Its crazy because Hook was at my basketball game on Sunday June 19, 2011.. and I didnt even know who he was. He was helping me warm up at half time and trying to help improve my jumpshot. He's a good guy, I wouldve never thought he had been through the obstacles he has been through.. Hes a great person.
nigga u aint lyin, a couple in every hood, maybe they never went to jail, maybe they got injured or had a shorty, but its alot of niggas that aint make to the mlb nfl nba shit soccer jus because of major setbacks that should of been minor
This shit is so sad if he back on that stuff. These fucking drugs have ruined so many in our community and family. In the end someone on drugs has to make that change for themselves and no matter how much they family and friends love them it wont make a difference to they are ready to make that change.
same thing happened to booger smith from new york. they say booger was the best player to never make the league and it was cause of drugs he aint make it. they made a movie bout him to its called soul in the hole check it out
its sad to hear stories of great talents gon to waste. theres a guy i kno personally they call him 6'9 cause he's so tall. he's really only like 6'5 but he has extremely long arms and a 44 inch vertical which makes him a best on the boards. i hear guys say he could've been a better rebounder than rodman gerald wallace haslem dwight howard josh smith and all those guys but so many street fights landed him in and out of jail so he will probably end up as anotha great talent gon to waste
one tym derrick favors josh smith jerry stackhouse joe johnson tyson chandler and a few more nba players played a pick up game at a gym in atlanta called run n shoot and mane dat guy 6'9 was skying over derrick favors and tyson chandler and even took some from josh smith. all of them were wondering why he wasnt playin pro or college but that street mentality has a hold on him but we all try to help em out but tha decision to listen will be on him so to me hes one of the greatest not playin pro
'bonservant4Him' how do you know that "Hook" is back on the wrong path again? Where did you hear that? I truly hope he's not for that matter because the non-profit program he started in '04 is a wonderful initiative!
this brought me to tears real talk so many people have talent and let it go to the streets i am one of them i i made wrong decisions in my life as well and i was very talented in basketball also for all young people watching this never loose hope in striving towards forfilling your goals in life never give up remember that
i cried wen i saw dis really touchin kuz im frm oakland n i know how real it iz out der n i wish was n da nba rite now.he had hall of fame potential but he blew it all bkuz he didnt have a mom or dad n da community really raised him n got him on 2 drugz..his only mentor whu cared 5 him died n datz made him feel lyke he was notin n he spent out of control n throw away his life..n dat women talkn D.Patton is a teachers aide at my school n she hate talkn bout it...but thankz 4da upload dat touched
SweetJRT, thanks for sharing this, much appreciated.
I sincerely feel for Hook. A product of his community. This just reaffirms that we got to worry about OUR kids before we worry about the rest of the world.
We failed Hook and all the countless people like him.
You are welcome. Hook is a product of his community, but he also needs to be held accountable for what he did. People come out of the same projects as him and have made something of their lives. Everyone makes their own choices.
@SweetJRT true but the drugs were a power he just messed with and didn't UNDERSTAND the real consequences of those drugs like cocaine and heroin. They are PURE evil, especially heroin because it becomes a REAL NEED. like water almost, or the air you breathe,
He has so much pain, he never really knew what love was, or any support, which is why he turned to drugs. His form of addiction is serious because he's using it to cope/ In addition to that, getting out of prision then going back to the same negative environment, chancesof recovery are slim.
I think this is an excellent story that's packed with messages about life; a man that's broken, staying true to yourself and your dreams, don't let you surroundings dictate who you are, overcoming obstacles etc etc. Prisons are full of stories such as this. I don't just mean the brick and mortar type. I mean the prisons of our minds. Every day it's an all out war to achieve what we want and the push to get it must be stronger than the forces coming against you.
Best video I have seen on YouTube. Thanks for the upload. This is so sad to me. If it's true that he is back on drugs, please, please, someone in the Oakland area reach out to him. I know his mistakes are numerous, but it is how we serve others that matter most. Pray for Hook and those that he surrounds himself with. Someone please try and track him down... God Bless Hook.
I wish reaching out to Hook was that easy. I know a lot of people that are friends with Hook and that grew up with him, but sometimes the power of drugs is just to strong. It's between Hook and God now nobody else can reel him in.
Thanks for uploading this man. It was great to watch.
