  • Aw this is just as classic and cute as Mickey. Total Disney stuff I love the way everything moves and draws your eye in. The magic of character, and the expression on these critters is something that you just don't see today. Oswald is the original black and white toon star. And by far the coolest in thing happening in vintage look back today!

  • After watching this, Oswald is now one of my most favroite cartoon character's.

  • why did he duck when it was going into the tunnel?

  • super trippy

  • i thought this was a silent cartoon

  • Oswald is amazing. Waaaay better than Mickey Mouse!

  • i love this episode for 3 reasons, first this is a historic cartoon but unrecognized by history. second, this was Disneys truely FIRST not steamboat willie, people think that was his first but it was NOT! anyway steamboat willie was just mikey mouses first. finally this lead to the Disney cartoon that STARTED Disney.

  • punch the fat guy out of a running train.. we don't have this kind of violence anymore... this never gets old

  • this was done the year my house was built!!!!!!

  • 1:20 sounds like Elmo's song :O

  • Hello welcome to internet, the place that you can watch a very underground cartoon from almost a century ago !

  • if you look closely at the opening title, you will notice that the copyright is actually 1931; this is because walter lantz remade the original cartoon produced by iwerks and disney in 1927, adding a soundtrack and new music. either way, these cartoons always put me in a good mood

  • Lost cartoon i ever seen.

  • Awesome!

  • It makes you wonder, why they decided to turn Oswald into a Mouse... And what would have happened if they didn't...?

  • @thesciencebehindit They didn't. Oswald and Mickey are 2 separated characters created by the exact same two guys, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. The reason they've created Mickey Mouse because they've lost the rights to Oswald. There been Oswald cartoons after Disney and Iwerks left Universal to make some Mickey Mouse cartoons.

  • 3:02 Felix the Cat??

  • these cartoons always make me smile.

and to think they went from this to Snow White in only 10 years

  • @cartoonmarc Woah, you're right! I keep forgetting that Snow White and old Mickey and Oswald cartoons were made by the same person.

  • hahahaha is a mickey father

  • This cartoon is a classic. :)

  • Ub Iwerks animated these shorts, uncredited. Disney supervised.

  • I truly hate all the "thumbs up" and "coming here because of..." posts. Grrrr!

  • Isn't there a slight problem here? This cartoon has sound effects but the first sound effects were in the Mickey cartoons. Oswalds usually just had music in the background.

  • lol for 5:08

  • train is running... lol for 5:08

  • F*ck Mickey Mouse.

Oswald the Lucky Rabbit's where it's at.

  • thumbs up if the mail sent you here

  • lol

Im going to use that expression 3:04

  • if anyone plays Toontown, know you know where the trolley came from!

  • I LOVE RABBIT OSWALD SO MUCH !

♡ I miss old cartoons like this.

  • I think micky was better.

    But oswald is classic too.

  • @ bluehaze46, he PREDATES Micky

  • @ujoepost its @bluehaze46 not @ bluehaze46

  • the little cow don't want to move on... =D

    1:54

  • you know, he's basically just mickey with longer ears.

  • yeaahhhh old cartoons ;)

  • Planes that Oswald came to the moor by the guilt of mickey

  • Notice all but one of the children are bunnies but one is a cat

  • @FierceyKun Yeah. Probably not all of Oswald and Ortensia's kids are rabbits like Oswald. There's probably some who are cats like Ortensia. But the Bunny Children are way more know well.

  • I love Oswald. Mickey too, but Oswald better!!

  • @fiercedeityfan Agree.

  • and I thought mickey mouse was crap....this is fucking turd

  • this sounds silly put someone should do a cover of this song. its catchy

  • better then all mickey clubhouse

  • I wonder if Disney has any rights to this cartoon now? I read some sources saying Disney gained rights to the first 26 Oswald shorts after a deal was made in 2006. However, I read another source that says the Oswald cartoons released in 1927 (except All Wet) are in the public domain.

  • @RetroRabFan All the existing ones were released on the Disney Treasures a few years ago.

  • @RetroRabFan Public Domain on some of the original shorts doesn't block Disney from continuing to use the character. They do own the rights to Oswald (and Ortensia, his feline lady) the characters, so they can use them freely in new ventures.

Personally, I would love to see him start appearing again. Maybe Disney's next animated feature should be about reintroducing the character. That would be fun!

