  • @simionTheOne i seem to recall it might have featured on the Japanese Whispers E.P. released around 1982/1983. Also on the same vinyl is "The Upstairs Room" and "The Dream". The producer Steve Nye who also produced Blue Monday by New Order apparently worked on this (there are simalarities). I think RS wrote & recorded this mostly on his own after the demise of the band (temporarily) following the Pornography Tour. I have this on vinyl at home if you want any more info

  • what did rob say "this is the gospel of the set"?

  • @lostandwounded "this is the goth bit of the set"

  • @Oloferne8181

    he could pronunce better

  • The original version of "Lament" had different lyrics and came as a flexi-disc given away with the magazine Flexipop. Then a re-recorded version featured on the 12" version of "The walk", which was the version that was included on the 1983 compilation "Japanese whispers".

  • it is from the 1983 album japanese wispers song # 7

  • Interesting to hear Robert remark that this is the "Goth" bit of the set! Lovely version of 'Lament'. I have never heard a live version of this song before. I just added this to my list of favourites.

  • i was there as a fivteen years old boy. was my first cure concert and the first one in former gdr. can't describe how amazing it was.

this song is from the "japanese whispers" album. one of my all time favorites. get it...enjoy it!!!

  • bought the walk record

& got a grey vinnyl of 'Faith' or how do u call that kind of stuff

man.. all i can say is that the dark trilogy is the best thing out there, go get it if you haven't got yourself into it already

  • @onkelbolle2002

i was there too, as a fivteen years old girl... ;))

    it was a doozie...

  • b-side of primary

  • tbh this song is much better than primary if you ask me :I

& i'm talking about the official songs

when they played primary in orange it sounded at it's best but the official doesn't sound as strong as lament to me

  • Not of "Primary". It's from period of "Let's go to bed", "The lovecats" and "The walk".

  • @Oloferne8181

noooo! it was put in "japanese whispers", in 1983! Primary was published in 1981 and its b-side was "descent".

    Peace :)

  • @luigibiffi87 yes you are right.

  • brilliant, the cure at their best!

  • lament 1990 beautiful version

london 1990 cristal palace is marvellous too...

the cure play lament live in 1983 (club and festival), 1990 (festival pleasure trips)

  • wow I didn't actually know they ever played it live

great although I prefer their sound and performances from 1979-1982 (especially 1980-1982) the most

  • did he say "this is the goth bit of the set"?

i thought he hated that word

  • he said it to be ironic..

  • Saw them do this at Glastonbury

  • This is one of the most dreamy romantic songs that The Cure produced, and that's saying a lot.

  • searched a lot of time for a live version of this great song!!! thanks for posting it!!!

  • I would name "The Walk" EP to their best recorded piece ever! My old vinyl is still playing at home at times, and everytime it strikes me what a masterpiece it is! 26 years later...

  • The Cure's B-sides from the mid to late 80's are better than most of the stuff they've released in the last few years.

  • The original line up....... nice track, thanks for posting.

    Dib.

  • original lineup in 1990?

  • thos would sound better if it was LAURENCE TOLHURST ANDY ANDERSON PORL THOMPSON

  • why? It was recorded by Robert and Lol and a frigging drum machine/

  • drumm machine well doesnt sound like it most performances r not the same speed of drumm beats soo lol too bad for u

  • Try that again in English.

The original was recorded by Robert and Lol and some machines so why would your proposed inclusion of Tolhurst and Anderson have made this live 1990 version any better?

  • Anyone knows when was the last time in which The Cure played Lament in a concert?

  • august 8th 1990 london

  • Lamenting not seeing this live

  • Any videoclip of THE LAMENT live?

    I wish I could watch it !!!

  • Only Boris could play this song with the right soul for the song. Cure used to play this one with Andy, but to be true, the drums werent' right.

Boris is the best drummer in Cure history.

  • I can't say more than the comment of afoolisharrangement...

  • One more ice cream river body

    Flowed underneath the bridge

    Underneath the bridge....

So rare for them to play this live...thanks so much for posting, one of my all time fav Cure songs...

  • TSSsssssssssss qe rola tan chingona y luego en vivo no mamesSSSS QE viajee !!

  • Lament! Very rare song live....

  • Love RS' comment at the start - "This is the goth bit of the set" !!!

  • Thanx so much i' ve never found what he did say!!!! :)

  • Says: This is the goth bit of the set.

  • Always so atmospheric they are. :)
