running ubuntu and ubuntu cannot find the iso file so in virtual box go to devices and cd/dvd and where it says find/locate file click it and then go to your iso file. restart the virtual machine and it should work i had the same problem
@midfingr no it is nothing wrong witth your vid ubuntu takes a long time to download but it is an operating system i am not surprised your vid is great
So I realize that I am using different versions of both virtual box and Ubuntu at this point but I thought maybe you could still help me. Everything goes fine until the 3:05 mark. CD\DVD-ROM is not showing up. How do I mount Ubuntu?
Yes, it's a little strange. When you start the machine, after filling in the disk space, memory, it will ask you where the disc or image is located. So basically, start the VM to get access to the CD\DVD-ROM -- I hope this helps.
Thank you so much for showing me to do this! I love Ubuntu and I don't want to get rid of Windows or do partitions on my Windows system. Thank so much again! :)
Thanks =) Is there a chance this could mess up my windows 7 bit though? i dont acutally have a backup of it..i have nothing to back up on but will get a hard drive soon
i've tried to install latest ubuntu 10.04 from windows enviroment, and it all goes well untill it restarts and after finishing ubuntu install it says : ALERT dev/sda5 does not exist. i go into ubuntu desktop and it just turn off my computer after a while.
i have also tried to install 9.10 version and 8.10 version and i just can't get it to work.
@me44888 I find that giving the guest (Ubuntu) a lower memory allocation, the host system seems fine; say around 512 MB, maybe less, depending on your system's memory. I also give it one core to work with.
@GentleBoy17 im new to this what if you want to unistall it do you just remove virtual box and windows it back the way it was or do you have to unistall ubuntu first
no need to remove virtual box. Open virtual box and delete ubuntu or whatever u named it. Then press FIle -> Virtual Media Manager and delete the Virtual Media u made for ubuntu.
@Kevinsilhouette Of course it is. Linux doesn't require a really great processor. I would recommend installing Ubuntu on your pc or somewhere else and boot it that way rather than using virtual box. That way it will work faster. But if you need bot Win and Ubuntu then use Virtual Box :))
To be honest, I can't remember how much space it uses in Ubuntu. If you can, maybe look into VMware Player (?). Virtualbox for Linux is a little dated.
Yes, sorry about that. The newer versions of Virtualbox are different from the one I used. From what I remember, you choose the CD/DVD option when you first power on the virtual machine; I guess to make it easier.
I hope this helps and please feel free to ask any questions.
I have Windows 7 Pro x64 so would downloading the 64bit version of Ubuntu 9.10 be better off than the 32bit. I'll only be giving it something like 1024MB RAM though.
I would choose the 32-bit version of Ubuntu. For one, 1024MB would be easier to work with and some things such as Adobe Flash are a pain to install in the x64 version; not impossible, but not worth the hassle in a virtual machine.
Yeah, VirtualBox has changed quite a bit since I posted this video. Now at version 3.x. If possible, could you specify where you're having trouble? I will try to help out.
hi man that worked with me but i have problems in full screen mode when i press right ctrl + f (host+f) it turns to fullscreen but the window is still in samesize
Once i get to the "Try Ubuntu without any changes to your computer" screen, it freezes up and i cannot get passed it. I have tried again and again, i have pressed enter with the Host key toggled and untoggled. Someone please help.
Did you unzip the file. When I choose the iso from my desktop and start the virtualizatio, It says "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted." This was done unzipped. Help!
Can anyone help me get 2 VMs running at the same time??? It keeps crashing!!!
I've already done everything i can think of (even things that didn't make sense). I've been working primarily in the General > Advanced tab in attempts to get it to work and NOTHING!?!?!?!
One thing people might run into probs with is that after the install/restart your Ubuntu might go back into run the live cd w/out changes to pc screen. You need to go back into the CD/DVD-ROM Details Tab where you chose the ISO image and you need to UNMOUNT the ISO or it will try and boot from that. Once you unmount it it should run straight into the Ubuntu install and vwallah!
Thanks for the audio with video. Nice change after watching a bunch of crappy videos on installing ubuntu on virtualbox without any voice where you have to guess from the screen what they are doing .
