  • What a voice! No one ever can sound like the Man In Black!

  • nice....

  • Brilliant performance from Mr Cash! Great song. I've posted my version, tribute to the composer Steve Goodman: ken170647

  • I never sawthis video before..very cool performance!

  • Johnny is a Scotsman. So am I.

  • Johnny Cash was the best, simply the the best

  • Johnny with that rusty beautiful American voice--sweet

  • Wann wird's mal wieder richtig Sommer

  • toller Song - Johnny war der beste Country-Sänger!

  • HELLO FROM MONTYMARTRE

WHEN HE WENT FOR A SHOW TO THE ELYSEE MONTMARTRE WITH IS SON AND HIS WIFE JUNE I WAS THERE BELEVE ME IT WAS GREAT...

  • great video

  • Rekkamies!

  • @dumbyeah Huomenta suomi!

  • i love it when his voice goes deep at 2:33 , what a singer, what a legend!

  • the 7 people that disliked i love to punch you rite in the face!

  • I love Cash, but the tempo could go down.

  • Wonderful! BUT luckily both Johnny and Steve Goodman who wrote the tune were wrong on this one, because the "CoNO" is still rolling every day from Chicago down to the sea and back. Leave the car home, and for christ's sake, stay away from the planes, and ride the train to the Gulf, you still can, and it's a ride worth every mile, every second, every penny, every note. (For the record, I'm not on Amtrak's pay roll, I'm just an incurable romantic...)

  • @mateuszmattias - True, but of course Goodman was right when he wrote the song. When Amtrak took over passenger rail service around 1968, they de-commissioned the names of all the proud trains from all the major rail lines - until they figured out that the names brought in business and they resurrected not only the CONY label but also others like the Empire Builder, the Sunset Limited, and many more.

  • @CompVid101 - Yeah, you're right, good thing a few came back though. One train that I would really like to see returned is the Pan American, extendet to/from either Cleveland and/or Detroit. Not at all likely I know, but Cincinnati - Nashville - Birmingham - Montgomery - Mobile - New Orleans, that would be a nice ride...

  • @mateuszmattias I'd love to do that one day....it's a long way from Bristol, England.

  • @mateuszmattias - Right you ARE! Both my husband & I love trains and are glad the prediction that trains would "disappear" by now have proven incorrect. TO ALL READING THIS . . . for less hassle, more freedom of movement, a chance to actually see the scenery & socially engage with fellow passengers - RIDE THE RAILS instead of the pavement or the skies! matues is right - the experience is worth it all.

  • JOHNNY CASH IS MY HERO!!!!

  • Man, I've never seen Johnny mail one in before. I can't imagine what went wrong. The Finns deserved better.

  • a great guitar player and singer, one of Americas greats,

  • 7 people couldnt get a ride on the City of New Orleans

  • He and I share the same birthday, February 26 - I wear black every year in his honor. RIP you amazing talent!

  • 7 people disliked this video?? If they don't like it, don't watch it, simple! Johnny Cash is amazing.. I have too much respect for him it's unreal. Rest In Peace, the man in black!!

  • Arlo Guthrie sings it better.

  • I don't know why but everytime I listen to his songs I start to cry. He layed so much heart in his performances. It's so sad he is gone.

  • i love john but arlo guthrie no one sings it like him,reg australia

  • That was awsome

  • the GREATEST tribute to Steve Goodman known he had the heart to sing it right and not change the words

  • hahah he was really young.. is that his compositon or willie? :o sry i'm not sure .. both are awesome ^^ RIP

  • who rot that song

  • Pathetic performance. If he wasn't Johnny Cash he would have been booed from the stage. Truly he has seen better days before this performance...very sad

  • @alderete74 You need help and i feel sorry for you. JOHNNY CASH IS THE BEST!!!! I will pray for you. and dont bother commenting back, because I am blocking you.

  • @alderete74 vos sos patético alderete !!! parecés pechofrio!!!!

  • @alderete74 To me, this is greatness in its purest form. You can say what you want, man, I really don't care!

  • @alderete74 Pathetic performance? How about your pathetic comment, where does that lie in the scheme of things?

  • What I don't get, is that in his autobiography, he wrote about how much he loved this song, but regretted never learning to play it because he always wanted to be able to perform it. Anyone know the reason behind this?

  • This is one example of what a great guitar player Johnny was. Unfortunately, most of his performances were with a full band backing him. Rarely did we ever get to just his voice and his guitar only. This video is a real treat.

  • gave me chills

  • Cash in Finland..man..it would have been great to see Cash live, but saddly I borned too late:D

  • yep, as a kid in the 70's it was uncool to like cash, then i discovered him in the 90's, and still miss his stuff, god bless you jc, from australia, thanks, ...

  • Excellent Version!

  • God Bless Johnny Cash and all of his fans he is a legend

  • it doesnt matter who sung the songs or who wrote the songs.. what matters is.. they shared the songs with us. Cash, Nelson, Denver, Guthrie.. may their legacy live forever. Though im not american i can feel the pain, the hope, the legacy

  • Steve Goodman actually wrote this song, not Johnny Cash. I prefer his version with the fiddle and faster tempo.

  • All the singers back then did each others song.. its hard to find out who really wrote them...even on the internet.

