  • Random maracas at the end.......

  • The quality of this video -not this version- sucks balls, click on the other upload of it to the right to hear it crystal clear.

  • VHS BABY!!!

  • fuck i love this band wish i had the chance to see them live fuck would have been a mind bend

  • If it were possible to go back in time ... and attend any Skynyrd concert ... this one would be about as could as it gets !!!

  • JUST AMAZING HOW GOOD THEY WERE

  • RIP Ronnie, Steve and Cassie the world was a better place with you.

  • It's just real magic how this band put it together. I'll never forget those days.

  • When the two guitars come together at the end I get chills. Brilliant music.

  • the real deal!!!

  • i stopped getting allergy shots in 1979 because of this song.

  • @pbrick6301 lol, this song isnt about allergy shots, its about shooting up heroin

  • its about all drugs

  • thanks man its aawsum video in this world for everyone to see

  • 20 people? how even 1 to dislike them....?

  • W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L !

  • again and again still you cant touch the real lynard skynard including guitar pickers

  • @mrcharle2u : It's LYNYRD SKYNYRD, pronounced Leonard Skinner.

  • whats me 26 mean someones age

  • im sure this sounded 999999x better and more powerful in person i hate soundboard concert recordings it doesnt portray the full rich sound that they really was makin

  • oh that smell.. the smell of 70's surrounds us

  • blow my soul

  • This is the first song I remember hearing and actually listening to. Up until the time I was 8 or 9 I thought they were singing about passing gas.

  • @Spencerianism nah, its the smell of death.

  • I was at this show.10th row center..My 17th birthday .38 Special warmed up Skynyrd. Everything basically sounded spot on to the " One more from the road" Double album. Had no idea at the time how lucky I was to see them in their prime.

  • @NewYorkMetsFan1 Damn! You got into this place at 17? Those were the days indeed when being underage was no big deal, cause I know they most likely had beer and a few other good things going around. You're a lucky guy to see them so soon before the crash.

  • wow - billy powell sounds really good on this one

  • only thing bad here, is the VHS tape... Glad it got preserved before it was lost forever!

  • Christ, what an excellent rendition and to think that the end was so shortly near....haunting.

  • i dont understand its a genuine name brand magnetbox vcr why does it keep failing

  • people die every day, but talent never does.

  • their was no greater band no where in history and never will be not just one of them but the band in a whole was Lynyrd Skynyrd i am so lucky just to hear them. just one more fix might do the trick

  • this was THE BEST skynyrd lineup. steve gains and artimus pyle skynyrd....not bob burns or fat ass ed king

  • RIP Ronnie

  • live or studio...perfect!

  • song kicks ass and is perfert to say it when smell a terrible smell.

  • I recently discovered LS and I was blown away. What a tragedy for rock 'n' roll when they gone (this refers to the line-up with Ronnie).

  • There are 17 people that obviously dont know music when they hear or see it!!!

  • Greenville to Baton Rouge I'll call you up when I get through The life I live is the life I choose Greenville to Baton Rouge The shows have sure been great this year All eight cylinders all twelve gears Call you up when I touch down at the airport in a Louisiana town. Street survivors, feeling no pain A little more rock, a little less cocaine. And don't forget about Stevie Gaines Drive By Truckers
  • Wow! Thanks for posting this! Awesome to see Steve Gaines at work!

  • This song is so wonderfully sad.I can almost never listen to it without crying.~RIP~

  • I grew up in San Francisco, listening to a whole spectrum of music. I was not a big Lynyrd Skynyrd at the time. But anyone who "dislikes" this video is a complete and total social retard. This song, along with the the rest of Lynyrd Skynyrd music, is 100% pure classic Americana. It defined a generation.

  • Best live band in rock history!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 17 people smell. This has to be one one of the greatest understated rock pieces of all time.

  • I saw them about a half dozen times, including on this tour just days before the plane crash... Just wish I remembered any of it lol If You remember the 60's, you weren't there" G. Carlin

  • just saw them live a week ago. absolutely mind-bottling. i am so lucky to be able to hear this REAL music even after so many years. god bless this band.

  • @PSEjacob Sorry to tell you this, but you didn't see these guys... They died shortly after this was filmed....

