One day the prof. came late to class so by rule we are allowed to leave if he does not show up after 20 minutes. So as we left we saw him downstairs. He sd "That's okay guys." Some of us went back up, about 6 of us. The rest of the students left. This goes to show you how valued education is by the students. No one cares. I went back because it's stupid to just ditch class. He's nice and i like the class but I hate college life.

At least Rodney Dangerfield told the truth about what the real world is like. I am nothing against Business School, the problem is that the teacher in the Business School have no clue on what is like to run a business
From that clip you cited, ideal business is just a quasi farce. I figured out how to do business for myself rather than just parrot off what a so-called "authority" was on the burden itself.

My family pressures me and yes, I live with them too. I am almost 22, and I can't even control my own life due to fear. I am not lazy. I am depressed. Most of us what to enjoy life but take care of our responsibilities too. We know it's possible, unlike anal retentive folks like you.
I'm guessing you also ran a DontGoToSchool back in the days.
I'm sorry for yourself, investing your time trying to sell people that college actually makes you dumber. That's so retarded and so twisted idea that only someone with a very low intelligence would conceive.
Smart, educated, intelligent people will succeed in life, either they have been to college or not. But a GOOD college is a shortcut to learning the basic mechanics of your subject of study.
@jg2904 If you are getting an undergrad degree then it is only practical if paired up with another degree (double major). While I agree that the idea that college for the most part is not nesscary for every (doctors, lawyers, architects, nurses, teachers ect. would be exempt from this) I don't think it really works like that. I see many companies making it a requirement to have an Bachelors degree, this includes jobs that have no reason to require one.
I have had a business of engineering prof. who actually started and later sold afew high-tech companies successfully. And to be frank, he did teach me alot about business, but ppl like him are uncommon, and things they teach at school don't even come close to what you can learn in a realistic business setting outside school.
I beleive going to college has one purpose ONLY, to broaden your range of thoughts, and to make you realize that there's still alot you don't know.
i like how this guy tries to bring in opportunity cost; seriously you can't put a price on education, ..so to bring in an unknown into the equation and the plus those with B.S/B.A make more than those with just a G.E.D and M.S/M.A make more then a bachelors and PhD make the most...of course this is just based on averages,
Wow, get a load of this guy! I love irony, he preaches not getting an education and he can't speak or read. Yeah buddy, you're shooting yourself in the foot
ur taking from a movie to try and prove ur point really? college its a great idea it can open ur eyes up to a whole new world and there is a such thing as scholarships everyone can apply for thousands of them to help pay or even pay for the whole thing but to tell kids not to go to college sounds more like a mad lonely lonesome person who didnt get into college or scared of growing up either case let people make up their own minds wheather they want to go or study outside of it grow up man
But the important thing is, if you see a college education as a means of entitlement, you'll lose, if you see it as leverage to show you are the man they are looking for, you'll succeed. When I get my degree, I'm going to take an appropriate starting job, then start from scratch with everything to prove. My degree just proves that I'm ready for that job. Everything else is what I do ON the job.
Learning can be boring, but I don't think I could cut it as an aerospace engineer without a good solid understanding of high level math, and I doubt I could pull that off without college. Fact is, the real world is full of uncertainty. We live in a world where you can make $60,000+ as a graduating engineer or become a millionaire overnight just by adding sleeves to a blanket. College doesn't guarantee greater wealth, but a good degree can be helpful when looking for a well-paying job.
college graduates suffer from the delusion, that they are "ENTITLED" to a career or a promotion, simply because of their knowledge. if that was truly the case, then why would anybody bother starting from the bottom and working their way up. also, these people obviously don't understand that there is a big difference between being "educated" and being "INTELLIGENT", just ask bill gates & albert einstein-who by the way- hated school with a passion.
"then there are long term costs like waste disposal....I do not know if you are familiar with who runs that business but I assure you it's not the boy scouts!"
