Maybe the kid just wanted to learn. My oldest wanted to learn that young... could read music by 2 1/2. We didn't take it real seriously, though. I wish we had've. Now she's an amazing french horn player with little interest in piano. My next one played "Ode to Joy" by ear when she was barely 2... no lessons ever, just heard me play frequently. I let her play around with the "by ear" thing until she was 8. I regret that now. She's very good, but could be much better if we hadn't waited.