  • Great to see pre-Mickey Mouse Disney cartoons!

  • With all due respect to Disney, Iwerks and everyone who worked hard on this...what a difference a year makes!

Not because of the fallout between Disney and Universal, but because cartoons in general had become much more articulate and well designed compared to before. And while I respect these early cartoons, I have to say anything before 1927 is difficult to watch nowadays, whereas I can still get a kick out of almost anything post-1932.

  • @AntiVenom36 fuck you foxy is better than those felix the cat ripoffs. and felix is the star who paved the way for them. and krazy kat paved the way for felix so all in all krazy is the master cartoon who may not have reached star potetial like felix but he or she started it all

  • @pauletteking Ok you two let's just agree that all the old school characters from this era are to thank for paving the way for animated stars and even video game characters, I mean a lot of the more famous video game animal characters from Japan were inspired by Mickey, Felix the Cat, Oswald and heck a lot of other black and white cartoons and a lot of Japanese animation took inspiration from these old cartoons, let's just say we owe it to all of them for *2bcont.*

  • @pauletteking Let's just say we owe it to all of the old black and white cartoon stars for getting animation as far as it did. Even if the medium is sort of in the ghetto today we should all remember there was a golden age for animation you can only imagine where animation would have been had all of the black and white cartoon stars silent or not had never existed.

  • He's practically mickey mouse in his old form only 200 years old.

question is and I've been checking wiki's who came before I found a lead to the beginning of cartoon animation ancient egyiption artist once made various paintings on the wall of a tomb side by side which if played in order would be two slaves fighting to the death check the picture out just google first animation ever and click the wikipedia tell me if you have pics of anything older or before Oswald the lucky rabbit

  • @bassett5dn

I guess the first recorded animation is "Humorous Phases of Funny Faces" (1906).

  • Happy Birthday to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit! :D

  • This day in Disney history: Sept 5th: the very first Oswald catoon "trolley troubles" was realeased by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks.

If only the knew then what we know now....

  • This day (Sept 5) in 1927 the very first oswald catoon "trolley troubles" was realeased by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. If only they knew what would happen to their new star.

  • Oswald was one of the first cartoons I saw on TV as a toddler. Ub Iwerks' "Flip The Frog" was the other that I remember as if it were yesterday.

  • i cant believe no one remembers oswald the lucky rabbit. i learned about the rabbit when i when to walt disney world in florida for the first time

  • This rabbit was stolen from Walt Disney!

  • big splashes can't happen...

  • my grandma told me about the rabbit when i was 5 and how she watched it when she was little.i never forgot about this little rabbit :)

  • Espaectacular!! Nothing beats this! :)

  • Where did you get the version that has sound to it?

  • this is so funny ! ive benn watching it for hours and still laughing

  • This = WAY better than any of the crap you see on TV these days.

  • Who noticed the rest of his leg disappear evry time he kissed his foot eh????

    Classic by the way

  • who can dislike such a classic

  • lolstfu! funnier than mickey

  • Not quite as interesting as Mickey but hey, ya gotta start somewhere, thumbs up if you agree

  • Thums up if you wold like to see Oswald in Kingdom Hearts!

  • What a pro, he's my hero :)

  • God this is when my grandpa was around

He told me all about these cartoons =)

  • I personally like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit more than I like Mickey Mouse, mainly because Walt Disney created him first.

  • Walt has always been quoted as saying, "remember all of this started with a mouse." The truth is it all started with a rabbit!

  • @WatchVenusSpa

Actually, it started with custom ads and greetings played on cinema screens. Oswald came a short time later though. WE Disney was just plain magic; don't you think?

  • @WatchVenusSpa They also thought is started on a steam boat when realy it started on a trolley.

  • @WatchVenusSpa They also thought it started in a steam boat when it really started in a trolley.

  • @WatchVenusSpa Well the truth is that it started with silent movies called Laugh-o-grams :) (1922)

  • thumbs up if u came here cause of epic mickey

  • 1:32 reminds me of crash bandicoot

  • I wish cartoons were as good at this

  • why epic mickey? why not epic oswald? he is so much awesomer.

  • @bla1668 Disney owns all the rights to Oswald again and their planning to add him to the character lineup in the near future

  • @gt4611 Disney traded Al Michaels to get Oswald

  • 0:46 I'm sure the child deserved that...

