after watching donaire's performance against vasquez, i'm no longer sure he would do very well vs rigondeaux. there is still much to be desired with his defense (he got touched a lot) and to think rigo is > vasquez. while its true that he injured his left hand, it was not a fracture and painful as originally suspected yet he was unable to deliver his money shot?! it didn't seem like it wuda changed anything had his injury not happened.

just watched the Donaire vs WV jr fight. Donaire was as slow joke as WV jr. He score the best punches though. But that just proves there is no way he can do a thing with Rigondeaux. That fight just got 80-20% on Rigondeaux favor.

La realidad es que muchos boxeadores cubanos estan entrando al mundo profesional que no conocian, boxeadores como Gamboa, Lara y Rigo tienen muy buenos fundamentos experiencia y talla para estar en los mejores libra por libra y obviamente son boxeadores que otros van por razones obvias evitar enfrentar. Soy fanatico del box y aprecio calidad no importa de donde vengan. Soy de PR y me gusta el estilo de Gamboa tal vez Rigo es mejor tecnicamente pero no es tan flashy como el ciclon.

Rigondeaux is too vulnerable for Donaire's weaponized deadly left hook. Look closely, when he throw his left straight, his right hand is dropping giving some space for the left hook to land precisely on the money. This is a habit that is not easy to change. I would not be surprised if he rides his ring bicycle once he gets touched with that punch.

I never mentioned a particular puerto rican boxer in any of my posts, but if we look at things from a historical perspective, we will see that there IS no argument. Cuba has produced awesome technical boxers, especially in the Olympics but Puerto Rico is LEGENDARY with the amount of champions and Hall of Fame boxers. Lets leave the race issue out of it. I hope I've misconstrued you in saying "300 amateur fights outside of US mean nothing." If so, let me tell you USA hasn't been in the top 5 amateur boxing nations for a good 10 years, their system right now is a disgrace.
you make some solid points. @RizoSaysAha The amateur record is impressive and so is the olympic record, but we all know how suspect the olympic scoring system is and how an Olympic star doesn't always translate into a pro star. Our system here in the US is pretty disgraceful. He IS a talent and displays great boxing tactics, but he is unproven in the upper echelon and that was my only point. I didn't mention anything about Cubans OR Ricans, just that he is still unproven here which is truth.

Torres and Ramos are decent wins after 9 fights, but he's in a strong divison with Donaire and Nishioka now, real challenges to come :) I'm neither Rican or Cuban, so I have no idea about the rivalry.
@RizoSaysAha well I'll give you a brief history. Puerto Ricans & Cubans share a flag (in reversed colors) and they also share at least one genre of music (to a degree). Cubans complain that Ricans copy everything they do, which is ridiculous on way too many levels. The educated Cuban knows that Puerto Rico & Cuba were considered "sibling countries" unified by their struggles under Spanish and then US rule (until the US withdrew from Cuba paving the way for Castro's eventual rule).
@RizoSaysAha Bottom line from my perspective, is that Cubans have a deep seeded disdain for Ricans stemming from the direction that both countries ended up going in after the US takeover of Puerto Rico and Castro's subsequent coupe of Cuba. Puerto Ricans will always love Cuba and still speak on the solidarity that once existed, but Cubans can't seem to stop the accusations of copying. The cold hard truth is that BOTH countries have borrowed from AFRICAN and indigenous culture.

Soy cubano y creo que PR es una isla hermana de Cuba, y aunque a veces en deportes como este nos enfrentamos. Es solo competencia entre hermanos, y no debemos acusarnos de cosas como de copiar los unos a los otros. Cualquier producto de la cultura o la sociedad cubana esta bien si se comparte con el mundo, y mucho mejor si es con una isla hermana como PR, y espero que la gente de PR se sientan igual.

after watching donaire's performance against vasquez, i'm no longer sure he would do very well vs rigondeaux. there is still much to be desired with his defense (he got touched a lot) and to think rigo is > vasquez. while its true that he injured his left hand, it was not a fracture and painful as originally suspected yet he was unable to deliver his money shot?! it didn't seem like it wuda changed anything had his injury not happened.

La realidad es que muchos boxeadores cubanos estan entrando al mundo profesional que no conocian, boxeadores como Gamboa, Lara y Rigo tienen muy buenos fundamentos experiencia y talla para estar en los mejores libra por libra y obviamente son boxeadores que otros van por razones obvias evitar enfrentar. Soy fanatico del box y aprecio calidad no importa de donde vengan. Soy de PR y me gusta el estilo de Gamboa tal vez Rigo es mejor tecnicamente pero no es tan flashy como el ciclon.

Rigondeaux is too vulnerable for Donaire's weaponized deadly left hook. Look closely, when he throw his left straight, his right hand is dropping giving some space for the left hook to land precisely on the money. This is a habit that is not easy to change. I would not be surprised if he rides his ring bicycle once he gets touched with that punch.

you make some solid points. @RizoSaysAha The amateur record is impressive and so is the olympic record, but we all know how suspect the olympic scoring system is and how an Olympic star doesn't always translate into a pro star. Our system here in the US is pretty disgraceful. He IS a talent and displays great boxing tactics, but he is unproven in the upper echelon and that was my only point. I didn't mention anything about Cubans OR Ricans, just that he is still unproven here which is truth.

@RizoSaysAha well I'll give you a brief history. Puerto Ricans & Cubans share a flag (in reversed colors) and they also share at least one genre of music (to a degree). Cubans complain that Ricans copy everything they do, which is ridiculous on way too many levels. The educated Cuban knows that Puerto Rico & Cuba were considered "sibling countries" unified by their struggles under Spanish and then US rule (until the US withdrew from Cuba paving the way for Castro's eventual rule).

@RizoSaysAha Bottom line from my perspective, is that Cubans have a deep seeded disdain for Ricans stemming from the direction that both countries ended up going in after the US takeover of Puerto Rico and Castro's subsequent coupe of Cuba. Puerto Ricans will always love Cuba and still speak on the solidarity that once existed, but Cubans can't seem to stop the accusations of copying. The cold hard truth is that BOTH countries have borrowed from AFRICAN and indigenous culture.

Ese Rigondeaux le va a dar problemas a cualquiera entre las 118 a las 126,es rapido,pegador,muy buena tecnica,no es un peleador de poner mucha presion quizas esa es su unica debilidad si es que se puede considerar de esa manera,hay que ver cuando lo toquen como responde pero definitivamente que es peligroso.

Soy cubano y creo que PR es una isla hermana de Cuba, y aunque a veces en deportes como este nos enfrentamos. Es solo competencia entre hermanos, y no debemos acusarnos de cosas como de copiar los unos a los otros. Cualquier producto de la cultura o la sociedad cubana esta bien si se comparte con el mundo, y mucho mejor si es con una isla hermana como PR, y espero que la gente de PR se sientan igual.
