Reawakens the feel of loading up the car with a GF and a cooler full of cold ones and cruising down to the TX Gulf Coast Crystal beach, enjoying the warm sun, and cool waves! Ah, life was worry free and fun!
memories of driving to wasaga beach every weekend.. and the Arlington Hotel in Collingwood, Diesel never played there.. byt Goddo, Stark Naked and the Fleshtones, Crimes of Passion, FM with Nash the Slash did.. too bad it burned down
Man, I was so young when this hit the airwaves. I loved the lyrics - who couldn't relate to taking a road trip in a less-than-roadworthy heap of a car? However, it took a long time before I found the name of the artist (Diesel). One of the very best of the one-hit wonders.
My dad had a '65 Rambler in Tennessee. That poor thing ran EXACTLY like the song says. The thermostat location and design was at fault. That car would continually overheat and the engine knocked so bad the whole car would shake like it was in an earthquake. Ah, good times........
I lived in Winnipeg when this came out in june 1981.... it reminds me of going up to all the great beach comunities on the south basin of lake Winnipeg especially grand beach.....recently bought the whole watts in a tank album from puretracks..the folks at rhino records did a great job of remastering it ....my fav summer song...if your engine is thumping like a disco..try a can of STP ,,works for me
This song is so awesome, I can't believe I found it on YOU TUBE. Technology is so cool. You people at YOU TUBE do such a great job. Thank you. Please continue.
I lived in Maryland at the time this song hit the airwaves and wished that my parents had decided to move to California instead of New Jersey before I was born. I could've been born in Anaheim instead of Trenton.....THANKS :P~~~~
Im a runner..and this song is always on my playlist when the run gets the hardest..... the power of music on the human psyche is limitless.... This track is definitely not for the laid back and would clearly not be used as an Anthem for Quaalude Users.... ;) Awesome music !!!
I LOVE THIS SONG!......................here you go 4kq this is tailor made for your station. this should have been released in australia and would have gone top 10. i've only heard it once and it has got hit written all over it. i expect you to start playing this song straight away whilst i hunt down some more songs for you. you can thank me later.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! TAKES ME AWAY!!! AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT IT!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! GO DIESEL!!!!!!! Ba BA BAAAAA- SAUSALITO SUMMERNIGHTS!! ...WiSh i CoULD Go BaCK In TiME AnD HaNG WiTH DiESEL!!!
FIESTA.
@quincee33 There were actually two cars called 'Rambler' - one made by Nash in the 50s, the other by AMC in the 60s. The one from the song is the AMC Rambler. AMC cars I've seen from the 60s and 70s seem to have used a number of Chrysler parts which is why many people think they were mfg'd by Chrysler. AMC also made the Javelin, Matador, Pacer and Gremlin - few of which appear to have survived beyond the 80s.
@WolfBrat Thx. i feel sorry for AMC, they came out with cars that had 4WD and they went bankrupt...now Subaru offers AWD as a selling feature.....poor timing i guess.
@yrtuag awe, good ole AMC the home of the JEEP. And also all those ugly AWD cars they had like the Eagle. I feel sorry for AMC, they came up with cars that have 4wd and went out of business, now Subaru has cars that have awd and they are a selling point. i guess AMC was ahead of it's time. That and they made junk, lol.
@quincee33 Yeah! What was more ugly than the matador. You could possibly make the case the Javelin was kind of cool w/ 304cid. but that's about it I think. Didn't a piece of AMC survive in AM General? Not sure about that but I think I heard it somewhere.
@yrtuag ya the Javelin was pretty cool. and the Gremlin was powerful but ugly. i think Chrsyler just bought AMC for JEEP, and good move by them...JEEP will always be around...
@quincee33 I had a cousin who had a Gremlin man! ugly as sin. The Javelin I had in mind belonged to my auto mech's teacher's son in high school. He brought it into the shop to be worked on. Jeep is an American icon,I wasn't too happy when it ended up in the hands of Daimler Chrysler. Would have rather a wholey owned American co. own the brand.
