i just ordered this from amazon for $115 yesterday ( here is the name: Opteka Deluxe "Skaters" Package (Includes the Opteka 0.3X Ultra Fisheye Lens, X-Grip Handle & VL-20 LED Video Light for 25mm, 30mm, 30.5mm & 37mm Camcorders. ) it is sent by 47th street photo. and i was wondering if you think it is the same thing even tho it is allot less money, because i dont want to get scammed haha
One more thing to think about besides the obvious superior quality of the Cam Caddie is that it is American made, not imported from China. Think of the implications (child labor = high profits) . Not you Drummer but for those of you trying to decipher between the 2.
@SoRealCereal Haha I'm all for American made shit, although China has some badass stuff, but that really isn't going to stop someone from purchasing an X-Grip. No offense, but if I saw that comment on a review of the X-Grip, it wouldn't mean shit to me. I still would have purchased it. Just sayin'.
@CaseyTheDrummerBoy Yeah I think most people would agree with you but I've purchased too many crappy toys and pencils and sporting equipment that is just soooo cheaply made in China. Sometimes it's pretty much the same but I think this is another one that your better off keeping the difference in mind.
@SoRealCereal Yeah, I can agree to that. If I was filming more and used a light/mic, I'd probably buy myself a CamCaddie, but I just don't film enough to worry about it.
@DraculaTeeth333 So you're calling me gay, but yet you're saying I have nice thighs? Good one, buddy. Also, I didn't make the X-Grip, so don't bitch at me for using a product. The X-Grip has the same features as the Cam Caddie, as do other products, but it has worked perfectly for me. So, whenever you get a camera and start filming, then you can talk shit.
@CaseyTheDrummerBoy learn to read before you learn to unbox things, I was laughing at objectivevision's comment regarding the nice thighs of what appears to be your mumsy at the end of this video. AND I'm not bitching for you using it, I'm making fun of your blatant advertisement for this cheap thing. I have a camera I am "filming" and i am talking some shit. Don't take it so personally.
If you guys don't care about how bad your shots look fine but you're advertising a bad product and that's what I deal with. BTW the nice young lady at the end of the video has nice thighs bad taste in video gear tho. This video is rotten SPAM
This is all well and good but the X-grip is a total knock-off of cam caddie. It's cheaply made and could not even hold my friends LED lights without wobbling. I'm ordering a CamCaddie from Amazon tomorrow.
@ObjectiveVision I know this, but I got it in a package and it was a gift, so I'm not complaining. Also, I've had no problems with my X-Grip, but the light that came in the package was shipped broke. I really only wanted the package for the fisheye and X-Grip, both of which have served their purpose rather well.
@oldestpg Aha I see that now. lol dude needs a life, I guess. I mean, I get that it's a "knock-off", but they're basically the same thing, right? Doesn't seem like a big deal to me. :P
@CaseyTheDrummerBoy Hahah Yeha i think the xgrip is even better idk , but i had a homemade handle on my video and he said " thats a cheap knock of" So basicly nothing he tells you is right! :)
@CaseyTheDrummerBoy That's cool someone gave you a present that's useful to you. I'm just saying for those having to buy themselves gear in hopes of better quality videos there are better options out there for the same price. As you raise the bar for yourself it becomes harder to get there with the X-grip. Something is better than nothing I must agree. Do you have drum videos?
@ObjectiveVision The X-Grip and the CamCaddie aren't all that different. Yes, the CamCaddie is built better. I'll give them that, but honestly, either one will do the same thing. And not trying to be a dick here, but before you ask me what I have videos of, all you have to do is look through my videos to see that I do make drum videos.
@CaseyTheDrummerBoy you may have a point, to a point but as you add features and desire a more professional independent setup I highly recommend the Cam Caddie to those who still aren't sure what to go with. it's a better long term purchase. Though something is better than nothing especially if you got it for free
@radomjake Ah you caught me! Haha I'm actually waiting for all the parts for my new custom computer I'm building to come in. :P But no problem. I hope you like the package.