  • One of his best songs! GREAT! Many thanks for sharing!

  • i don't hear any drums

  • Cool!

    Thats all.

The real natives maybe forgive me.

  • Hey, is that Ringo on drums?

  • Johnny Cach wos my herous 20 years egou

  • ty 4 sharing this with us all

  • Goodman offered the song to Cash and he turned it down. He later said he made a big mistake. The version by Sammi Smith is the best I ever heard.

    Lindy

  • I AM SORRY. Of cause it's a Steve Goodman song, I don't know what I was thinking. Can I put it down to the late hour? Thanks for putting meright.

  • It was written by Steve Goodman and I heard him sing it live at a Bluegrass festival in Virginia before John Denver, Arlo and the rest of them covered it. I guess being old has some benefits.

  • Yeah..It's Arlos

  • Sorry Sidesho6 it is Guthrie's

  • check your facts mate.

  • Tony, Tony, whatsamatta you? Everybody knows it was written by Steve Goodman, mostly late at night aboard the train traveling to his wife's grandmother's house. He brought it back to show friends at the Earl Of Old Town, and got suggestions for the second verse.

He played it for Arlo, at the Quiet Knight, who eventually recorded it (after John Denver butchered it in his recording).

You are now the last person on the continent to find out it was written by Steve Goodman.

  • I didn't know. :-(

  • However, I DID know that "My Way" was written by Paul Anka.

  • Cash alone with his guitar was magic. He created a unique intimacy with his voice, his phrasing. The singing story-teller of America!

  • "The" singer story-teller? Surely "the" singer story teller is Dylan.

  • They both told stories. Dylan's were, and are, probably more intricate, but as for delivery, I mean as to the "singing" or "storytelling" part, I prefer Cash. But it boils down to personal taste I guess!

  • the only version better than the original

  • its not guthries, its steve goodmans.

  • Love how Willie and Johnny were such great friends!! RIP to the man in black.

  • Johnny's songs always tell a story and you can understand each word. ,,,,,Wonderful

  • thats not one of his songs... its by arlo guthrie

  • His voice is like butter.

  • R.I.P Johnny cash. Music still lives

  • music always lives on. Hell, my gran is still listening to French Medieval Court music lol

  • Johnny rocked any song he did!

  • Bob Dylan once said that Johnny was more of a spiritual figure for him. I think I know what he's talking about. God Bless Johnny Cash!

  • k dios lo bendiga y k tb lo aga el diablo

  • Dylan also said:

In plain terms, Johnny was and is the North Star; you could guide your ship by him.

  • Love that Song , Love Johny Cash

    From ~ Kuwait <3

and 'sketchmeister' .. How Lucky You are to have that wonderful Memory (=

  • Greetings from Finland! Keep on trucking..!

  • Du hast vollkommen recht!

  • Man I love American music.

  • i really miss him...what a wonderful man!

  • what if he was president?

  • Comment removed

  • Amen brother

  • He went when he needed to go. Be happy he was around as long as he was. Good on ya Johnny!

I was a baby when my parents took me to see him play in Auckland, NZ. He looked me square in the face and said 'thanks for coming little feller'. Too young to remember that obviously, but thanks Johnny!

  • @krustybiker thats a pretty lame tribute to a great man.

  • @krustybiker Johnny has this ability to bring together people of different social, political, religious, phjilosophical, and racial background into one big group -- fans of the Man in Black.

  • @BrianBinOR very true. people who don't like country/western music will typically say they like johnny cash, most of the time. at the very least know who he is and a few of his songs.

  • @krustybiker ok i was about to say.... thanks it was well put

  • @krustybiker There's a recording of him saying the Gettysburg Address. it's impressive! haha

  • Hi,

I am French, and I love the United States....for all they did for us there are 64years ago!!!

I love this song, Mister Cash is a very great singer, you are right Sinjypouet !!!

  • @141stcoI You are my favorite Frenchman.

  • @141stcoI that's really cool for you to say that, I wouldn't live anywhere else.

  • @141stcoI And we Yankees thank you for helping us win our war of independence. And the Statue of Liberty as well.

  • @141stcoI

This is a stunning song, my friend. Timeless, heartfelt, and honest. It doesn't matter where you're from, honesty affects us all equally.

  • I'm french and I didn't like american's patriotism at all, but I've changed of mind the first times I heard that song...

Johnny Cash is really a true legend. He IS America !

  • right on . all those flag waving tools with blind faith in bush dont know shit about america. this song. done son.

  • He made his mark...unforgettable.

  • Rest in Peace you wonderful artist

  • I didn't even know that he visited Finland! Well I was born way after this, but still. True legend!

  • The Man In Black rules. With a song like this, he wa always "kick ass". Sad day when he joined God's chorus.

    Unplugged at its best.

  • Sad for us. Not for God.

  • Johnny always had a strong love for the man above. He is rockin' away wherever Heaven is located

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Johnny Cash is Legend.God bless you

  • when people can't quite understand the legend of Johnny Cash, I educate them that he is the ONLY person who is in both the country music and Rock-n-Roll hall of fames.

  • I love this song so much!

  • How great he was alone, just his guitar and that voice

  • No kidding... That voice is one of a kind... Here is a true legend.

  • Love this version. Thank you.
