Florian is playing a Casio FX 501B. Although on their tour 1981/ 82 they were offering a "Kraftwerk special edition of the Casio Vl-80" (incl. an instruction how to play the song "pocket calculator" on it) as a merchandise product..
what kind of keyboards are they using and what are those synthasisers called byhind kraftwerk because they use them at the start of the video 4 numbers
Behind them is their entire "Kling-Klang Studio" which has been on stage during Kraftwerk`s gigs (from 1981 - 1998, now they are using their Laptops and desks).
damn it, documentaries back then where much better...letting the musicians and their music speak themselves rather than trying to pump as much information as possible in 15 minutes. nowadays they would put a voice commentary over it and make a cut like every 10 seconds lol.
Kraftwerk is the epitome of what music really is. It's incredibly beautiful. It's the unique expression that makes REAL music. The melody and beat takes you for a ride and shows you another world which can feel uncomfortable for some.
The preset 'Dreamsynth' on native instruments FM7 is exactly the same as the sound they use to play the computer world riff and much of tour de fance soundtracks 2003. Its quality having that on my comp.
I saw them for the first time during this tour in Budapest, 15/08/1981. I was nearly 14... :) This opening was on of the most shocking on stage, I am sure. I saw them in 1991 and 2004, but the overture in 1981 definitely was the best.
Thanks for uploading this! I`m not a huge Kraftwerk Fan but I like some of their songs and appreciate them as artists. It was very interesting to learn that they found it difficult to make music in Germany.
Ralf Hütter has said something very informative about this point in the "Rock & Folk Magazine" 1976:
"The living culture of Central Europe was cut in the '30s, and all the intellectuals went to the U.S. or to France, or they were eliminated. We take back that culture of the '30s at the point where it was left, and this on a spiritual level..."
I have knocked on their Kling Klang studio door and tried the very same handle of it! Florian's wonderful green Mercedes from the seventies was parked on the yard at the same time and their was a white letter envolope between front seats with handwritten letters addressed to "Ralf & Florian". I have photos too. Can you beat this?
I remember the ComputerWorldTour '81 in sydney/capital theatre...the music was so loud the plaster from the ceiling came down [from the bass].

If they built all that partly themselves then they must have been very intelligent + how did they move all that equipment about

In their best days they`ve rejected to support David Bowie and refused to cooperate with the really really really big names in music.
Now they are even opening up for a band like Radiohead.
Kraftwerk isn`t the same without Florian!!!

No, I can`t and,to be honest, I won`t! I think the fans should allow them their privacy and a productive working atmosphere. :-)

Well said. Kraftwerk are a group that dont rely on press coverage or dancing about like twats to make an impact. Long live Kling Klang.
