  • eargasm!

  • for me this is the best cover from whole album ... jeff´s voice has always been very unique ... and yngwie did it his own way :)

  • Jeff Scott Soto on vocals?

  • @wfelix1977 Yep. Awesome as always.

  • it's not fucking tribute to DIO ! it's tribute to R.B RAINBOW ! !!

  • @666Vlada666 You can't read or what. It's written on the cover. "HOLY DIO, A TRIBUTE TO THE VOICE OF METAL, RONNIE JAMES DIO"

  • @666Vlada666 yea smart guy Dio was with rainbow for a little while thats why they tribute a Rainbow song with Dio in it

  • i love it ,

  • I really LIKE this cover!!!!!

  • There's a studio version of this on one of Malmsteen's albums, much better.

I didn't know this was a Dio song though. Legends all of them.

  • good effort by yngwie but Blackmore has the heart and soul everytime x

  • I don't like Yngwie, I think he is good but nothing special.

I don't think that anyone from this line-up is special, but they made this cover much better than original.

  • man is that dio singing or who is that? hes got a hell of a voice.

  • @Burkules47 jeff scott soto....awesome singer

  • steve vai make love with the guitar while yngwie... he raped the guitar whoooohoooooo!!!!! lol!!!! long live the king he killed!! whatever that means!! hahahahah!!!

  • the guitar solo is fuckin amazing

  • When you listen to this, you realize how good Dio was 'cause this is a fairly good cover of the song and still it only reaches Dio to the knees (ironically)! Unfortunately Yngwie never learned to not overdo the solos :P

  • @MrPianoman84 Ah yeah Yngwie is overplaying personified, but this is a damn good cover. I hate it when he does his weird Bon Jovi type tunes (except the power ballads are quite nice). This is the good stuff, the original vocals are slightly better, as the production but this is really nice!

  • @Whyrendog Hehe, very true about Yngwie ^^ I've never become a big fan of him because of the overplaying, but of course I realize he's amazing on the guitar! About the vocals here, I think it's almost impossible to outsing Dio. That being said, there are other fantastic vocalists, but Dio was in the top class so it's difficult to find similar quality. As said, I think it's a good cover but Gates of Babylon is one of my fav Rainbow-songs so it's just almost ^^

  • OH MY YNGWIE THIS IS THE SHIT.

  • heard this verision of gates of babylon when i were little on an mp3 CD with over 300 yngwie malmsteen song. but this one totally took me in to a world full of burning guitars and brutal awsomness! <3

  • From God to God

  • this music marked all my guitar ways

  • Awesome song :-) :-)

  • Omg guys check this out......youtube.com/watch?v=4CnZ_foPUJ4

So what do you think Yngwie Malmsteen or Pellumb Qerimi ? ...... !!!

  • Granted, this is only a cover. But...why couldn't malmsteen have kept this kind of sound? This tribute is actually badass, sounds similar to his playing on rising force and marching out. The only real bummer was fire and ice, then the seventh sign came out and gave us all orgasms. After 7th sign? There really hasn't been anything Yngwies done thats blown my balls back like 'brothers' or 'icarus dream suite opus 5'.Needs to read up on a sex handbook to figure out how to make me satisfied again :)

  • Jeff Scott Soto on vocals! :]

  • tribute to blackmore NOT DIO

  • @Antoblackterror I dont think you got the point...

  • @Antoblackterror Dio was in what? a dozen bands? the album has covers of songs spanning his career, Cause lets face it "A tribute to Elf, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, and Dio while fronted by Ronnie James Dio" is a really long, and overly expository title. This song is a tribute to RJD, in as much as it was a single that he sang.

  • this is work of the king blackmore

  • No one tops Ritchie Blackmore.

  • A magic carpet ride, a genie, maybe more!

  • Ok Yngwie Malmsteen disappointed me here not at least basing the beginning of the solo in a harmonic minor mode.Lazy just bashing us with the same old runs that i'm tired of hearing applied over and over to any situation which did not fit or sound right here?.he put alot of effort in the rest of this cover which overall is great.

  • Yngie prince of guitar!! epic song

  • this is not (tribute to Dio) this is tribute to Rainbow !

  • malmsteen's cover is much better than the original.