I took exactly one business class in college....the professor insisted that pharmceutical detailers (the ones that go to doctors' offices and give out free samples and talk about the products) make 6 figures. My mom was a detailer at the time and made an hourly wage that was faaaaaar short of 6 figures. Same with all her colleagues. And she was a detailer for a MAJOR pharma and consumer products company. That was the last business class I took.
These college professors know how to build a business, but they sure have no idea how to run one. They know nothing about competition from other businesses, which location is the best to have one or is the product they're trying to sell be worthy.
Let's not generalize! College education has been debased by government guarantees. Any clown can attend college if he can sign a student loan form! That's crap! What about merit? Imagine how the NFL would look if anyone who could run was enabled to join in? College education should be restricted to the most capable and willings; specially in the scientific fields. Why the hell someone will get a phd in education ? College is a con, for most!
the truth is college is shit. unless of course one is limited. i went to college. better to start your own small business. something those liberal miserable nazis never teach you to do in college.
One other thing. I have a grandfather who is CEO of a construction company that builds hospitals, churches, hotels, etc. and do you know how high is educational level is? High school graduate. He started out as a construction worker himself after coming home from WWII.
@conservative608 BINGO. I know many people like that. Unfortunately, it's not as easy in today's world. All of my Grandfathers and Great Uncles owned successful businesses. None of them went to college. Unless it's a 2-year specialized degree, college is a waste, especially when it comes to business.
This is why politicians rarely understand free-market capitalism like our president. They spend all of their time in school then immediately enter politics without working in the private sector. The politicians govern under arrogant, academic assumptions of the business world without entering it. People crack jokes about George W. Bush failing in business before entering politics but often times business skills are learned in the school of hard knocks.
The government and loan companies will help pay for college, but it's hard to get that kind of money to just start a business from scratch with absolutely no credit and no experience. Actually, it's extremely difficult to discharge student loans through bankruptcy, and it's rarely ever granted. Maybe if you have all your limbs ripped off in a wood chipper accident and are totally unable to work you could get an exception for medical hardship, but even then don't bet on it. The banks know they will get their money back plus hefty interest no matter what, so if you fail to graduate or your degree doesn't get you a good job you're pretty well screwed.
HA get this don't go to college guy. I know a guy who works at a retail store that has a college "business degree". HE demanded to be promoted to manager the first day and pissed off everyone. HE told his supervisor that because of his degree he knows more than them.
This is a very good point That you make, Many college students feel they will know better than than their supervisors'. I am a college student And going to college is not for everyone in fact I believe most people are being con by college.
This clip is not sufficient evidence backing up the claims of DGTC. To begin with, the movie BACK TO SCHOOL is about a wealthy business owner who decides to go back to school and try to get a degree. This would run counter to the message articulated here that college is counterproductive. As for the rest of the video, I would agree that Business has no place as an academic major at any school but I don't make the rules. Again, you demonstrate your ineptitude ad nauseum.
This is so true! I have degrees in both physics and planning. I found my years as an assistant manager at vons and other prior work experience were way more valuable than two pieces of paper. Also, great choice in picking this Rodney Dangerfield scene, since more kids need to know on the job experience is what counts in the real world.
I wasn't trying to say that "having a business is the obvious choice". I was trying to say that real world experience is the obvious choice.
I think that the "college worshippers" (I used to be one) are too emotionally involved with college. It's easy to get caught up in the groupthink mentality. Everybody wants to be though of as "educated" and "smart".
It's pretty cute how people think I'm a "failure in college". I am a member of three academic honor societies. I was an engineering major.
So, you're saying that college isn't for everyone, but at the same time you're trying to say that having a business is the obvious choice?
