It was like they took a desktop Mac, stuck a battery in it and called it a portable. I'm glad Apple introduced the Powerbook 100 series after that monster, it was like night and day.

@RalphHyre It actually only ran on battery power, for some reason it didn't use A/C power. I've heard it's actually possible to repack the lead acid cells or replace them entirely with AA batteries. The Macintosh Portable has quite a following, a lot of people have modified them because it was a very flexible machine that could be easily taken apart.
Linux is decent for advanced users. However I find Windows 7 easiest to use and I've owned a Macbook pro and had a triple boot with Leopard, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I find my Macbook pro crashes ALOT less than any other PC I've ever had. Although Linux if you know what your doing, NEVER crashes. But the app support and bad interface turns me away....
I think most Apple Mac commercials are self-insulting, especially the PC VS Mac ads.... they almost deliberately open themselves up for immense ridicule over their stereotypical nature.. especially with Linux involving spoofs.

How come they didn't show the shot after she said "I don't know anything about computers either?" You know, where the guy's smile turns into a scowl as he curses in italian, "what a bitch, couldn't even tell me how to shut my computer off!"
haha it's so amazing how people found such large machines so amazing then. in 50 years people would be like OMG i can't believe people found I-Pods so cool! XD
Damn, look at the that laptop, fucking big and heavy. this shit can weight over 20 pounds. How the heck you could take something like that to travel? lol
Ad an owner of one of these, I can easily say your right! It weighs about 16lbs. But it does have a built-in handle, and it came with a carrying case.
HAHAHA did apple just call of their customers idiots? From my understanding apple doesn't really respect their customers, that or they assume their customers are retarded monkeys who cannot work their way around the most simplest of things.
If you were one of those smart PC users, you would have figured out that Apple is saying that anyone can use it, without knowing much about computers.
What's funny is that I received hate from 3 people, which was expected since I am in Apple territory. I did see that, but let's face it, if you can't even do some seriously simple things then you don't belong using a computer, which is why I don't like Apple, it's a dumbed down--don't think that's a proper phrase--version of a computer, but whatever, if that's what you like, then go ahead and enjoy. FYI: PC = Mac too, unless macs are not personal computers (that's an inside thing, my bad).
Actually, If you know how to use it right, and get the right software, a Mac can do some of the "simple things" that a Windows computer can do, and may even be superior to Windows, in some cases. Also, I was using the term PC as a Windows computer, kinda stereotyping. And I'm not trying to bring down PC users like Mac fanboys do (I use a Windows machine myself), but I don't see why people say that Macs suck just because they have a smaller place in society than Windows machines do.
You are correct in that a Mac can do the simple things that a Windows machine can do and it true that they can be superior. What I'm trying to get across is that Mac has a tendency to oversimplify things that I believe should not be as in my opinion its sort of a right of passage to know these things. Its kind of like paying someone $5 to join a fraternity as opposed to performing the steps to fully become a part of the group. I also fully respect Mac as well, in case that needs to be stated.
They weren't truly comparing Windows to a Mac, but more of MS-DOS. Many businesses still used MS-DOS for their programs back in the 80s and early 90s due to the costs to run Windows on all their computers.
They were trying to compare "copy and paste" commands from MS-DOS to the Macintosh software. The person was (I'm assuming) trying to copy all of his contents from one location to another, as he was typing copy*.* (and dumb enough, he didn't but a space in between. lol).
Well, coming back to the video, that's what this video is trying to get across. They're saying that anyone could use it without a big hassle, and that's what Apple tries to do. They try to get the people who want something simplistic, and then have the applications that are more advanced.
Are you SERIOUS?!?!? A right of PASSAGE?!?!? What's the MATTER with you? As long as a computer does things well, shouldn't it be made as simple as humanly possible? There's no such thing as "oversimplifying" when it comes to performing tasks on a computer. Although Macs are much simpler than PCs, there are still some tasks which are pretty damn complicated. The same tasks on Windows are even worse. How can you not see the value of simplifying any given task as much as technology allows?
when does this come out? who would buy this? it's way bigger than even the 17-inch macbook pro, yet it has a crappy black and white screen! come on Apple!! i expect better products than this
Apple followed this with the sleek black power book. That was the laptop to change all laptops as you know them today. Apple is now about to change it all with mutitouch technology etc. Yes all on PC hardware so as you can see in the future if you want the Mac you buy the OS the same way you buy windows. It's Apples way of leveling the playing field. Buy Mac hardware for the smoothest bug free experience.
This was the Apple that I grew up with. Very corporate. Very ominous and always colored in beige. This was Apple's IBM era. I thought these Apple/Macs were interesting and amazing when I was a kid. Apparently it nearly killed the company.
I love the "new" Apple Computer Co. and I need all the new functionality that's progressed since then... but Apple's corporate era was awesome and cool.
