  • Dude I think it sounds great.

  • hey man good stuff..right, ill start with the software...have you thought about going bigger because garage band is compact and only so much you can do with it...2, there is too much distance between the toms and the over heads..either lower the over heads closer to the drums or by individual mics for the drums...with the money you are spending with the sound cards/interfaces i think it would be more advisable just to get a usb mixing desk...good luck in the future..inbox me if you need anything

  • what kind of interface did you use?

  • I bet that would sound 1,000x better with an xy technique minus the cheap snare mic, works for my pair of sm58>xenyx 1002>old desktop pc

  • It definitely does NOT sound pro. But the toms don't sound like they were close miked either. I heard lots of room sound.

  • @Johnfrooshlover no shit sherlock. It's in a bedroom. overheads with verb. kick. snare.

  • @ohyourface22 ....I was responding to other comments.... aidanyoubeterreply : "dude, those drums sounds pro. those mics dont seem bad at all!" And djnovox86 : "obviously a fake...toms sounds like they are close miked...addictive drums of course..." Please read other comments before looking at the newest one and replying to it.

  • what kind of ride do you have?

  • obviously a fake...toms sounds like they are close miked...addictive drums of course...

  • my mic setup is 20 dollars, and it sounds way better than this.

  • Excellent sound!, how do you get 4 ins with that firebox? with the s/pdif? thanx for the video

  • its really the pre amps that help. thankfully my mixer has built pre amps which are AMAZING quality!!! and how you eq them really make the difference

  • sounds sweet, i'd go for a little less trebble on the snare and if those dynamics are so cheap get another 2 for your toms and your set!

  • @TrSYeTi buy protools which comes with a basic m box. good starting point....

  • i like it for the price!!! of it!!

  • Thanks bro, sounds real good, now I have some direction

  • I hear Addictive Drums ;) No way of misjudging that one,

  • whats phantom power?

  • @MrStockholmz

it a swith which supplys 48v to condencer mics so they can be used

  • Sounds good to me... Drums and Mics both.

  • The mxl 990 is no slouch. Those are great mics for the price. Some high quality mic cables don't hurt either.

  • If thats how crappy mics sound, think how good mics will sound!!!

  • looks like you've got a lot of comments to respond to

  • You're able to record 4 inputs at a time with the firebox?

  • Nice Sound. I have both the MXL 990 and the MXL 991 and if you are looking to expand your set up the mxl 991 works great for overheads or hi hat mics. It is a little more clear and focused than the 990 but a has a little less bass and mid response.

  • i dont understand did u just say u dont play drums?

  • that is a really good drum sound dude, good job.

in my opinion it is better than almost any i have heard on youtube even the ones with 20 mics and 10000 dollar equipment

  • hello you are an inspiration... so correct me if i'm wrong but you use the presonus for the two overheads?

and for the two black art tube preamps would you recommend getting a few if I just wanted to mic the toms, snare, and bass? Or do you use the overheads for that?

  • How are the pre-amps connected to your computer? Via USB? Because I really need a setup like this. Right now I am using a desktop mic and a SHURE SM-57.

  • You can tune drums anyway you want stop saying they are out of tune they don't sound that bad anyway

  • it sounds good, real good! would like to hear them dry though

  • i have an mbox 2, can you record with 4 mics using the art preamps? because i want to record drums but 2 mics doesnt really cut it. Can i go into pro tools with an mbox and the art preamps and get to use 4 mics? and how?

  • Its all in those overheads! good job for a couple hundred bucks!

  • hay dude. im thnkin of starting a small studio. was wondering how you have gone from the 3 interfaces to the computer. Thanks h

  • sick. sounds great, thanks

  • If you arent a drummer why do you have an a custom ride

  • I think it sounds great, you just need to tune the snare and you're bass

  • Congratulations bro! with low budget you could get a very very nice sound.

  • your kick is out of tune.

  • dude, this sounds very very good!