  • @MrEllinaras you are insane? any cover would be better than original stuff cuz the original its better covers only is a little cahnges on the song but cant be better than original

  • all of his solos sound strangely similar but he is still amazing and the 2nd best metal guitarist behind buckethead. But Yngwie, Buckethead and Adrian Smith(Iron Maiden, because he can solo like a madman) should get together and have there own G3.

herman lee sucks balls compared to them or even to a squirl on meth running on a guitar because that is what ith sounds like when he plays.

  • @andrewsoccer812 lol G3 was to the best exponent of shred on guitar so its was be yngwie, sitriani and vai...

  • @masterseven95 Im just saying that those three would be an excellent trio with each one having their own distinct sound

  • Omg true epic badassness!!!

  • Epic Cover!!!!

  • Dude! ok look I was searching on youtube Helloween and then i found some shit called Everyone like cathleen that sound like shit if you want look fot it on youtube ........when i heard that i think How does that mediocre group can play?

  • yngwie is a fuckin legend folks look up to the master

  • this is weird but i think this cover has more power than the original more heavier

love the original but yngwie malmsteen is my fuckin religon

  • Ritchie Blackmore Rainbow,,,,,,,,,,,,,living legend..

  • This song is great, but I gotta agree with many other commentators; sometimes just because you 'can' go ape-shit with a solo to blow someones mind doesn't necessarily mean Malmsteen 'should'.

Despite that though, Dio is done proud here, as he has been by many other artists.

  • @PriestOfFilm i agree, BUT, it wouldn't be yngwie unless he did...and what would be the point of having a title of yngwie on there when he would be playing the same as another would? honestly...yngwie sould be put in the dictionary defined as another word for 'ape shit' lol

  • @bcoklay True; that's Yngwie Malmsteen. Ape-shit guitarist god of solo'ing.

  • @PriestOfFilm yeah man its freakin outrageous the stuff he thinks of

  • Is this the version which also was on "Inspiration"?

  • Know that´s an epic version of Gates of Babylon. till know I´ve only heard the live one.

    R.I.P. Dio

  • PS The track was already done and then included on this album way before Dio was ill RIP RJD

  • BEST COVER ON THE ALBUM

  • From one musical genius to another...

  • the Dio will take you away!

No, really. Who do you _think_ sits on the throne of darkness now?

    \../

  • Jeff Scott Soto is a really good singer, listen to the works he done in the past with Mr Malmsteen. and I agree with "uofm97" it would be nice to hear this song, without all the "Malmsteen" flash...I know he can do this without flashing with the guitar, but does HE know it ;)

  • R.I.P. Dio

  • As Ritchie said, Yngwie can play all that I can but I can´t play anything that he can.

    Dio rules.

  • wow. this is good. he's a good guitarist, and the singer is quite good too

  • ONE OF THE FEW MALMSTEEN' COVERS THAT ACTUALLY IS VERY GOOD,NO TO OVER PLAYING OVER THE VOCALS,OR DESTROING THE ORIGINAL MELODIE.GREAT SING TOO.

  • Malmsteen + feeling = blackmore

  • Yeah gotta love soto´s voice so fucking powerful .P ronnie is ronie but this just rocks so much :P

  • i personally like this betterr than the original

  • This would be perfect for a Prince of Persia game.

  • @T3hJax then it would be the TOP SELLING game for over a decade!!

    =DDDDD

  • @T3hJax beyond perfect

  • does anyone know where to get this?!?!

  • @TrboThndrCybrgLama itunes, amazon etc.

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Perfect! I've always wanted to listen to a metal version of gates of babylon! This version is awesome!

  • @amazingatheistdiddle I like some yngwie´s songs, but your comment is totally true.

  • who is singing on this?

  • @truegreenbuds hey truegreenbuds...the vocalist is Jeff Scott Soto !

  • GOOD FUCKING GOD !!!! PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP . WHY COMPARE THE TWO?? THIS IS A TRIBUTE REMEMBER.??? HOLY SHIT !! REALLY WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOUR OPINION ANYWAYS ?? TWO VERY DIFFERENT GUITAR PLAYERS ONE IS NOT TRYING TO COPY THE OTHER, ITS A FUCKING TRIBUTE DUMB ASS. THESE COMMENTS ON YOU TUBE ALWAYS ARE A FUCKING JOKE. DUMB ASS KIDS WHO THINK THEY KNOW WHATS UP OR TRYING TO TALK LIKE THEY DO. PLEASE GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. WHAT MOM BOUGHT YOU A CHEAP ELECTRIC GUITAR?