You seem to miss a key concept. If everyone owned a business, then no one would be able to hire employees?.... We'd all have one-man-run businesses.
You have such a great mind. You're just too emotionally involved in what you believe in. It's pretty cute how frustrated you are with your failure in college.
look dude your very smart I know this but your going to have to work on your reading skills and how you time things, pratice reading before you hit the record button that should help
college Graduates need a bailout/ tuition exemptions who studied the wrong subjects.......or put those people who created the subjects in prison. .............. too bad the Republic is dead.
Lol! Hahahaha! Loved this movie! So true! These pie in the sky professors think they are little gods. They teach people to be employees (ie. kiss the professors ass for a higher grade ; kiss the bosses ass for a promotion). These professors think they are superior to everyone.
I have a question for Dont Go To College. Where would you recommend obtaining the training to become a computer scientist, registered nurse,
Or ultra sound technician?
While it is true that there are college degrees that do not hold any weight in the real world, there are quite a few that are extremely valuable. I personally cannot see paying high dollar for a liberal arts school such as Bowdoin or St. Johns. But there are some instances where a college degree is necessary.
Please see my introductory video where I state "except for a few career choices such as medicine, law, or science, you can get a good education without college."
Don'tgo tocollege man. should you feel bad if you make money but aint got no degree? what do you say to a girl when she ask you if u went to school? can u imagine how it can get uncomfortable? some girls only will date u if u have a degree. can u believe that?
You should not feel bad about not going to college ever...especially if you're making money. A girl who will only date a guy with a college degree is probably someone who has no sense of self worth outside of her college degree and isn't worthy of you. You can confidently say something like..."I didn't go to college. I a real world kind of guy and the way I do my job proves it." Say it with confidence and don't waste time with girls who think otherwise.
Thanks that helps me feel a little better. I made 49,000 in sales the first quarter of 09 and the economy is rough. But I am now almost 24 years old and the older i get the more i feel like i missed out. Ever hear that rap song I love college by asher roth? I feel like I could have made more friends and met more girls and stuff if i lived in a dorm room. So it's like a trade off. I'm getting too old to hang with 18 year olds at a JC now though. should i feel bad for missing out the party life?
You're doing great. You're quite the businessman. That 'I Love College" song is pretty funny. I don't think you missed out on anything at all. You can still hang out with fun people and have a great time. If you can pull that many sales, you're obviously the kind of guy who knows how to connect very well with people.
I went to a "party school" but did not take part in the party scene. Its over rated. I'm actually going back to school for engineering after finding out that my BA double major is bs in the recession world. having also done military, i say only go to either if it would help your goals.
@JLeeMagnetic If a girl is only willing to date someone if they went to college, then she's not the girl for you. Dating someone solely based on their "caliber" is a sign that she's not the right girl. Men w/o a college degree can offer love, stability and happiness too.
You get your information out of movies which are produced more than a decade ago!
The USA education system hasn't got the best financial construction, but that is old information. When you compared it to the Dutch version (I live there, that's why) you will see a great list of advantages on the Dutch side. But, the american taxpayer pays way less of income taxes. It is all about how you want to spend your money. And classes DO teach the vast, vast majority of students what they need.
USA education has the best "financial construction" if you're a educational bureaucrat. Lots of money with no accountability. We also pay high property taxes in the USA and we also have State income taxes not just Federal . It's not about the money. I met a 18 year old Danish girl whose English writing was better than the majority of US college graduates. I'm sure it's similar for the Dutch. USA education is dumbed down so they can take more money and tell us that we're "educated".
There's a difference between an economic theorist, a builder, a property manager, a salesman, and a craftsman.
Take Donald Trump, for instance. He's the most efficient builder in America, but he's no good at managing his properties.
A lot of these economics/business professors are better at policy issues than the day-to-day operations of business.