@princeevad For the handle, you just need to make sure the camera has a place to screw in a tripod on the bottom. If it has that, then you can. For the fisheye, you need to find out what thread size your lens is. It probably doesn't fit normal point-and-shoot cameras.
@princeevad Eh. Not with the particular one I purchased. My camera's lens size is much smaller than yours, so you will need a bigger thread size. The only ones I am finding on Amazon are $229.95 for a 52mm. You can try Ebay, but I personally don't trust them.
@bskate10 Yeah, you can. There are three little screws on the side so you can take it off and put it on whenever you want. Just make sure you have the little tool it came with.
@zshred11 Look at the specs on your camera. There should be something about the thread size or something on the box or in your papers. If it's a smaller video camera, it's most likely the 37mm. It should be the one that comes with the 25mm, 30mm, and 30.5mm adapter/converter rings. Check and see what your camera's lens thread size is and see if it matches up with one of the converter rings. If it does, then it will work.
@WillTeleVision Haha I just put it on and it came out like that. I guess I got lucky. But yeah, read my comment on your video. Your vig isn't a problem, it's your sunshade. Take that off or line it up. Hope that helps. :)
yeah man im getting hg20 and baby death as my starter cam and fish. (payign all for myself) should i also get the handle or should i jsut chill with the death and then get teh handle later
Nice man. Definitely a nice way to start out. If you have the money (it's like $30 by itself) then I would highly recommend getting the handle. It helps make your shot a lot smoother.
@CaseyTheDrummerBoy yeah my friend is letting me practice right now. hopefully i get pretty decent for when i get my cam but im stoked to get it. i got a job and started to save up my money
Actually, I don't really know, but yesterday I saw a video comparison with the spacer on and with it off and it looks like it makes the fisheye a little wider. I'll have to try it.
Where can i but it? Amazon is out of stock... it look so awesome!!! i planning to buy the x-grip and the baby death, but this package are the same price and so much more! please help
Amazon is the only place I know of that has this package. Yeah, the fisheye and the handle are amazing, but if you can't get the package, I recommend just getting those two. If you plan on using a light, you might just look into the Bescor 50/100 light. It's pretty expensive, but the video light that comes with the package isn't the best. Plus, the things that come with the package aren't all that amazing, besides the screen cover (which I use all the time), so yeah.
Hey im probaly getting a HG21 and the "skaters package" but the fisheye is a 43mm so if it comes wit a spacer does it effect any vig or the angle or how wide it is
Hmm idk. Is the fisheye a 43mm or the camera? Because the fisheye I have won't fit a 43mm lens. If your camera is 43mm, you might want to look for the fisheye that will fit a 43mm and just buy the X-Grip handle too.
Haha yeah, I like to make sure I at least try to help people. I hate people that don't even read their comments. Like, what's the point of making the video then? :P
Actually, my light doesn't even work. It flickered on once and it was really bright for how small the bulb is, but if you have any extra money, I would see if you could buy a little nicer video light to be honest.
Oh crap, yeah. I'll get that up tomorrow after I get home from school. I just had some school stuff I had to get done tonight, but yeah, I'll definitely have that up real soon.
You would think it'd be crap, but it is actually really good, it's sturdy, and holds up well. It doesn't make your shot as smooth as an expensive steadicam, but it definitely works better than just holding the camera, depending on what camera you have.
Thanks for this video man. I now know what setup i'm getting for my camera. I was definitely going with Opteka because there so cheap but wasn't sure what. Thanks again this video really helped.
Oh no problem. Yeah, Opteka definitely is the way to go if you can't afford Century Optics, which, in my opinion, they are almost exactly the same quality. But yeah, any questions, feel free to ask.