  • This is Gold, those Samson mics are $15 w/ free shipping on eBay! Comes with a cable as well. Not a bad alternative when you can't put a SM57 on everything.

  • that sounds pretty good considering your quality of mics..

  • HAH! NOT BAD! Way to make everything work! Sounds good.

  • It doesn't sound good, it sounds less than average, who cares if it was cheap. Drums are not something that can be average and covered in the mix. Cheap stuff is a waste of money in the long run, especially cheap mics.

  • sounds fucking AMAZING for the setup

  • Sounds excellent for that money!

  • For overheads, do you prefer the 990s to pencil mics such as the 991s? Ive been using two 991s and a 990 for a room mic, wondering if i should get another 990 and use them as over heads?

  • dude, those drums sounds pro. those mics dont seem bad at all!

  • The snare sounds fine for what it is. You WANT some overtones or else it sounds like a box w/wires on it. I guarantee if you heard those drums in a mix w/other instruments they'd be just fine w/a little more tweaking.

And regarding the comment about not getting enough toms w/this set up: you can get a sufficient amount of toms for most situations with some EQ and compression to even it out.

  • man honestly im just getting into this so i might be wrong, but your kick sounds weak, and the snare and hat feel like theyre a million miles away. not trying to be a troll, but Ive been hearing this alot, so im wondering whether thats supposed to happen or not. i always thought engineers try to get their drums to sound like real life but I keep hearing professionals make their kit sound edited.

  • Horrible ringing on the snare! keep those MXls though, they are decent enough vocal/guitar mics for what they are!

  • Comment removed

  • hah *claps hands* at the person who was un-inteligent enough to give a thumbs down!

  • Skills to your ear and your post processing skills! To me the main difference is that cheaps mics generally work for a smaller range of instruments than expensive mics. A really nice clean and balanced sound you got there. Good job!

  • this sounds great. i allways use too many mics for all my toms, everything bleeds together and sounds like crap. ill sell my tom mics and get some decent overheads i guess. cheers man. keep drumming too, your off to a good start

  • Not bad man I dig it. I also saw a MXL 990 "stereo" mic on their website. Not sure of the cost though. But I got the 990/991 combo and the ART preamp, not bad stuff for some Rock n Roll...

  • the only problem with this setup is that u never get enough toms

  • how do you get the multi tracks on garage band? and how do you have the preamps wired into your mac

  • you click the record button on each track (the 1st one next to the mute and headphones button) then you can record multi tracks

  • Not bad at all considering the mics, hell i've heard the sure kick mic and your one actually sounds a whole lot better haha

  • Wow that sounds pretty damn good.

  • Nice sound ! Great job with those mics !

  • how do you get the seperate tracks on garageband? How did you dampen your kick?

  • the newer Garageband actually supports multitracking. I didn't realize til i saw this video either.

  • wait u run your over heads to the m box y not thru a a drum module but the sound isn't bad

  • nice job man when i first looked at the mics you were using i thought there was no way but that sounded pretty good! might have to try a setup like this out!:D

  • I hear a lot of sound from the lower part of the snare , how did you do with that setup? , I like how it sounds

  • My Dude, Either You Are Using Samples Or Thats A Bomb Ass Setup, I Give Props.

I May Have To Try This As A Secondary Recording Setup.

  • It sounded better than a lot of studios with very expensive equipment.

    it's not the Arrow it's the Indian....lol!

  • Damn decent!

  • Ive got an MXL 990, as u say, its pretty decent for being cheap.

I usually use mine on Acoustic Guitar, but Ive had a decent Vocal sound from them, especially if a decent Pre Amp is used

    Nice vid =)

  • peavey studio pro in the background as I could see ?? :) nice man:)

  • hi, i have dru microphones for recording and the i dont have enough midi cable slots on my mixer to fit is ther some type of thing i can buy where all the midi cables go into to one interface then 1 midi cable comes out of it then that goes into the mixer?

  • those over heads are really nice and ur right those samsons do have really bad sensitivity cuzz it sounds like everythings coming from the overheads but it sounds pretty good
