  • Thats what made it good because it was spontainious.

  • The greatest song ever wrote IMHO.

  • People say my version is really touching if yall would like to give it a listen. I did a tribute to my grandparents.

  • I got turned off from church as a teenager because of a pastor we had by the name of Rozell. But if for some reason Roy Acuff came back and I ran into him, and he said, "are we going to see you in church on Sunday boy?" Even though I'm now in my 40's I think my response would probably be, "yes sir Mr. Acuff...I'll be there."

  • What a legend!

  • All these videos should be preserved and protected.........the grand ole opry at the Ryman auditorium has gone forever we will never see it like this again, the history , the legendary stars that gave it its heart .

For our generation the Ryman is the home of the greatest era in country music history .

I would desperately love to see recordings of some live Opry shows from the 60s I wonder how many exist ?

  • This song brings back a fond memory of my grandmother for me, she sang it all the time it was her favorite song. Thanks for sharing

  • This is one of my favorites. I love to play and sing it. It also has a few more verses. Thanks Roy for this one.

  • this sounds kinda like hank thompsons the wild side of life

  • I had the honor with my wife to see Roy while he was with us at the Grand Ole Opry in 1991 just prior to his passing. I'll treasure that opportunity always. Thanks for posting this.

  • Who played the electric solo on this? It sounded SO awesome...Is this the only version that Roy did that had such an arrangement? If not, please lead me to it! I love that sound!

  • @easye1989 The guitarist in question would be Jackie Phelps. If you look at the Acuff video I have on here of Wabash Cannonball (around the time frame of 2:25), you will see him and here his solo on that song! :-)

  • This is why I will fight for country music till the day I die.

Because of guys like Roy who are the true legends!

  • thanks for this post. my mom, an old country gal, loved it dearly and i recall hearing it on our big old radio back in the early 50's. I am in my 60's now and she is long gone but she loved this.

  • Thank you for posting this. I cry everytime I hear it because my mom played this as well as sang it tom as a child. My mom passed away 5 yrs ago so this keeps my memory alive!

  • You are more than welcome blessed7lady! :-)

  • I forgot to say I played Dobro for Mr Roy on 3 concerts in Minnesota in 1979

  • Wow , the only Video showing Oswald playing His Shobro , built by Gene Martin , He told Me that He didn't like it that much .but played it for to help Shot Jackson

  • There needs to be more videos of Mr. Roy Acuff put on youtube ! He was excellent performing even in his last years until his death at 89, in 1992.

  • I agree!

  • @glencoe6305 I agree!

  • It was a honor for your grandfather to play with Roy! My grandfather would cry so very hard when he heard this song. It touch him way down in his bones! Bless you my friend!

  • Back when country was country. Excellent song. I have a CD of his music, but it is almost too scratched to hear anything on it, BUT this one song. Strange, isn't it!

  • Roy was amazing when he started singing himself, granted the band was also good.

    very simple yet very deep.

    thanks for posting

  • this was my grandfather's favorite song. He teared up every time he heard it. I just love it and thanks for the posting of it!

  • You are more than welcome mbelle! :-) I took it off YouTube a few months ago...then I was asked to put it back on here because it meant so much to someone.

Speaking of grandfathers (even though you cant see him that well), my grandfather is playing with Acuff on this clip. He can be seen standing behind Oswald (around 2:25)

    Take care!!

  • thanks for posting this again. I hope you can keep it up. This is the only YouTube of Acuff doing the song. There are however some excellent covers.
