There are things both the Democratic and Republican parties won't touch. They are both working toward some agendas. The difference being 1/3 of the Dems are corrupt and roughly over 3/4 of the Republicans are in the pockets of Corporate interests.

This is what is called a "straw man" argument. The repubicans in congress have not offered any such legislation. Obama and the democrats are running on a phony issue because they think you're stupid.

It would be MORE accurate if the republicans were to say the democrats want to bring back the draft because actual legislation has been offered by democrat congressmen (Charlie Rangel) to do just that. Not so with Social Security.

@dentester If you're saying the Republicans didn't offer legislation to fix Social Security, you seriously need to check your facts. There are several of them that came out and said - look - the Government is broke - we need to cut people benefits and raise the retirement age to 70. And the reason why they're saying that is because they spent the money, and filled a drawer with IOU's. All the money needs to be accounted for, and it needs to be taken out of their hands.

As a young college student, the government takes money out of my paycheck for social security and medicare, knowing full well that when I retire, they will not be able to give me back a dime. Unlike a real investment, the president and congress steal your money and use it to pay for the War in Iraq, bailing out AIG, etc. Social Security is no different than Bernie Madoff's Ponzi Scheme.

When you've got politicians constantly lying to the American people about the state of Social Security, they can no longer be trusted to handle our money. @hikonejo Well, you're wrong on all counts. If you really want to understand why privatization will never happen is that it takes money away from government. The government has proven they are worthless when it comes to handling our money, they cannot keep track of billions of dollars...why? A private company has to abide by laws and regulations and the government just ignores them. Privatization would actually save social security where-as the way it is now, you and I will never see it.
