  • Man, don't ever do it like that again. If you honestly see nothing wrong with your form there, may whatever god you believe in back-hand some sensibility into you. If this actually was a good way to do a deadlift, you would see many of the top deadlifters in the world using this in at least one or two training videos. I know I haven't seen it, I bet you haven't either.

  • Solid bro, don't listen to all these haters who don't get it. These are probably the same people you see in the gym that tell you going past parallel on a squat is bad for your knees and bringing the bar to your chest on bench is bad for your shoulders. Keep up the good work.

  • Solid lift man! Zerchers from the floor are awesome! I don't really understand the comments that say don't do these... every idiot on here does bench press (the lift that by far causes the most injuries out of any of the lifts). Hope you're still hittin the weights hard!

  • Just a little update. I had to do zerchers for 8 weeks while my hand was broken. Absolutely NO regular deads. I came back two weeks ago. My regular deadlift has actully went up 30 pounds!!!! Im now deading 580! And the only thing i did was switched deads for zercher deads for 8 weeks

  • Good lift. I just started doing these. I'm alot shorter and more stoudt than you are. What is hard for me is when I am at the beginning position, I can hardly breathe. I have to have my lungs mostly empty or else it's too hard. I can see the benefit of this lift if done consistently.

  • Ps. Research indicates that zearcher deads will increase your regular deadlift so yes, they do have a use even for people who dont have injuries

  • Aids29dude well consider this. I recently broke four of the metacarpals in my hand. I quickly went from bein a 550 pound deadlifter to an invalid. Unable to use my hand deads were out of the question.... Until i learned of zearcher deadlifts. They allowed me to get pretty close to th deadlift and use heavy weight all while only having 1 functional hand. Dont ridicule what u dont understand. Zerchers have been a godsend for me

  • I do zerchers, but I modify it with the rack so i can assimilate somewhat a sumo match. I place the settings on the rack at about waist level-as if i'm grabbing the mawashi of my opponent-then i put on the weight i'm lifting. after that, I get into ready to wrestle position and explode to the bar ,lift,return to rack, and go back to starting position. that way I'm getting cardio,speed,power.and explosion.i personally wouldn't deadlift like that because of the risk of injury.   • I've heard IFSA lifters swear by Z. deads to help strengthen for loading events/competitive deads. It's obvious that this kid's technique was far from perfect but, with a couple 6" blocks to make up for lost arm distance and proper form, these are definitely a legitimate exercise. Help correct the guy's rounded back, not bash him because you're insecure about yourselves..

  • that was the stupidest exercise i have ever seen in my entire life. there was no leg drive whatsoever and the back rounding was so horrible. why would you ever post this? unless you're posting it from the hospital sitting in your wheelchair as a warning.

  • This exercise is now being doen by the UT powerlifting team and some of the football team. Good for younger lifters to build the deadlift. Tough on us old men though I use zercher swquats and front squats.

  • Deadlifts were never meant to be performed Zercher style, this kid may be half strong, but he is also a dumb fuck if he thinks he isnt going to get a slipped disc by lifting like that. Regardless of the rounded back that was still TERRIBLE form.

    dissing the lift - how do you think strong men competitors train for stone lifting. yes, it requires a strong back...duh. and in real life, Bubba, on the farm, isn't like, "Hey bring me a rack so I can lift this hey." modern man,,,clean and press, zerchers, etc...natural body positions. hell my two year old daughter 'zerchers' toys and boxes and bags all the time.

  • the whole rounded back training isn't always bad but you have to build up a very strong base for doing exercises like this.  the zercher pulls work very well and as long as you are strong you have a very small chanceof getting hurt

  • definitely a decent weight, however i agree with the other posters, zercher deadlift is extremely dangerous. if you're gonna do deadlifts, stick with romanian or normal deadlifts.

  • This will indeed wreck your back. Dunno where this style of Zercher deadlifting started, I thought it was supposed to be like a normal deadlift until you get your knees past the bar, then bend them until somewhat parallel to the floor, then grabbing the bar the zercher way, and just lift it from there (your knees).

    But, who knows. Perhaps this is a way... but stills, looks kinda weird with the extreme roundness of the lower back.

  • Yeah I guess it's not the conventional form of a "zercher deadlift" but a variation. Anyways, back injuries are more of a result of going from rounded to hyperextended then just being round. If it is so dangerous how would you then explain stone lifting?

  • ano pulls with a round back on his conventional pulls and konstantivas pulls with an extremely rounded back. both have huge success and pull in the 9's, no back injuries. i do think this is a bit extreme thou.

    That, will wreck your back. Look at the curvature of your spine there, that right there should be a dead giveaway that your going to end up hurting yourself.

    Kudos for trying it tho. But i wouldnt do it much unless your wanting to pop a disc.

  • @Bizarro23 Properly done squats will never wreck anything, but this is a very rounded back and will, indeed, tear it up. Normal deadlifts, done properly are fine. These, I'll pass on.

There's a huuuge difference between doing regular, strict deadlifts with good form and doing Zercher deadlifts that basically forces you do use shitty form.. These kind of deadlift will mess up your back for sure. I'd approve on zercher-squats because they are possible to do without fucking up your back.

  • There is a point to that depending on what your training goals are...... If you are training fro strongman, zercher deads tranfer to a lot of events.
