  • what is the web site he is talking about?

  • I loved this book so much, it was incredibly comforting. Thank you, Neil Gaiman.

  • Oh yeah... I still think the Graveyard Book was a ripoff of Pet Sematary.

  • Comment removed

  • @martygwest ? this is a late reply but Pet Sematary and The Graveyard Book are NOTHING alike.. at all. I think your confused.. but both are amazing books.

  • Neil Gaiman actually does fund Scientology. He makes 6 figure donations to the cult every year. I don't read him anymore. He's an overrated pretentious prick. His wife is a cheap slut. Too bad she didn't vanish forever in the earthquake. Think about where your money is going.

  • Gaiman is a deluded scientologist who feeds money into the creepy cult.

  • I read The Graveyard Book and I love it, it made cry T_T and I wish Neil Gaiman would ask Henry Selik to make a movie like he did with Coraline... Would be awesome!

  • will you give me some writing tips?

    : - )

  • I love you too Neil

  • Great novel so far, on the Witch's Grave right now. Loving it.

  • ..i luv this book sooo much.. i luv the story.. evrything,, i was obsessd to it.. i wish i could find the same cemetery neil gaiman was talking to.. i also wish that bod is true.. so that i could meet him in person.. lol=]. by the way .. a highly-praised for that book. amazing !! i hope there would be a part 2.. and i suggest it will be 'the life and adventures of nobody owens' .. so neil,, if your reading this.. pls. pls. make a part 2 of the graveyard book..plsss.

  • I don't think he is a Scientologist or at least not a really serious one. I know that his family is but after reading an interveiw done with him about " American Gods", I highly doubt that he is. He seems to enjoy stories about Gods but not so much beleive in them. So a giant alien entity who freezes space creatures in Carbonyte would probably not be something he beleves in. Then again, he may just enjoy the morals of Scientology.

But who cares? hes a great author.

  • i loved this book..i felt sorry for bod that jack killed his family when he was a baby..and scarlett had to go..i felt so sorry for that poor Nobody Owens.

  • Is there a Vampire in the book.

  • @onikjohn3 it never says but it drops alot of hints that Silas is a Vampire.

  • @onikjohn3 yes the awesome kind... not the sparkly one..

  • i loved this book!

i finished it the day i got it from the library!

  • I Thought he was atheist ._.

  • Comment removed

  • Being athiest means you don't believe in any higher power (Allah, God, Buddah, Flying Spaghetti Monster, ect.)

And since this book has nothing to really do with any "God" figure, the fact that Neil is or isn't an athiest is pretty much moot.

  • LOVE LOVE the book, and the audio book as well.

Love Neil Gaiman and all the wonderful histories that come from his mind ^___^

  • Neil Gaiman can say anything and make it haunting. I'm not sure if it's intencial or not

  • I LOVE THE GRAVEYARD BOOK!!!!!

  • If he was a Scientologist, I'll take your word for that, it didn't seem to mess him up to much. I've watched a couple of his interviews, and he's a smart, intelligent human being. I really wanted to listen to his book on line chapter by chapter. What a great concept!!! Am I too late for that, or do you know of a website where I can log on?

  • you can always read the book

  • Oh hell yeah, that'd be amazing Neil Gaiman's autobiography. What would the title be? I never knew he was involved with Scientology. He really does appear otherworldly but I think the main reason for that is the level with which he lets his consciousness delve into otherworlds. I've heard it said and it sounds about right: 'He's not an author he's a story teller.' In my experience the story carrys you along with it and the more you let it the better the outcome.

  • "The biggest difference between the childhood of kids today and the one I had..."

is that Neil Gaiman was brought up in a parallel dimension by some minor gods 15,000 years ago. It's the only explanation for his otherworldlyness.

  • He is brilliant.

  • Unfortunate that he cut his hair.

  • "Because he would tumble down and die. "

    AHAHA LMAO

  • Neil Gaiman is, to me, fascinating, brilliant, unique.

That's why the "scientology thing" is interesting. It is

part of his experience and psyche. He seems to be a free spirit, original thinker. Hard to reconcile being part of the "org" with his intelligence and curiosity. He definitely was involved for a while at least. His father was definitely heavily involved. Children often follow, but he seems to have broken free.Would love him to write an autobiography. Would be fascinating!

  • Read him or dont

  • Yeah, total allegory of the jungle book. and i like it.

  • OMG everyone just SHUT up about the freaking Scientology thing...I never even HEARD about him being involved/not involved in scientology until now!! I mean...WTF did this come from?

And all this crazy arguing is now looking worse than that FREAKING IDIOTIC "controversy" over The Princess and the Frog being "racist"...OMG. What is with people these days? They will come up with and believe ANYTHING just to create hype about it.

    *storms off*

  • No one can tell a mystery like Neil. *Swoons*

  • While Gaiman's family (parents and sister Claire) are Scientologists, Neil has distanced himself from it more than 20 years ago. He doesn't fund it. The Gaiman Family who donates money refers to his parents and sister Claire not to him. The only reason he doesn't mention his departure from Scientology is that it would force his family to cut connections to him. You're badly misinformed.

  • No, he's not. You mix him up with Gaiman family which refers to his parents and sister. I spoke with his sister who told me he isn't involved anymore with Scientology. Hasn't been since the 80s.

  • Why does it matter anyway? Neil writes amazing books and I think that's all that matters, not if he's into Scientology or not.

  • Since the oppressive rules of Scientology prevent him from saying he left the cult as it would force his family members to bar him from their life, I think it matters. When misinformed people spout lies that damage Gaiman's repute while he himself a victim of that cult, it's important to set matters straight. Plus if an advocate of freedom of expression and member of the FBDLF like Gaiman supported Scientology, it would be hypocrite.