  • How the built that traintrack?

  • How the heck built that traintrack?

  • LOL, look at how many kids he has. "Lucky" rabbit indeed.

  • I like how his leg disappears when he kisses the other half

  • me quedo con transmilenio! jajaj

  • his name was originally oscar, but there was a mistype

  • haha he scream like the martians from Mars attack !

  • The music reminds me of the opening theme from Monsters Inc.

  • haha lol 0:47

  • im only 11 and heard of oswald before epic mickey

  • I wonder what the original soundtrack was like if it had any?

  • Epic Mickey status!!! One of the greatest Disney games since the Kingdom Hearts series!!!

  • I know I'm gonna sound like a total LOSER for saying this but I would have never heard of Oswald if it wasn't for Epic Mickey...

But still now I know Oswald and the Bunny Children lol

  • Epic Mickey was the most boring game that I have ever played.

  • @Awesomeness7373 dude if you hated this awesome game so much, why are you watching this?

  • i beat epic mickey. :)

  • I find oswald much cuter than mickey. i'd wish disney kept him so he'd be their main person instead of mickey who properly hadn't even existed then. The it'd just been oswald who'd been in all the magical comic adventures mickey got into

  • I find oswald much cuter than mickey. i'd wish disney kep him so he'd be their main person instead of mickey who properly hadn't even existed then. The it'd just been oswald who'd been in all the magical comic adventures mickey got into

  • Close to Mickey hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • I want to see a Disney special in which Mickey enters a Parallel Universe in which

If Walt had kept the rights to Oswald and never created "him" With Oswald being the giant superstar being in Steamboat Willy, Fantasia and all the cartoons that Mickey starred in and Donald and Goofy are Oswald's best friends not knowing who Mickey is.

I read that Disney is trying to revive Oswald's character and bring him back into the spotlight. The game "Epic Mickey" is no doubt a precursor hinting that.

  • Four years after this cartoon was released, Warner Bros. released a short with a slightly similar plot. But what starred there was a different animal.

  • @TiCar85 i think i know wb cartoon your refreeing too its called "smile darn you smile"

  • @TiCar85 youre thinkign of smile darn ya smile starring foxy

  • @TiCar85 Indeed. The plot in this one was just like "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile!" from 1931.

  • @TiCar85 Indeed. This one was just like "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile!" from 1931.

  • @TiCar85 "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile"!

  • @TiCar85

That's probably because Ubbe Iwerks, who did most of Disney's animation (and this one), moved to Warner Bros.

  • @TiCar85 Which one was that?

  • this is awsome! thank you epic mickey for reminding me of this character!

now... keep him off mickey mouse clubhouse. that would suck.

  • @Taya990 yes it would suck ass!

  • @Taya990 yes, the whole show should be taken down, I bet ol' walt is turning in his grave about that show.

  • @Taya990 Amen!

  • poor oswld. mickey stole his fame and sold out but oswald stayed pure and forgoten.........and then disney brought him back as a villan.

  • @FallenAngel6499 yeah when i was playing epic mickey i was thinking who is oswald??

he looks familiar, and i remembered i saw him in a cartoon very long ago.

he was there before mickey, poor oswald... being forgoten... i would've been angry to...

  • Oswald here looks like an overweight hillbilly but it's not bad.

  • I'm in LOVE with the music! It's so funny when he goes through those tunnels XD "Ah!!!"....."Ah!!!" lol

  • I just found out when this cartoon was released! July 4th, 1927! So Oswald has the same birthday as America does! :D

  • thumbs up if you think it's sad that disney lost oswald

  • before epic mickey, i dint know who oswald was! fuck, who needs mickey if youve got oswald? thumbs up f you agree!

  • That 1911 button now comes in handy!

  • @skellington15 damn that would have been cool

  • i know this sounds wierd people but im actually kind of happy universal studios took olswalt in ( even though i love oswalt) its just that. we wouldnt have the disney company. and no disney movies( incuding gasp! lion king) and we wouldnt have the adorable, funny, and beasty mickey!! plus we got oswalt back in the end so YAY!!!

  • oeju

  • dove lo hai preso da disney epic michey io da la ne ho presi due

  • @Simone9Terralavoro i dont speak whatever that language is. Have you givin a thought of learning a popular language, like English?

  • Anyone who had anythign to do with this cartoon is now dead.

