Love this song<3 Singing it in my choir at our Veteran's Day Assembly(:<3 THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOM&SAFETY<3
The two top Choirs for my school are singing this... It sounds even better with a few female voices. It gives it a pitch that causes chill sto run down your spine...
But this, with the video and everything, nearly brings tears to your eyes.
Thank you, to all our Freedom Fighters, from the dawning of our Nation, Under God, with Liberty and Justice to All. Love our Veterans past, present and future!
Thanks Dancerpro and RobertWaltz for your service and sacrifice as well as those individuals with which you served regardless of the "war." One thing I have learned is that war is an extension of politics. This song, I believe, is more of a reminder to those individuals making the decision to send our young (and old, now) into war when most of them do not "have a dog in the fight" Let us learn from history...and our mistakes of the past. God bless you both.
In high school, my guy's chior sang this song, and I honestly do not know who is better at singing it. But that doesn't matter. The message is so strong and so powerful that this song should be song a lot more. Thanks for putting it up. I wish more people would hear this song and realize the sacrifice that this country was built on and think about our military as good honest defenders of our country rather than heartless killers that many people believe that they are. Thanks again.
I have never asked for recognition for doing my job, either while serving or since. I went in for a job, I found my life. Being disabled during my tours I have always looked at as the price for doing business. This song has, since my service, become a definition, my definition, for our freedom. For those I lost, well I'll just hang on to that a little longer. This version, really helps me, with them.
@Dancerpro1 From a Vietnam Vet, thank you for your service and sacrfice. God bless you and yours. This song is yours. And mine. And ours. And theirs. Robert "Doc" Waltz
This is breath taking, I'm at a loss of words. This sent chills up my spine and put a lump in my throat, this was great. Thanks for sharing this song.
I can't remember if I've ever found a "cover" version of a song I thought was able to adequately convey the message of the original author. This one on the other hand was true to the emotion of the original. Thank you. 5 stars.
Essentially, it's impossible to get this version since it was performed by my high school's Madrigal Choir, and so there are a finite amount of CDs available. Sorry. :(
there is actually a similar cover done by a small acapella group you can find on itunes. just do a search...the group's name is 'the hangovers' (lame, but it's a beautiful cover)
Crosby, Stills and Nash performed a fine version of this tune; that's where I learned it (many years ago) and have come to think of it as an anthem. Your version is one that touched my soul and brought tears to my eyes as I envisioned those who have fallen protecting freedom. God bless you, Kilfio.
ahh, they're very good. A Choir at my school did this song too and the recording sounds similar. it's a very powerful song no matter what you believe about war, it's about respect.
I ost friends in Nam and I lost friends who came back but never came back, war is what it is and I honor those who went to keep me and mine free. I might not agree with the cause but I must honor the price they were willing to pay.
Perhaps there will come a day when there will be no need for songs like these, until then thank you for honoring them.
This song is touching. I love it, It hits home for me espically with all my friends in the marine corps or army.....A soldier is a hero, they carry out orders regaurdless of personal feelings...They are more of a man or woman than anyone else...God bless them...
this made me think of the tomb of the unknown soldier. That memorial has got to be my favorite. It really makes you think not only about the soldiers, but their families. Those soldier's families were out there somewhere, and they never even heard a word about their children again
I can see where this trend of comments is going. Sorry, guys, but I'm going to start deleting comments that express political views rather than comment on the movie.
the video, and the song, is reallyyyy good; the soldiers crying is really sad. especially the close up of the african american who has a single tear and a solid expression. it really means something; like the exterior doesnt do justice to the emotion inside. love it!
Woooow. Fantastic Video... Eye opening. Alot of times people think of soldiers as just soldiers. They dont see that they are normal people with pains and they are heroes.
I got this recording from the Oldham County High School Show Choir as an exclusive CD, since I was in the Show Choir while the Madrigal Choir performed this. :)
Good job on the video, real good stuff. How do you get that song in the acapella recording that the video uses? I've looked for it but can't find but instrumental stuff that isn't nearly as good as what I heard.
I'm not sure. See, I wasn't in the Madrigal Choir last year (I am this year, though :D), so I only heard the song during the performance. I'll get back to you if I have more info, though.
This song is from 'my' war...Vietnam. It's as powerful now as then. Like most career warriors (combat troops of all branches and countries), when one lays aside the uniform one keeps the mentality. That mentality is one of "if we're at war, somebody f*<ked up". The opposite side of that coin is "it's our job and we'll do it well; to do less means failure and that means friendly casualties." We only asked that you keep the faith with us during & after our service. IT takes money/taxes. Thanks.
It's strange how some people can be so naive in thinking that war doesn't or shouldn't cost much; it's also strange how some people can be in favor of a war one day and completely opposed the next. Don't get me started. ;) Thanks for the comment.
We've already forgotten the lessons of Vietnam and the advice of Colin Powell, despite lots of information & history. There is no such thing as a short counter-insurgency war & the war on terrorism is a war between the "haves & the have-nots." The other lesson from Korea & Vietnam is not to enter a protracted war w/o preparing the whole population & getting their support, e.g. WW2. NVA Col. @ Paris "peace talks" acknowledged they never defeated U.S. in major battle, but it was also irrelevant.
Aye. Many think that we lost the Vietnamese war because of "bad tactics", but after interviewing the Vietnamese generals (after treaties had been made), they said America had all the power and could sweep aside the Vietcong easily. The problem was that the protesters in the US were dividing the country. A divided country doesn't win. I personally believe that the troops should be pulled out when the job is done. However, this movie is only for a tribute to the soldiers; not a political view.
This song is very moving in the fact that it give tribute to those who have died, but also describes the senselessness of war (the Civil War in this case) which took place about 100 years before the song was written.
We get to sing this song in glee class at my school!:)