  • I never knew who played whcih solo on the record until now. Steve Gaines takes the first two solos, Allen Collins takes the third long solo, and Gary Rossington takes the fourth and fifth, then back to Allen and Steve. I think Allen is the most amazing guitarist of all three, but I really like Gary's descending riff.

  • @Exilemainstreet

hey dude did you know that allen wrote all of the solos of that smell

  • @alfonso790 The solos Steve plays really sound like his style, not Allen's. I have a hard time believing Allen wrote those...

  • @MrErnieman7

i reed it in lynyrd skynyrd dixie it says that allen wrote the song before ronnie put the lyrics in it

  • @alfonso790 i didn't know that. I think Allen was the best guitarist of the three, but I like Gary's tone.

  • 16 people can't smell

  • @WaylonForever hahahaha TELL EM!!!

  • He says hello Tulsa, not Asbury Park

  • Comment removed

  • what kind of assholes votes thumbs down on these guys??????? this is it folks!!!! the real thing!!!! you aint never gonna find this anywhere!!!!!! just fuckin listen to this shit!!! listen to this man!!!! in-fuckin-credible!!!!!!

  • @456japan Amen brother.

  • @456japan those people have no concept of american music and culture. this is what happens when we let, allow hoards, upon the millions of undocumented foreigners into our, OUR COUNTRY. Dont you love "cultural diversity??"

  • @456japan you called that right on target to bad the world is filled with asswipes

  • tesseagles anyone who dont love this, who dont tear up is an idiot. rock and roll will never ever be as good as this. RIP my southern gentlemen and ladies.

  • kick fu..n ass so many good songs and what emotion in the guitar solos......comand and responce excelent ..MAX

  • @456japan I can tell you who , little Metrosexual Girly-men from the big Cities. And Obama Voters (Same thing actually) This is amazing video fottage of one of the greatest Bands of all time, captured mere months before the tragedy occurred . I feel this was the ultimate incarnation of Skynyrd, and had they not been Killed ,Gaines/Van Zandt would have blessed us with so many more masterpieces. Rossington is also an amazing Guitarist ,but Steve Gaines ,was just born to be in this Band .

  • @456japan Amen Japanese dude!! This is one killer tune by Skynyrd. One of the best bands of all time no question!!

  • why bother....are you stupid?

  • hotrod there simply are no musicians today in the real world, or mass media that they push down our throats. I have a hard time watching national news. genuine music as this should go down in the books as the real deal.

  • I just we could have them here today.

  • this Pretty amazing footage considering ...thanks for uploading it n sharing trying to copy it for keeps..rying to get all this great tru music in a great collection for the my son & futures grandkids lol

  • Superdupersong with a message.

  • how did the gieco caveman get in the band.

  • Before the new album was to come out, Ronnie was close to departing the band. The bad ass, gunslining was something he wanted to get away from musically. They were becoming too stereotyped. But the guys confinced him to stay, at least for this album.

  • i think allin would school everybody

  • Man the music back then was terrific and nothing today comes close. The raw talent of the musicians was far superior to the glorified crap we are stuck with today. I am glad I grew up during those days and really sad for those who missed out.

If we are lucky music will be like fashion and the cycle will repeat.

  • best skinnard song ever

    fucking epic!!!!

  • best skinnard song ever

  • I just love the fact that nobody in the audience had ever heard the song before. Mind - Blown.

  • all the 16 smell justin bieber

  • Gaines!!!!

  • I wish I could have a grand for every dislike there is on this post. I would be rich off of idiots!!!

  • you know what I love about this man he was a real southern boy who was true

to the heart ive been around this big country and the south always blows me away........

  • how did the geico cave man get on lead guitar.

  • @tdiestel1 LMAO ! He can play the guitar and sing ! ;)

  • Im in the "good ole USA" growing my own , legally thru the medical marijauna program , in greater , Roswell New Mexico, . . . getting up a bowl of cronic , right about now , lol

  • I think the song was aboot Collins off band habbits......

  • That smell...whos smokin dope here

  • ronnie is so polite RIP

  • The smell of dangerous times...Thank God we lived through it.This song always gives me the creeps & elation all in the paradoxical envelope of wild youth abandon.I Love this song...Legendary

  • damn this is old video

  • countries that reek:

    Mexico: beans

    Iran: camel turds

    India: curry farts

  • @dude75able And most of the people of these countries do not use Toilet Paper nor do they have proper sanitary systems so they all smell like shit!