You have to have a 1394 port on your computer to plug it into, otherwise you'll have to buy and install one. Not too hard. But you just plug it in and it should pop up on your computer, then just go from there.
haha its like as soon as i asked a few questions 40 million other people did. but yea dud i got that grip an the big ass fisheye for christmas. its so dirty. now i gotta figure out how to put shit on my computer. haha. gotta trim the handle too, but it aint no deal. thanks fo yo help.
@SkateSeshEA Haha No problem dude. Just get a firewire cable and you'll be good. Yeah, the handle's not hard to do. Just trim like, half an inch off and it'll be good. But yeah, no problemo. :)
A firewire cable is like a USB, but it plugs into a 1394 slot. I'm not sure if you can import footage with a USB, I haven't tried. You might be able to, but I just bought a firewire cable. If you do get one, you'll have tke sure you have the 1394 place to plug the cable in, or you will have to buy a 1394 slot.
hey nice video, i got a question about you camera, im guna get the same one (DCR-HC52) and i wanted to know if i get the same fish that you got form the skaters package, do i need a step up ring to make it fit, or will it fit witout ay ring..
Well actually, my light does not work. I think the connection inside of the device is shot, but after I charged the batteries, the light flickered and it is actually really bright for how small it is, but the light itself is pretty sketchy. I would recommend just going and buying a separate video light that you know will work. Just do some research. But yeah, the whole packagae is amazing. I use the handle and fisheye every time I film. Any other questions, I'll be sure to try and help.
Yeah, I just recently started using Vegas. I really haven't found out the Render settings I like yet, so I apologize. And the files aren't too big. I would recommend that after you, say, if you're going to put the video on YouTube, if you don't think you'll need it again, you should go ahead and delete it. I have an external hard drive, so I have plenty of space, but if you don't have one, then I would delete the file if possible.
i got a question i have same camera so when u put that handle on you can only put the light on top of it righ not on camera b/c does not have sopt for it also can you out a mic. on the handle
Umm yeah, it has a place to slide the video light in on top of the handle. And, if I understand you correctly, you can also put a mic on top, but only if it fits or you have something that adapts to the mic to put on the handle.
yo thanks man. its great quality. um the converters come right with the package itself? i think it would hafta be a 30 mm adapter right? how the xgrip workin for ya?
Yes, it comes with three different conversion sizes and yes, you'll just twist on the 30mm ring. And the Handle is great, but you will have cut a little off the end of it so it won't show in the video. Umm if you check out my video "Fisheye Test" you will see the tip of the handle up on the top of the screen. If you cut a little off the top, it won't show.
Oh yeah dude. I only cut off, mybe a half an inch and it was at an angle so the handle didn't lose any strength. Even if you do cut off like, an inch, you still have plenty of room for the light.
do you actually have that model camera? sony hc52? i just want to make sure cuz i have the same one but i dont want that fisheye to look goofy if i get it.
Yes, I have the Sony DCR-HC52. The fisheye comes with converters that screw right on the lens and camera. I was worried about that too, but it really doesn't look bad at all. It's a bit odd at first, just because you aren't used to having something on your camera, but it looks fine and the quality is great.
i just ordered this from amazon for $115 yesterday ( here is the name: Opteka Deluxe "Skaters" Package (Includes the Opteka 0.3X Ultra Fisheye Lens, X-Grip Handle & VL-20 LED Video Light for 25mm, 30mm, 30.5mm & 37mm Camcorders. ) it is sent by 47th street photo. and i was wondering if you think it is the same thing even tho it is allot less money, because i dont want to get scammed haha

haha its like as soon as i asked a few questions 40 million other people did. but yea dud i got that grip an the big ass fisheye for christmas. its so dirty. now i gotta figure out how to put shit on my computer. haha. gotta trim the handle too, but it aint no deal. thanks fo yo help.
