To all those saying that the Dreamcast was ahead of its time: intending no disrespect towards the awesome but unfortunate Dreamcast, I must say that it was exactly where its time was, not ahead of it.

It was, of course, very nice in '98, but take a look at '99. PC and arcade games promptly caught up with the Dreamcast. Really, this is what a '98 console could do.

Actually the Dreamcast was ahead of it's time, specially in the graphics department. The Dreamcast was basically on par with the PS2 in hardware, only a few games released for Dreamcast came close to utilizing it's full power.

I remember a lot from this game, but whenever I think about it, I think of the level where you're inside that cave with the creepy screaming ceiling eel thing that tries to eat you if you get too close.

I guess a lot of things try to eat you in that game.

I wish this series and Shenmue would get picked back up, or even release this and the Dreamcast version of Shenmue on XBL. Both have such a cult following. I'm sure both series were expensive to make, but they truly are two of the best games I've ever played. VMU's rocked the boat, as well.

@davidthefrogman Perhaps but SEGA Dreamcast was released in 1998 and Gamecube in 2001, also PS2 in 2000! Now seeing what DC could do and in what year it was developed compared to the others.. I think big N and Sony were so way back behind SEGA.

This game was amazing but I remember I was 9 and got SO ANGRY cause all the puzzles that made up the levels were so bloody hard! xD I never got round to finishing the game cause I just got fed up of dying!

It failed because the PS2 came out. Even though it still sold moderately well, Sega really did owe a lot of money. In fact, the president of Sega actually gave the company money out of his OWN pocket.

Well, they wasted it on the Saturn. All of it melted, mainly because barely anyone had one, it was too expensive to produce, and no one could develop for it because it was too hard (2 CPUs)

Plus the Playstation was killing everything in its path.

The DC failed because of absurd media hype around the PS2, Sega's past failures that burnt a lot of gamers' wallets, and the big one was: the PS2's ability to play DVDs. DVD-players during that time-- on the very cheap side --were still 100 dollars if you were lucky to find one for that price. Not everyone had a DVD player yet so this made economical sense for PS1 owners to wait out for the PS2.

I tried my heart out to get people to buy a DC. Nobody would budge., or listen.

yeah, coz DC (and GC), both used S3 texture compression, which PS2 didnt support. thats why DC games look more vibrant than PS2, even though PS2 has more grunt.