  • @ronlutes Your right covers mean they respect the artist they are a influence to them and its sad to compare them they cover it because they love the music.. too

  • @ronlutes No shit, I hear you...........and couldn't of said it any better myself

  • Dio is better than anything in the world, but this still is a really great cover!

  • This cover is awesome

  • who the fuck would dislike this? this is one of the most awesomely assembled musical masterpieces of all time you fuckers

  • I think this great. The vocals are great and obviously has the chops to sing this. No one will sing anything Dio did like Dio, so people need to stop griping about little stuff like inflections. Yngwie can play anything Blackmore has written, so no worries there, though I wish he'd remained faithful to the original solo just a little bit more. Bass and drums are spot-on, too.

  • @uofm97 I thought the same thing but look up the tv crimes cover by Monsters of Metal

  • @uofm97Who is singing this

    ?

  • @danno5662 One guy a few comments down says it's Jeff Scott Soto. I thought it was Mark Boals. the only way I can acutally know is to buy this album and see. This album was released late last year, so I can't see why it wouldn't be Tim "Ripper" Owens, who is Yngwie's current vocalist.

  • @uofm97

It's Scott Soto, song was originally released in middle of 90-ties on cd "Inspiration" of Malmsteen. Lot's of cover and fastest solos in the world. I was 18 then and I used to love it. Not anymore... but still like to listen from time to time.

  • @MrVegetable78 That's what I was thinking, thank you. I think I got this mixed up with a song he did for the Dio thing that came out this year with Yngwie, Blind Guardian and bunch of others covering songs from all parts of his career.

  • @uofm97 Dude probably You know NOTHING ABOUT METAL!!! it's clearly Soto and no one else!!! Ripper has a totally different voice than Soto and Boals too. Please, study a little bit more, buy the album, train your ear and stop say bullshits! I'm still wonderin' how is possible to confuse Tim and Boals with Soto. STUDY STUDY STUDY AND STUDY, DIO CRISTO CHE TE GA FATO!!! p.s.: the album was released in 2000!!! the song is taken from 1996 Malmsteen "inspiration" album !!! You said another BULLSHIT!!!

  • @edwarner84 Dude, get over yourself. I don't have the fucking album so I asked. I wasn't sure when this was recorded, but I did hear it before. Go read my first comment, buddy. I was aware that there was a new Dio tribute album out and Yngwie is on it. All I asked that person who responded MATURELY was if this was a new recording or the one he did 10 years ago. I DID NOT STATE ANYTHING AS BEING FACT, SO GO FUCK YOURSELF! Goddamn, I hate you assholes who do nothing but start shit with people.

  • @uofm97 It is definitely jeff scott soto. This album was released in 1996 before ripper was well known. This has nothing to do wiht Dio per se the content on the album was Yngwie's inspiration. ie Hendrix,Scorpions, Kansas etc.

  • @martyjiunta lol.......I asked that question months ago. That got straightened out back then, but thanks anyway. AT the time, the new Dio tribute had just come out and I'd asked if this was the '96 recording or the new one the Yngwie did for the 2010 album. I then asked if this was Jeff or some other singer who sounds similar and then some guy chose to be a dick about it, way after the question had already been answered. I do thank you for not being like that other guy and just answered.

  • @uofm97 Jeff Soto Scott will ;D

  • @uofm97 He's yngwie malmsteen... you really think hes gonna stay true to the original solo??? ;) hahah

  • @TheMetalFAN54 Honestly? No, not really! lol. The man has to show off his stuff every chance he gets.......and why not? Who else can consistently blow everybody's minds? :)

  • @TheMetalFAN54 that'd be like asking a typhoon to be a rain cloud.

  • @uofm97 no i dot agree with you blackmore is a master of guitarplaying almost impossible to play the riffs he did play malmsteen is great but sometimes too fast and no harmonys in his playing and not such a good feeling like blackmore used to have.DIO is unique in his own way his voice was out of this world only some other rocksingers could sing like him like Klaus Meine from the Scorpions.anyway enjoy this piece of music here.

