Question? First I uploaded a tune into Audacity, I then played along to said tune while recording the drum track, Now I play them back and there not! in sync??? I've tried everything to get them to sync up but no luck..... WTF am I doing wrong???????????????????? Thanks! for any info.
I use a similar method but I record with a cheap $30 USB mic and I run it into Cakewalk Music Creator. It has a lot of good compressors and exports really easily.
Hey man, one more quick question. i did everything you said, got it to work, now I have the audio from the song perfectly aligned with the audio from the mic, now I need to bring that to Sony Vegas pro, how do I do that?
Hey man, quick question. how would you get the camera and the microphone with audacity to start recording at the same time? i was going to do my videos the exact same way you did yours, but my friend would just be holding a camera
@xSICKDRUMMERx You don't need to, just start the camera then start the audacity recording. then match up the audacity audio to the song and then the video audio to the drum audio.
interesting, i have four mics and only four channels on my mixer and i needed one more mic and one more channel, after watching this i decided to use the Guitar Hero mic to record the snare and im also gonna be able to send it to a different track.
with the camera, you're getting a bit more of everything, which is what you want. but it's all mashed together and it sounds like crap. with the mic, you get less of a mash of the sounds, but on the downside some things stand out more than others, most notably the snare drum. the mic doesn't have to be hidden, just in a spot where you can get a bit of everything. placement is extremely important, especially if you only have one.
@RingerFilms Yes, but I find the place that I have it gives me optimal sound quality. Because the bass frenquency is so low, I need the mic close to it or else you won't hear it. I also need it near as many toms as possible cause they are REALYL quiet for some reason. And because the cymbals are higher up, they are much quieter. So I've got the perfect placement, don't worry about it bud.
@CoverDrummer94 that was just my interpretation of what you were trying to say in the video. the toms are pretty quiet, but i think it's just the heads you're using. plus, toms are usually really quiet in the first place. as for the snare, it sounds good sometimes, but not very often. the sound you had for it in your earlier videos was really good. might've just been the mic, but still. also, i have a request: shattering the skies above by trivium. good luck >:D
@CoverDrummer94 actually, if you're working on shattering the skies above right now, you can scrap it if it's too hard. that's practically death metal drumming. that shit's hard: eighth notes at 250 bpm with one hand--try to kick 16th notes at half that speed. you probly could, but still. i can't think of a song in your style that you haven't already done. have you done boulevard of broken dreams?
last year i did exactly the same bro ;) no i have a little homestudio, but its not that easy as you think, so if youre evr going to record your set with 8 mics an interface and so on, dont think itll be easy ;)
cheers, your steve :) go on like this
ps. omg in 5 days i see the fuckers of Billy Talent live :)
Because of the advice you've given me, I do the exact same thing that you do, except I prop my rock band mike up with a role of duct tape because I don't have a tripod :P and my camera is propped up on 3 paint cans stacked on top of a chair stacked on top of a desk. lol
@nazer9 Yes, most definitely. Just place the mic in the middle of the room, closer to the amps, and put th amps all in one place. I have videos up on this channel of me recording full band stuff with this technique.
question: i tried recording and justice for all, with audacity, and especially with really long songs like that, after im done recording and hit the stop button it sais, audacity has stopped working, has that ever happened to you, and what do you do to fix it.
Good tutorial. I use a similar technique like yours, i use a sing star & another vocal microphone to get my audio. surprisingly the sing star works as a condenser and the vocal is decent.
@Remixsification Yeah to legit to quit... I thought he was joking to when i saw it at his house... sadly he wasn't. But Hopefully he'll be getting some awesome drum mics (I'm in his band, and kind of excited if he ever does so we can record)
i have something almost exactly like sony vegas pro 9, but not as good. its windows movie maker. :P i know, it sucks. but me making bad jokes aside, do you still think that it would work?
@shawnrulez22 No. Unfortunately, you just cannot get the precise timing for the syncing that you need. And I don't you can have two seperate audio tracks (not inclduing the audio from the clip which you do not use).
@shawnrulez22 I'm not 100% about syncing up the audio part (I haven't used the program in decades), but if you're really desperate and can't find any other programs to work for you (haven't searched for them) you have one audio track (besides camera sound you don't want) so you can add the drums to the video then render it then repeat but with the music, it's not recommended but it's better then paying for vegas... or stealing it (coming from a not so pro video editer)
Can I use other program?, because i don't have Sony Vegas . Thanks!