  • Around 5:10 Oswalds foot disappeared.

  • Stupid Universal pictures why did u claim oswald for your own!? If u hadbt stolw Disneys employees and Oswald it would be more fun but i also thank you becuz then we would have never met mickey :/

  • ahhhh... oswald

  • I miss him. He should've never been killed off.

  • lest back in time with time machine named youtube.

  • Thanks for uploading this! I love watching these shows!

  • at Disneyland California adventure they have a picture of Oswald at the entrance

  • Ub Iwerks was the one who created both Oswald the Rabbit and Mickey Mouse while working with Walt Disney. Disney never gave Iwerks the credit he deserved so he quit. Also, the oldest cartoon that i have seen was a Felix the Cat cartoon from 1919.

  • thumbs up if you think oswald should have his own show

  • @torretortilla11 I'm with you. Oswald needs to be brought back fully. Hopefully that will happen now thanks to Epic Mickey.

  • It's a shame, but out of the original 26 Oswald cartoons, only half still exist...

  • omgosh. it's clarabelle!!!

  • R.I.P Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks the creaters of Oswald and Mickey.

  • Epic Mickey sent me here! :D

  • Wait. If steamboat Willie was supposed to be the first cartoon with sound then what about this?

  • @Twilight14Vampire This was originally released as a silent film. The soundtrack was added when it was rereleased a few years later.

  • @laughland Why does it show that Steambost Willie was ep. 3?

  • @Twilight14Vampire Steamboat Willie was not the first cartoon with sound. There were others released before that one that contained sound, but the audio and video did not play in sync. Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon where the audio played where it was supposed to in relation to what was being shown. Also, Steamboat Willie was not the first Mickey Mouse cartoon- the short called Plane Crazy was.

  • @AriGriffin243

Plane Crazy had Mickey Mouse in, but I thought Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon that actually named him.

  • @AriGriffin243 If you want to get technical, Plane Crazy was produced first, but Steamboat Willie was released first. I might be wrong though, as I got this off of wikipedia.

  • it's so lame whe people use wikipedia as source. A site where ANY with entry can edit the

  • @AriGriffin243 If you want to get technical, Plane Crazy was produced first, but Steamboat Willie was released first. I might be wrong though, as I got this off of wikipedia.

  • @Twilight14Vampire, Steamboat willie was the first of the MIKEY MOUSE cartoons, not the first cartoon ever. I'm not really sure what the first cartoon ever was, but it's probably something like this, not the mikey mouse cartoons.

  • @Lulurosyposy actually, "Steamboat Willie" was not the first Mickey cartoon. "Plane Crazy" came before that

  • but they forgot to put sound on it at first time.

  • felix is much older than both mickey & oswald.

  • of course it wasn't 1st cartoon with sound(i think). Why shouldn't there have been any kind of sound in any cartoon before?

  • well oswald is funney.

  • I think he is more like an unlucky rabbit

  • This is sooo much better than the actualy trash on Disney Chanel

  • This is too good of an animation to be made in the 1920s :O

  • That's a pretty underpowered trolley. Reminds me of the HRT light rail. lol

  • Interesting to watch

  • Ow! Why did Oswald pour oil in that guys face!(oil or whatever it is)

  • @TheGameReviews1000 Cause it's funny. :D

  • lol 1:20 FALCON PUNCH!

  • I LOVE early animation! The way Oswald escorts his passengers onto the trolley, at 1:26, is very economical.

  • So Oswald would be like a grand supreme Key Blade Master.

  • How many people know that Oswald is Mickeys older Half Brother?

It's not well known( I think) but Walt at some point declared it so.

  • @kitten48484 Yea it said that in Epic Mickey (I like Oswald, in Epic Mickey he lived a sad life)

  • Walts distributers had taken his staff and told Disney that they had owned the image of Oswald and that he was pretty much fired. Afterwards that's when Disney created Mickey

  • Can anyone tell me why Walt had to abandon Oswald? I mean, he and Mickey would have made great main co-characters.

  • @drybowserman9091 He actully didn't abandon Oswald he actully lost rights to him.

So that's how Mickey was born.

but in 2006 Disney got the rights to Oswald back :)

  • adoro estos videos deberian hacer una nueva serie a color

  • @ceresitachocolate yes, we all can understand you.

  • If only Oswald was accquired in the 90's we could have had a cool Oswald show!