  • @lovemaker1972 Okay, he didn't go note-for-note and did a few of his own things, mostly in the solo, but Yngwie did play the important stuff like the verse parts exactly. I did point that out, by the way, and I stand by the rest of it. Anyway, this was a good cover and I do like it. There's horrible renditons out there and this wasn't one of them.

  • COME ON ALL ......ITS ROCK N ROLL ,,, THEY ARE ARE NURSING US BUT WITH DIFFERENT BOTTLES ... AND I LOVE IT.

  • I don't wanna be a troll, but Rainbow's version is way better

  • @DeTruZion Its a cover all original versions are better than covers

  • @dloyug true, but not entirely

I like Aerosmith's cover of "Come together" which was originally created by the Beatles, a lot more than the original. Buuuuuut, the guitar is jsut beast in this one

  • Damn nice try on Singing this. Is it just me or can Dio never be replaced?

  • I prefer Dio's vocals much more, but Yngwie literally annihilates Blackmore here.

  • @TacticOgre annihilates in which way? positive or negative??

  • @TacticOgre Well Yngwie doesn't annihilate Blackmore, they're both freaking awesome. Don't be hating on other metal bands, hate on Kanye West, he's a dick

  • Does anyone know if this song and Dream On are featured on any Yngwie or Dio album??

  • YNGWIE THE BEST GUITAR PLAYER IN HISTORY. (+ STEVE VAI)

DIO BEST SINGER EVER WE LOVE YOU DIO AND WE LOVE YOU STEVE AND YNGWIEEEEE

    U GUYS ARE THE BEST!

GREAT COVER BY THE WAY THE SINGER HITS ALL THE NOTES IN A MAGISTRAL WAY!!!

  • hey all musicans out there go and die here is yngiwe the master of all masters

  • @ABrandNewName1 no a mix of 10s 9s and 8s.

  • jeff scot soto and yngwie rule together

  • Equally as good as the original in my opinion, the Middle Eastern-esque guitar at the beginning just makes the song.

  • the whole cd is fuckin great. all of the covers are top notch

  • bellissimo

  • @metallero037 gracias lo se soy muy bello

  • Yngwie is awesome but someone needs to keep him away from the donuts

  • WAUW. R.I:P you hungarian wallnut

  • Is it Malmsteen on vocals? Wow... Great surprise! I realy like this song in this version!

  • @Aleciomf This is Jeff Scott Soto on vocals, Yngiwe wish's he could sing like that haha. Jeff went on to sing for Axel Rudi Pell as well as others.

  • @Aleciomf It's Jeff Scott Soto on vocals.

  • Yngwie is the god of music Metal or otherwise. Dio is kickass too ofcourse.

  • I FUCKING LOVE SITAR!!!!!

  • that's why i like yngwie, who understand 'bout guitar will agree. yngwie play fast as those neoclassical, but, he invented this style, he plays with very thick strings and he plays fast with a nylon strings acoustic guitar. diferent of all those neo classicals that use strings that appear seam line, max distortion and pro tools...so easy playing like this....do as yngwie, i dare ya!

  • LOL @ guys saying that Yngwie doesn't play with feelings, soulless and other bunch of crap.

Playing fast doesn't mean you don't play with soul or feelings, you can also express feelings by playing fast.. You are just hating because you can't play at Yngwie's level, fuckin whiners.

    BTW. YJM's vibrato is godly.

  • i like malmsteens voice

  • un gran disco tributo sin duda

  • who does the vocals in thisone?love his voice...

  • @steveharrismetalgod Jeff Scott Soto

  • single best cover out of this whole album imo!...the voice and guitar sound mach perfectly with the original!

  • MALMSTEEN ON SITAR????

  • Responder a este vídeo... awsome, realy plain awsome

  • Guys respect for Ronnie james Dio and respect for Malmsteen..those guys are just great..they have offered us lovely music..!!!

  • rest in peace DIO .......

  • there are manny som comment here about this particular version of Gates of Babylon, Soto here sings amazing, I Always dreamt that Dio could jump in stage with Yngwie and burn the world down, but "the wise" Ronnie explained well, Dio is(was) a band, and with Malmsteen is not a band, is him and 4 guys who play with, everyone replaceble and expendable.

