I live in Peapack near the western end of the Gladstone Branch. But, the trains I'm referring to are the ones from the RVL. I used to go to Raritan, back when they had good trains. But, the last time I went there, they had only one good train, an F40PH that pulled a few mixed Comets. The rest were...uhhh, I'd rather not say because I don't wish to offend others that like the newer trains.
Let me guess, PL42AC's, Comet II's, & a Comet V cabcar. That is the standard RVL consist. What I'd like to see down here is an FH-2. That may be interesting. 4142 had a short sprint down here in March of 2008. Before I started railfanning. I love F40's. Maybe 4127 or 4124 can come back. 4124 was here in March, and 4127 was here in August/September.
And Multi-Level cars, too. Plus, from what I understand, there are P40BH's, too. The standard RVL consist is extremely rare, nowadays, as it seems almost all sets are Multi-Levels with either P40BH's or PL42AC's. I wish the standard consist would return as regular sets instead of being very rare.
Thats surprising. I thought that NJT would keep the Comet II's around for a while, at least up there. Probably, they are now making up the NJCL consists, or on the Main Line locals.
I don't know. I haven't been to Raritan since the beginning of June, but someone online said that since September, all sets on the RVL are Multi-Levels now with either PL42ACs or P40BHs pushing and pulling them. However, I did see a recent video of a standard set (5 Comet IIMs & 1 Comet V) being pulled by a PL42AC. So, it's difficult to say for sure, but it seems like that's what the RVL appears to be using.
I wish NJ Transit would bring back the older trains that I grew up with. I remember back when NJT had Comet Is, Comet IBs, and Comet IIs (the original IIs, not the modified ones of today) on the RVL. I can't think of any reason good enough to replace them with the ones they have now. If they have increased traffic, they should keep the older sets and make them longer or something, not take them away and replace them with the newer ones. No offense to those that like the newer trains.
I know. I was too young to even remember NJT Comet I's. I wasn't inerested in real railroading until YT came into my life. NJT needs those cars though, they'll still exist somewhere.
I saw a video of a fleet of Comet Is in California somewhere...may have been in Los Angeles or San Diego, not sure. You should have seen the original Comet IIs before they got modified. I believe a few online rail fans have a few videos of them. Or, have you seen them? The standard RVL back then had 5 Comet IIs and 1 Comet IB, similar to the 5 Comet IIMs and 1 Comet V set today. And, you're right. NJ Transit does need those cars.
No, I have not, just a IIM, a III (which is rare for this line now, but may be here friday... Maybe) and IV's, always Geeps though, maybe, except for 1 train that had the extremely rare, Comet V! I hope they return. NJT will always need Comets, no matter how advanced they are.
Well, the original Comet IIs look almost like IIMs, except that the black band was thinner and like that of a Comet III (minus the middle door). GP40s (or Geeps as they are known as) are so cool, but F40s are also cool. As for the Comets, no offense, but I don't care for the advanced cars they have as I prefer the older Comets. But then, as I said, I grew up with the older ones and I miss them a lot.
Nope, only the IIM's then. Only GP40PH-2B's. I just checked the NJT website, and, maybe, we'll have CIII's again! "Additional Train Service for NJEA Convention" "NJ TRANSIT will also add capacity to existing ACRL trains to accomidate ridership during the convention," Transit is also doing 3 extra trains. Maybe, that is why your CII's are off your trains.
What if we can get enough people to complain about the newer trains and have them consider building more of the older trains? I can't be the only one who misses the older trains. Obviously, NJ Transit won't do it for one fan or even a few fans, but if we get enough of us (maybe hundreds or thousands) to complain, NJT has to at least consider the option of rebuilding the original trains.
Maybe, good theory, but I doubt it'll work unless, practically, every railfan in NJ decides to do it, and I know some of us aren't NJT fans. Well, at least we've still got IIM's.
Sorry, I forgot about the 1st part. Metrolink has leased NJT Comet I's, and UTA Comets. They are currently rehabilitating the NJT Cars, and the UTA cars are already in service. Metrolink is based out of LA.
Great video.:) I really love 4405's horn. It almost sounds like a Comet IV, which is really cool.:)

Very good. I have got to visit Egg Harbor City sometime and see these trains in person. They're better than the trains we get here.

Where is "here?" The trains at EHC are pretty much all like this, GP40PH-2A/B's & Comet IV's, with the occasional P40BH thrown in. Thanks!

Well, that isn't too good. NJT probably has good reasons though. Like an increase in traffic or something.