  • @swsb40 true dat

  • Lenda do rock, muito louco!!

    puta letra, puta banda!!!!

  • R.I.P. Ronnie, steve and cassie

  • Ok weirdo alert! Thx for the vid. very memorable stuff. The words to this song I somehow linked to serious ptsd from a fire and then linked them again with my own drug and alcohol abuse and this always sent me into a sense of "smells" fire ,burning bodies, death ,alcohol, the pure smell of coke, all of linked in my head ! serious stuff I understand now but spent yrs just letting the words send me into flashback lol . I warned you, Still LOVE it, thanks . "feel" the music -Rick in Wichita

  • incredible video from Convention Hall, Asbury Park, N.J. Thanks for sharing this.

  • great to see this before the tragedy thanks

  • every one says i wish i were young then or from the 60,70's does that tell you anyhting about the 90's or 10's they suck

  • Born in 74 this is it!

  • allen collins my favorite but they all great

  • I love to watch ronnie take notes and watch the guys play guitar,

he could play a little, but admired his players, watch him "Watch Them"

    play the various leads, cool.

  • seen them in concert in 73, i was thirteen, think it was a life changing nite...

  • at 1:30 rossington flips the bird. at the camera or steve gaines?

  • @ackide good pick up!!!. I've watch this a thousand times but never noticed.....

  • @ackide Nah, watch it again. He has a cigarette in his right hand (strumming hand). He puts it in his mouth is all. After his hand goes to his face the cigarette is in his mouth, not his hand.

  • @burt1098 yep an even better pick up...the smoke thing happens but maybe the bid as well...

  • Man, take me back to 1973 when I first saw them in concert. The greatest band to ever grace us with their music.I've been a fan for 37 years and there isn't another group that even comes close to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

  • We Skynyrd fans wonder why Rock n Roll has gone down the shitter just like our country! God Bless Ronnie, Allen, Ed, Leon, Billy and Steve.

  • Lunga vita!!

  • Lunga vita !!

  • i turned 12 that day. Long live skynyrd.

  • Isn't that Rickey Medlocke playing his Gibson Explorer on this tape?

  • @charles121251 Nope thats Allen Collins....

  • @charles121251 umm.no that is Allen Collins...Ricky was long gone by this point...basicly,Ricky left the band before they even produced their first album...though he recorded and contributed to good material...the guy is super talented....plays guitar , plays drums, sings decently...peace

  • Woah! Never heard Allen play that lead part over the bridge before and Billy played some awesome different piano part on the breakdown. Amazing piece of footage, thanks!

  • all world

  • eu tinha 1 ano de idade e ja curtia rock and roll

  • All American !

  • oh man we're ALL LUCKY THIS got digital before the tape/ reel was ruined !!!

NICE WORK!!! Thanks for this amazing footage<3

  • at 0:08 some guy screams FREEBIRD! lol

  • wish i was my age now back then...born in 89

  • A lot of these LS vids are on the Freebird movie DVD. I've had it for years and after seeing a lot of these on utube I pulled it out. The DVD sound is off the charts.

    Love these guys.

  • Most people would probably remember this night the band played. It was the night the Big Apple (New York City) had its biggest blackout in the summer of 77. Lot of looting going on that night in NYC. I was only 14 at the time.

Here was Ronnie and the boys playing a stones throw a way in New Jersey.

Seems like Charlie Daniels was right when he said "Ronnie and him were a part of everything."

  • Incredible. By this point, their Live stage act was just mind blowing. Three alternating lead guitars-keyboards and drums as good as it gets-a lead singer as good as it gets-great backing vocals-and the ultimate KEY INGREDIENT-material to play that would end up the stuff of legend. 3 months after this performance-the perfect lineup we see here would be damaged beyond repair.Tragic.

  • @nate63able That could not have been said any better.

  • @nate63able first comment on YoutTube that so well summed up my own feelings that I didn't need to say a damn thing besides, "Cheers, Nate."

  • @nate63able Well said. LS is still as good as it gets....... 34 years later.

  • WOW ! Maybe the greatest american rock band ever. Dead on live....... .awesome sound!

  • @zzPinkTacozz37 You are wrong.....they are the greatest rock band in THE WORLD ever.!!!