Being smart, educated, and intelligent does NOT guarantee success.
College is NOT a short cut. It is expensive and very time consuming.

HAAAAAAAA
He wont last a month in retail.........

Wow! Talk about academic arrogance. He may know more words than they do but I wonder what he can actually do.
DontGoToCollege 2 years ago 8
@DontGoToCollege
Well he can't really do anything. Business school doesn't really teach real world customer service......

Business school teaches you the importance of networking.

@vanorenstein
Some business schools don't really have good networks. Most general management and marketing degrees will only land you a low paying job now!
Accounting degrees are gold though!

You're right.

Dick's Sporting Goods will hire him and put him right in mid to upper management with absolutely NO floor experience!

Again, you demonstrate your ineptitude ad nauseum.

is there any reason why you have trouble composing simple sentences? You also seem to not understand what research is.

This is so true! I have degrees in both physics and planning. I found my years as an assistant manager at vons and other prior work experience were way more valuable than two pieces of paper. Also, great choice in picking this Rodney Dangerfield scene, since more kids need to know on the job experience is what counts in the real world.
goodgbye 2 years ago 6
are you sure you have a physics degree? science is one of the few fields you can actually find work in. america needs scientists.

DontGoToCollege 2 years ago
What college did you attend and it depends which honor societies some are jokes.
logloglife 2 years ago
So, you're saying that college isn't for everyone, but at the same time you're trying to say that having a business is the obvious choice?
You seem to miss a key concept. If everyone owned a business, then no one would be able to hire employees?.... We'd all have one-man-run businesses.
You have such a great mind. You're just too emotionally involved in what you believe in. It's pretty cute how frustrated you are with your failure in college.

Lol!

Thanks for your comment.

Don'tgo tocollege man. should you feel bad if you make money but aint got no degree? what do you say to a girl when she ask you if u went to school? can u imagine how it can get uncomfortable? some girls only will date u if u have a degree. can u believe that?
JLeeMagnetic 2 years ago
You should not feel bad about not going to college ever...especially if you're making money. A girl who will only date a guy with a college degree is probably someone who has no sense of self worth outside of her college degree and isn't worthy of you. You can confidently say something like..."I didn't go to college. I a real world kind of guy and the way I do my job proves it." Say it with confidence and don't waste time with girls who think otherwise.
DontGoToCollege 2 years ago
Thanks that helps me feel a little better. I made 49,000 in sales the first quarter of 09 and the economy is rough. But I am now almost 24 years old and the older i get the more i feel like i missed out. Ever hear that rap song I love college by asher roth? I feel like I could have made more friends and met more girls and stuff if i lived in a dorm room. So it's like a trade off. I'm getting too old to hang with 18 year olds at a JC now though. should i feel bad for missing out the party life?
JLeeMagnetic 2 years ago
You're doing great. You're quite the businessman. That 'I Love College" song is pretty funny. I don't think you missed out on anything at all. You can still hang out with fun people and have a great time. If you can pull that many sales, you're obviously the kind of guy who knows how to connect very well with people.
DontGoToCollege 2 years ago
I went to a "party school" but did not take part in the party scene. Its over rated. I'm actually going back to school for engineering after finding out that my BA double major is bs in the recession world. having also done military, i say only go to either if it would help your goals.
jeremyrose 2 years ago
@JLeeMagnetic If a girl is only willing to date someone if they went to college, then she's not the girl for you. Dating someone solely based on their "caliber" is a sign that she's not the right girl. Men w/o a college degree can offer love, stability and happiness too.

Um, you do realize that's a movie, right?

I do realize it's a movie. However, it speaks the truth. Did you watch the whole video?
I include a real-life example of a real-life business professor who says that business school is a waste.
Thanks for your comment.

And classes DO teach the vast, vast majority of students what they need.
disgusted
Fonk04 3 years ago
USA education has the best "financial construction" if you're a educational bureaucrat. Lots of money with no accountability. We also pay high property taxes in the USA and we also have State income taxes not just Federal . It's not about the money. I met a 18 year old Danish girl whose English writing was better than the majority of US college graduates. I'm sure it's similar for the Dutch. USA education is dumbed down so they can take more money and tell us that we're "educated".