  • I am looking for the songs that Ann Boleyn (Hellion) did with Yngwie? If you know, e-mail me.

  • yngwie malmsteen is one of the best guitarists ever but for me ritchie blackmore is the master because he knows when to stop playing a solo and not keep going for ever its yngwies only flaw otherwise he rules

  • Malmsteen is may be the world's best STRING PLAYER /not only guitar/, but this is not enough! What Ritchie has and Yngwie does not is THE CONSTRUCTION. Ritchie always has 4 elements ENTRANCE, EXPOSITION, INTERMEDIA /if you go to 3:34 you will understand what I mean/, EXIT. He is unbeatable in this. Again YNGWIE IS SMASHING, BUT THIS IS STILL NOT ENOUGH.

  • damn!!!is yngwie singing?????

  • @Maniac4BrianJohnson No. No Yngwie on vocals. I think it is Mark Boals or Mike Vescera

  • @heryblax i will find out and post it :) i am pretty sure it is yngwie!

  • @heryblax It's Jeff Scott Soto

  • @Maniac4BrianJohnson

    jeff scott soto

  • great tribute song thumbs up. R.I.P. Ronnie "King Of Metal" Dio

  • in what mode is this song????

  • @marinal0c0v I think this is Locrian. not entirely sure, though.

  • @Honkadelic7 Phrygian or Phrygian Dominant work well too, I find..!

  • Yngwie always a pleasure to hear!

  • this guy doesn't have that evil yet beautiful snarl that dios voice has

    awesome tune either way

  • Don´t get me wrong, Soto sings this GREATLY, but the epicness of Dio in the original can´t be matched....Not much to do with Soto at all really....But Dio = God.

    RIP

  • malmsteen on sitar????

  • who is the lead singer in this version?

  • @juvemu07 hi men teh singer is jeff scott soto

  • @marshalljmp50 thanks man =)

  • Holy fucking shit!

    fucking Awesome...

    So Great!

  • Heres yet another fine example of overplaying on the part of Ego Malmsteen. Blackmore created intensity with this solo by gradually building momentum within the context of the song, creating a middle eastern sound & conjuring desert like images that fit the storyline Dio originally concieved. Malmsteen jizzes all over it.

  • that was pretty bad ass. I love ritchie blackmores use of arabic scales. Yngwie is also good at those to.

  • obviously Rainbow is better, but stop bitchin people this is pretty awesome shit too

  • The Rainbow version epically wins over this...

  • I like it.

  • if you want to hear the same scales over n over hire Malmsteen & Van Halen, if you want to hear music hire Blackmore. This version sucks rotten donkey testicles.

  • i like how slow he takes it on the solo intro cool and with soul but leave this to blackmore

  • I guess you can´t beat Dio´s singing, but Jeff Scott Soto does a real good job.

I love his voice, mighty as hell just listen to the rock star songs that he sang, "stand up and shout" for instance.

  • I have been into into Malmsteen since the 80s and can appreciate what Malmsteen does here, but feel Blackmore's version better fits the song. I definately like this version, just not as much as with Blackmore.

On a side note Having met Malmsteen twice I can say he was an arrogant tool both times.

  • Yngwie played in alcatraz /gram bonnett /rainbow/ronnie james dio deep purple yes?.

  • I love Soto's performance. Very "Dioesque".

He deserves to be invited to Ronnie's live tribute (if Wendy decide to do one in the future).

    Long Live RJD!!!

  • i dont get why the whole world wants to put yngwie down. everyone played a part in putting guitar to where it is today. if there was no blackmore, there would be no yngwie. but remember boys and girls, no yngwie, no gilbert, petrucci or jason becker. no feel and no touch? id like to see someone put on a nice video showing a better vibrato than malmsteen. comparing is for kids.

  • @heptatonic When someone suggests ying has no feel I immediately dismiss them as ignorant fools talking out of there ass .the man on occasion positively drips with the stuff .however moderation and subtlety ? That's a different matter . I want to grab hold of him and shake him saying, for fuck sake ying we know you can play you dont have to prove it ever fucking solo.
