I also do competition in hiphop, and I also get ballet classes. We usually have to up to our toes on one foot, then back on 2 feet. Then up to one foot on toes, back, and then we do the same but we spin when we go up. This way people learn to turn on your toes and turn upwards as well.
Those are pirouettes. I was doing those when I said - turn to the beat. The leg goes out to the side,back behind you and you bend down - plié - then up to relevé and turn. In hip-hop you don't really have to go up on your toes for turns. Just the difference in style.