  • @phyllis9998 Thanks for clarification. But he is apparently in the list of subversives. My friend was wearing a NG t-shirt on Sunset blvd when he was accosted by the people peddling dianetics.

  • @ExcaliburofLight Saying that a much-loved figure, who means a lot to most of us here, is a Scientologist isn't exactly reflecting badly on the religion. And you're coming across as kind of obnoxious.

  • @PrawnSticks Neil moved away from Scientology as soon as he grew up. He is entitled to his privacy in that matter. And no one could be that close a friend of Harlan Ellison and remain part of a cult.

  • The ending of that book really struck my core.

  • Can I see your sources, please?

  • Go to Why We Protest for a general overview. Go to The Truth about Scientology and search Gaiman Faimly USA to see them listed as Patrons and Founding Partrons . Go to Scientology Celebrity Faq (Tilman) to see the Auditor Mag numbers where Neil's completions are listed. Go to Scientology Celebrity Blog and read the Scientologist's discussions about Neil. Go to Alt Religion and read ex Scientologists breaking down Neil's involvement with the Guardian's office. Need anything else?

  • If he's a Scientologist, how come he's never mentioned it at all in his blog? Either he is one and is thus presumably happy with it (in which case why wouldn't he speak out?) or he's not but keeps quiet for the sake of his family relationships.

Plus, I'm iffy about internet sources for the simple reason anyone can put anything up...and there's always the chance he's an ex-Scientologist. Thanks for the reading, though.

Reading his stuff, you wouldn't get any ideas of his involvement, either...

  • It isn't just internet sources, these listings are in physical form in Scientology magazines such as The Auditor. Gaiman's family are awarded by Scientology for their funding efforts. You cannot be an ex-scientologist in a family of high-ranking scientologists. You would be disconnected and shunned. Neil Gaiman has funded Scientology and continues to fund the CULT. I don't have an issue with his writing, I do have an issue with his large Scieno donations.

  • Then perhaps it's familial duty that keeps him there rather than actual love of the cult. If it's true, that's sad, but duty does not always triumph over love.

I guess we'll find out when he's dead.

  • You certainly are empathetic towards Gaiman. I would say that "duty" is often an excuse for cowardice. A Hero stands up against evil in all its forms no matter what the personal cost. A coward stays quiet in the face of evil in order to save his own skin. Either Neil Gaiman believes in Scientology and doesn't like being questioned or he doesn't believe in it but he's a coward and funds an evil organization. Either way, it stinks and it's disappointing.

  • Scientologists like Neil Gaiman often hide their status until they are outed by the press. When The Star outed Tom Cruise, the reporter was attacked by Scientology and the source was declared suppressive and "Fair Gamed," (enemies can be "tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed). If being a Scientologist cuts into profit, Scientologists keep quiet. Check Tom Cruise's "completions." He is an OT8 and an Auditor, but his completions are hidden. Neil Gaiman never denies his involvement.

  • How'd you figure your last statement? That he 'never denies his involvement'. Where has he ever mentioned it'?

  • In various interviews, Neil Gaiman is asked about Scientology and he avoids answering or says something like, "I don't think about it," which is not an answer. Neil Gaiman is a trained, high level auditor. He uses his fans to hide his Scientology involvement, he lets his fans make excuses and then avoids talking about it. He says he's "jewish," which is another non answer since he is of Jewish extraction. The guy plays people like a violin. Gaiman never denies his involvement in Scientology.

  • I think I'd like to read those interviews.

The guy's an author--he lies for a living. Of course he's going to 'play' people.

  • People aren't playthings, Thingy. Good writers use fiction to create truth. Bad writers can't be bothered with the truth, emotional or otherwise. It's interesting you say that Gaiman lies for a living, as if that's a free ticket to lie about everything in his life no matter how destructive or damaging. Are you giving Gaiman a free pass to fund dangerous Cult that hurts countless people and lives? Gaiman should stand for something deeper than his wallet.

  • If he doesn't think about it then he isn't one. It's pretty hard to be a christian or scientlogist without thinking about the freaken religion....

use your brain, you have no proof of anything, grow up and stop trolling.

  • Are you insane, Warwize, or just a pathetic Scientology flunkie defending your overlord? Gaiman's silence on Scientology might as well be a scream. Neil Gaiman funds Scientology. He is listed in Scientology completions for all to see. Gaiman wants to play it both ways, funding Scientology and getting tax deductions for a phony religion and at the same time slipping under the radar so he's not associated with a silly, space alien worshipping cult. Go write another knowledge report, Warwize.

  • (though don't worry, I do believe Scientology is a dangerous cult.)

  • his dad was a scientologist, he isn't.

  • Neil Gaiman's family are ALL heavy-weight Scientologists. Father David Gaiman died on 4/7/09 was a co-conspiritor in Operation Snow White & was actively recruiting in Russia. Neil's sister Claire Edwards is an executive in Scientology Missions International (recruiting end of Scientology), wife Mary Gaiman is listed"clear" in 2002, Mother Sheila Gaiman is OT8. Other sister Lizzie Calcione runs a Scientology practice in East Grinstead. Don't be naive, Gaiman is a Scieno in good standing.

  • Man what the hell did you do to your hair?

  • liza is short 4 elizabeth...

  • I love this book!

And it's funny because my mother used to always say that to me too..."The dead can't hurt you, only the living can".

I even started crying when Scarlett said she didn't trust Bod anymore and that he was a monster! Again, great story! =D xxx♥♥♥xxx
