Ahmedinijad has a strong voter base amongst the working classes (large in Iran, non-represented abroad) whereas the other person amongst the upper middles classes (small in Iran, large and vocal abroad). And considering that Ahmedinejad plays to the western bogeyman image (to the west and his own ill-educated voter base), he is the west's best friend anyway.