SkateSeshEA 2 years ago
@SkateSeshEA Haha No problem dude. Just get a firewire cable and you'll be good. Yeah, the handle's not hard to do. Just trim like, half an inch off and it'll be good. But yeah, no problemo. :)
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
with the dcr hc52 can you just upload clips onto the computer using the usb?
alexsmiith 2 years ago
No, you'll need a firewire cable.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
whats that? does it come with the camera?
alexsmiith 2 years ago
A firewire cable is like a USB, but it plugs into a 1394 slot. I'm not sure if you can import footage with a USB, I haven't tried. You might be able to, but I just bought a firewire cable. If you do get one, you'll have tke sure you have the 1394 place to plug the cable in, or you will have to buy a 1394 slot.

hey nice video, i got a question about you camera, im guna get the same one (DCR-HC52) and i wanted to know if i get the same fish that you got form the skaters package, do i need a step up ring to make it fit, or will it fit witout ay ring..
skateism444 2 years ago
It comes with a 30mm converter ring so if you just get the package, you won't need anything.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago

Well actually, my light does not work. I think the connection inside of the device is shot, but after I charged the batteries, the light flickered and it is actually really bright for how small it is, but the light itself is pretty sketchy. I would recommend just going and buying a separate video light that you know will work. Just do some research. But yeah, the whole packagae is amazing. I use the handle and fisheye every time I film. Any other questions, I'll be sure to try and help.

Do you use vegas?
If so a few questions:
Could you message me your Render settings?
And are the File Sizes Huge?
HappyGingerFilmer 2 years ago
Yeah, I just recently started using Vegas. I really haven't found out the Render settings I like yet, so I apologize. And the files aren't too big. I would recommend that after you, say, if you're going to put the video on YouTube, if you don't think you'll need it again, you should go ahead and delete it. I have an external hard drive, so I have plenty of space, but if you don't have one, then I would delete the file if possible.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
When you find some good render settings could you hit me up with them? :)
HappyGingerFilmer 2 years ago
Yeah dude, for sure.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago

i got a question i have same camera so when u put that handle on you can only put the light on top of it righ not on camera b/c does not have sopt for it also can you out a mic. on the handle
BijanColbie 2 years ago
Umm yeah, it has a place to slide the video light in on top of the handle. And, if I understand you correctly, you can also put a mic on top, but only if it fits or you have something that adapts to the mic to put on the handle.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
ya thamls srry sounded so complecated lol
BijanColbie 2 years ago
@BijanColbie Haha it's cool.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
rad man. i hope i can get this shit. and while we're playing 2o questions, where did you get the wiring to hook up your camera to ur computer?
SkateSeshEA 2 years ago
Haha umm I think I got it at Radioshack. It's like this 7-in-1 connection thing. All you need is a 1394 cable.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
yo thanks man. its great quality. um the converters come right with the package itself? i think it would hafta be a 30 mm adapter right? how the xgrip workin for ya?
SkateSeshEA 2 years ago
Yes, it comes with three different conversion sizes and yes, you'll just twist on the 30mm ring. And the Handle is great, but you will have cut a little off the end of it so it won't show in the video. Umm if you check out my video "Fisheye Test" you will see the tip of the handle up on the top of the screen. If you cut a little off the top, it won't show.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
but if you cut off a little bit on the handle then can you still put the light onto the handle?
DJkayjee 2 years ago
Oh yeah dude. I only cut off, mybe a half an inch and it was at an angle so the handle didn't lose any strength. Even if you do cut off like, an inch, you still have plenty of room for the light.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
sweet. so you like this package?
and it comes with an adapter for 37mm and spacer right?
DJkayjee 2 years ago
Yeahh. I love this. And yep, it does. :)
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
do you actually have that model camera? sony hc52? i just want to make sure cuz i have the same one but i dont want that fisheye to look goofy if i get it.
SkateSeshEA 2 years ago
Yes, I have the Sony DCR-HC52. The fisheye comes with converters that screw right on the lens and camera. I was worried about that too, but it really doesn't look bad at all. It's a bit odd at first, just because you aren't used to having something on your camera, but it looks fine and the quality is great.
CaseyTheDrummerBoy 2 years ago