  • great song

  • I'm just glad I was around in those days to enjoy this first hand.

  • Steve Gaines was the total musical package.Good song writer, good singer and a very tasteful guitar player. He would have definitely brought this band to new places in terms of music. What a loss:(

  • This is the most amazing thing i have ever heardd

  • Billy can sure play the shit out of that piano. I donk care what anyone says, THE BEST BAND EVER

  • Comment removed

  • I FARTED

  • whistling before solos how fucking cool is that?

  • rip steve gaines

  • High School. Football. Baseball. My Friends. Thanks again Tony. God-I miss those guys. I know the band touring now-its cool.

  • yeah i know that song very well! lol Ronnie is the man!!!

  • HEY MAMA's!!! lol love this

  • Steve Gaines, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins on guitars

  • @kissklassics QUALUDES MAN! Probably W.H. ROHRER 714

  • @kissklassics lets not forget about leon wilkinson artimus pyle ronnie van zant and billy powell

  • Is that Ricky Meadloke? I didn't think that he was in the band in '77? Can't really see his face but I recognize his guitar.

  • @charles121251 Medlocke was in the band

in the early 70's of Skynyrd. He was one of 2

drummers at the time. He split to go on with

Blackfoot. He was not part of the 1973 thru

    1977 touring/recording group.

  • Comment removed

  • @kissklassics Was only a reference to the storyline

that was real about the writing of that smell. Gary in

fact was loaded on qualudes when he hit an oak tree

with his brand new car in 76 & hurt his hand which put

him out of action for a short time. No offense intended

    to you.

  • @sonofachamp sorry for the misunderstanding...thanks for the info on Medlocke..never knew he played the drums!! Artimus is a killer drummer, with a great technique.,,, wasn't Allen Collins later paralyzed in a car accident after the plane crash?

  • @kissklassics No problem at all. I guess I came

out of left field on that one and tought you would

know what I meant. Allen was in a car crash in 86.

He was playing in Rossington Collins at the time.

That car crash paralyzed him waste down. He died

in Jan 1990 due to complications.

  • @kissklassics yes it paralyzed him and killed his girlfriend too.

  • Like this song especially from the movie BLOW

  • this is a new number he said...you know what...it's still a new number because it still fucking applies today....I had my problems....cocaine....cocaine and more cocaine...oh hell yeah....

  • @davehutchinson67 you stupid coke head. I hope your heart explodes

  • @dude75able Don't worry...it' probably will. Nice of you to wish ill on people. Shows what kind of person you really are.

  • @davehutchinson67 Ha Ha Ha dickhead.

  • @dude75able still at it huh? Instead of youtube insults have you ever said anything to a real man's face? You are welcome to meet me in person if you like and you can say it

  • Comment removed

  • @dude75able Baltimore MD and I've had and have some great friends who happened to be homosexual. Who cares? Only a bigot like you is stupid enough to really show his colors. What a waste of time you are. I wonder if your as much as a waste as a human being or do you seek to expand and grow your mind? Examine different ideas...or is that just too much for that Einstein brain of yours

  • @davehutchinson67 Ok, whatever. I never liked cocaine. Gave me the worst headache. WEED IS MY FRIEND.

  • 14 DISLIKES WHAT!!?? THEY MUST NOT KNOW WHAT REAL MUSIC IS...

  • Thank you for uploading this.

  • ugggh, best fuckin band ever....every last one of them...RIP to the ones that fell...they were , well,....there are no words.

  • Well I'm from Australia (Skynyrd were planning to tour here 77/78....that bloody plane). Anyway this is my favorite song from my favorite band and andf favorite album and it has been that way since I first heard the album in 77 and I don't care if the came from the north, south or the moon!

  • this is a treasure!!!!! thanks for loading!

  • @amylinnlevi you got a load in your shorts

  • I FARTED

  • Skynyrd at their best

  • What one are you in the video? If you are one of them a hi would mean alot.

  • Gary was the motivation for the song. He was on a bender and ran his brand new car into a tree. He was hurt, the tour was postponed, and Ronnie was pissed.

  • @mcpsych77 QUALUDES MAN! Probably W.H. ROHRER 714

  • This is probably my favorite Skynyrd song. Love the guitar riffs. Also love the way most of their songs are based on actual events.

  • Whats with the ME-26.
