  • why so much dislikes

  • Will someone please answer my question? A common example given of the expansion of the universe is all the galaxies flying apart from each other and the space increasing between them. So my question is,does that mean that the space between individual atoms[(everywhere),inside you me, the rock across the street and the space between a proton and its electron and inside the nucleus of an atom] is also expanding? If so, am I right in ASSuming that Hubble's constant and expansion apply?

  • @hanalei169, Hello, look at space as one thing and everything else within it as another. Space itself is expanding, everything inside of space is NOT expanding. We are made of matter, we do not expand (nor does the rock across the street), the vacuum of space is what expands, it is "The energy of nothing, even nothing has energy" [Michio Kaku]. There is more detailed info on this subject, you should watch some youtube vids regarding DARK ENERGY.

  • Where can I find the rest of this video? The audio sucks but the subject matter is awesome. Guth was just warming up when the video cut out? Any theories?

  • @Kinthesky1 This video was likely smaller at some point in time allowing for it to be viewed with the 1 hour space/time that Youtube allows but with the expansion of the universe caused by ....and that's where the video cut out???

  • Meh.. bad Gedanken Experiment. The G field extends all the way particle to particle inside the sphere as well. Not that there's no gravity inside. There is, just uniform pull in all directions. More or less.

  • I WANT UR CAT

  • With all due respect Rabidape, you should post these on a separate channel. These are great and all, but every time I come on to YT it goes something like this:"O yay, a new Rabidape vi.... O SHIT NVM :(".

  • except if I made a new channel, I wouldn't be able to post hour-long vids on it.

And wouldn't you rather listen to Alan Guth than RabidApe, anyway?

    ;D

  • Oh right. Damn youtubes and the time restrictions >_>

  • "And wouldn't you rather listen to Alan Guth than RabidApe, anyway?"

    hahhahahhahhahhhahhhahhahhhhahhhahahahahahahahaha!!!! No :)

  • @RabidApe More dislikes than likes? I'm sorry but you must have some incredibly dense subscribers, if their expectations are so bitterly confounded by the posting a of a full lecture from one of the world's great physicists.

  • Great upload Rabidape. Is there a follow up to this? It ended kind of abruptly.

  • I think I once saw this exact same lecture recorded by someone's camcorder in the room (w HORRIBLE audio), but I couldn't find it when I actually looked for it before I typed this....

I haven't seen anything else from the class, either....

  • Ahh cool. Great lecture anyway. Really enjoyed it.

  • the entire series is on the mit website. Look at their playlist

  • Oh, and Alan Guth strikes me as an amazingly interesting person. His body language is so unique.

  • As always, thank you for sharing this knowledge with us. If only more people would spread education like this.. without asking you to sign your time away or give them money.

  • Thanks my friend in Nature's god. These lectures are very informative.

  • awesome!
