IMO the Jets should have their alternate uniforms be the ones the Sack Exchange wore in the 80's, i like those ones a lot more than the ones they wear now.
ALL PRO in 3 different positions...Hall of Fame committee fall in love with flash and numbers...sometimes a HOF player is more than that, hence Joe Klecko.
Love the commercial where he yells at the fish and they all jump in the boat :) I'm a RAIDER fan but will always be fond of Klecko and still remember that 82 playoff game when they came into L.A. and cleaned house on my RAIDERS. Speaking of Raiders they are out of the playoffs so gooooooo JETS!
@myfriendscool6793 Lmao im sorry but you think Wayne Chrebet should be in the hall of fame??? plz hook me up wit some of whatever ur smokin! lmfao hahaha ooooo that was a good laugh
@mpj32587 lmfao...Wayne chrebet was good...but who in their right mind said he should be in the HOF??? Must be a Jets fan....Klecko on the other hand deserves to be there!
@quincee33 Idk some guy said that Chrebet deserves to be in the HOF so yea hes obviously just a Jets fan lmao. And i agree with you that Joe Klecko should be in the HOF idk why he isn't, its a travesty.
@mpj32587 no, i found it his last name was salaam....does that ring a bell? who knows maybe they had a few guys over the years of klecko and gastineau
@quincee33 Oh Abdul Salaam, he played RDT, LDT and NT from 1976-83 with the Jets. When he was drafted in 76' his name was Larry Faulk. But then he changed it to Abdul Salaam in 1977, which means "servant of peace" because he wanted serenity in his life.
@quincee33 Yup. Marty Lyons was #93, Abdul Salaam was #74. Joe Klecko was #73 and Mark Gastineau was #99. Idk if you knew this or not but Mark Gastineau used anabolic steroids in the mid 80's. He had 22 sacks in 1984, the single season record until Michael Strahan broke his record with 22.5 in 2001.
@mpj32587 ya i remember him using steroids, and getting into trouble with the law....didn't he date bridgette Neilson too? when he came to Canada and play, he was washed up and pushed around like a rag doll ....sad, but he was awesome in his prime.
When indomitable Joe Klecko recorded 20.5 sacks in 1981 he played the latter part of year on a badly sprained foot. He had great strength, good quickness&never let up. He was chief broker on Sack Exchange, explosive, very strong and super competitive. After being out for most of 1982 and having knee surgery before 1983 season, he lost some speed and lateral movement. But he was still extremely quick, strong and relentless,so they switched him from RE to LT,and tireless Joe benefited from the move
Late in 1984, after overcoming some initial tentativeness in recovering from another knee surgery, Klecko was voted to the Pro Bowl & looked good in his stint at NT. So the next year, though preferring DE, Joe ended up on the nose. That year, the Jets ranked 3rd in NFL in run defense(94.8 yards)an improvement of 35 yards a game. Jets defense held opponents to a 32.7% 3rd-down conversion rate, NFL's 5th-best. All of that came without Gastineau in the starting lineup until the 5th game of the year.
That 1985 year,Klecko overcame the knocks that moving into the nose would end his career, played with more pain(again),yet made himself into a true inside power rusher. With great low strength & very good hands,Klecko overpowered the finesse centers and wrestled the muscle men to standoffs. His 96 tackles were best for Jet lineman and still found time to get to QB for 7.5 sacks.Despite 2 years of knee problems, this heavyweight battler still had a concussive first step and was as strong as a bear
ridiculous he's not in Canton-he personified what being a football player was -a true man-the NFL should hold him as an example to these new millionaire kids what being a football player is all about
Klecko and Gastineau are my two favorites. Gastineau held one of the most impressive NFL records from 1984 to 2001 with 22 sacks in a season! And he isn't good enough for the HOF?
How good was the Sack Exchange? Too bad sacks weren't kept until 1981...i mean, 20 1/2 sacks as a DEFENSIVE TACKLE!?!?! 53 1/2 from your front four alone? That makes for easy living in a secondary when your front four averages 13 1/2 sacks a man! As a fan of the game...it's too bad Joe Klecko never got his just due. The guy was a warrior and a helluva football player even after dealing with a TON of injuries
Actually.....sacks did not become an official stat until 1982, but your point is still completely valid. NYSE is still one of the best and most underrated D-Lines of all-time.
Joe klecko lives right down the block from me, and i go to school with his son he is the man. He gives me all this signed Klecko stuff for free. Hee is awesome!!!!!
One of the Best Nosetackles of all time Set the standard for All Nosetackles after him. The man was double team most of the time and still got to the QB. Great slant style approch to attack the center. Copy it in my playing days. Even with todays nose tackles they just don't match up to Joe. Should be in the Hall of Fame. Period.
The slant style, or "angle", revolutionized the nose guard position. Every nose guard uses it now. I remember when he first used it, against the great Dwight Stephenson of the Dolphins. Klecko manhandled and confused the greatest center of alltime with that stance! He would run Stephenson right into Marino, who started going shotgun after that!
What an AWESOME guy !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love Joe Klecko to death, but telling your son not to celebrate and at the same time your teammate does (Gastineau) is a bit hypocritical.

Put Joe Klecko in Canton.
No one had more heart than him.
He did it all and was All-Pro at three defensive positions.
He would not be stopped.
Joe was the defense and put fear in the NFL.
I know.
I'm a Giants fan.
