  • You would make an awesome voice actor. Really easy to listen to you.

  • What you described about seeing your mother cry, changing your view of her, happened to me as a child when my grandfather died (back in 1977).

At his funeral, all of a sudden my grandma started to cry, what I had never seen her do before, and I really felt how the pain overwhelmed her inner barriers, and although the two of them hadn't been very happy with each other, she obviously realized she had really lost him, and this was deep and puzzling and also a bit frightening for me (being 12).

  • this is such an inspiration.

  • THIS IS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!!

  • Very interesting! Thaks! Coolest old man EVER!

  • Well told Sir ! It certainly brings back memories. Happily for every "Aircraft warning" there was the relief of the "All Clear" Very Best Wishes.

  • Wonderful video. Thankyou! =]

  • The siren also makes me feel eerie, and I was not thought of during the war. My mother was born in 1944. Its just a scary sound. I love listening to your stories grandpa. You are a special man:))

  • listening to you helps me dealing with the fact that İ have never known my grand parents as they both perıshed in the holocaust. I am so grateful and honoured to listen to you.

  • what a phoney this geriatric fella

  • this is a show... a well thought-out show... with little stories and cliffhangers...and openings which are way too well done for a 70 y/o... what is wrong with you folks!? of course he bitches about the media stalking him... that's what he and the people behind him really want... conflict! conflict makes good stories... how can you fall for this? the web site is not his? of course the same people who upload these shows are behind the geriatric site too. doh! now they'll sell t-shirts.

  • mate....your a prat for reading too far into this...

I don't think it would be as enjoyable if you did!

Keep doing exactly as you do, we love it!

  • OOoooo Just hearing the air raid siren at the begining

gave me chills. I grew up during the Cuban crisis, and that siren ment to duck and cover.

  • that was to vossdudes pathetic comment by the way, but it looks like it isn't being shown as a reply!! never mind, what an idiot, i think Peter is great for devoting so much time to this site. rock on pete XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

  • another wonderful post. just so you know, in Japan, where I was living, boys still wear short pants even in the cold of winter because it is part of their school uniform! so little in the last 50 years has changed!

  • laughed out loud : embarrassments of youth

    wearing trousers until age 14

I picture myself as the 6 foot gawky leggy greasy

lurch and split-up at wearing short pants to class :)

  • If some of you are going to be critical about this vlog, try giving some good explainations as to why. Otherwise, YouTube is a pretty big videos chamber. If you don't like, either give some constructive critisism or piss off. Go Pete!! You're awesome!!!

  • twat

  • shut up you idiot!! he is a lovely man! keep going peter, we love you!!

  • ha, ha, good. got me worried there x

  • heh awww =P na hes great!

  • How sad...what an ingrate to talk to this man like that. I only wish my grandfather was alive to tell me this story himself and personally I am grateful to Peter. God bless you Peter, don't even lend an ear or a thought to any such moronic statements. Consider the source.(I am sure you already know that!)

  • ...er..well not "this story" but his story I meant...Peter is a blessing!

  • ROFL

  • I love your video blogs- they are interesting.. i'll be looking out for more....

  • I am just starting to learn about worl war 1 and 2. I have memories of my grandmother telling me about world war 2 saying that she was chased into the jungles of the phillipines. she almost died at that time. I am very happy for her even though she is not with me anymore. you've had many experiences in your life. i would love to hear about your life even more. your blogs have given me a huge inspiration to go on.

  • Peter...

i am new to YouTube and first off i found you. Just quickly scanning the videos, i stopped on your kind face and have been blessed to become familiar with you.

    Thank you for sharing yourself.

i am a 60 year old woman who can appreciate the sort of honesty you provide. It seems you are an inspiration to folks of all ages...a true blessing...proof that you get from life what you put into it.

Thank you for your kind heart...

  • I visited Sylvia Hale in Sutton Valence on a road trip to England and she showed me and my wife these photos taken from her back yard during the Blitz. One showed two nasty Messerschmidt fighters screaming across her back yard fields between two tree lines, only a 100 or so feet over the ground. She had photos of dog fights high in the sky and spoke of all the dangerous brass shells and plane parts that fell to the earth on houses - and people - killing them.

  • Peter, it's great to have you and your videos back! :)

  • I'm amazed he remembered all of this.

At the end of the video, I already forgot the first part of it.

    I'm screwed when I get older. :/

    Loving the blogs!

  • You were lucky to have a car at 12, my grandad told me that where he lived only one boy had a car and that was because his father had a certain type of job.

  • Hello Peter,

I have watched all of your videos from #1 thru #11. You are wonderful, Peter. I'm from 71 yrs old and live in Minnesota, USA, so you see, your image and life stories have traveled everywhere. Keep going!Bobo1935.

  • powerful stuff

  • I hope I can be as sharp (well spoken, with memory intact) as you when I grow up.

  • I was ready to leave Youtube completely until I found your videos. They are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for sharing your life. I'm hooked. :)

  • I cant' say enough how much I look forward to hearing the stories of your life. I'm actually saddened when the video comes to an end. You are a great history teacher. God bless you!

  • It's true though, the overall intelligence of Sun readers is pretty low. It's mostly 13-16 year olds who want see page 3.

  • Thank you Peter. You should have a word with TV these days...if you were on the box, I'd start watching it again ;-)

  • i could listen to you all day. thanks for posting such intelligent and insightful videos.

  • Thank you Peter. This should be shown in Schools nowadays. You could teach these disrespectful kids of today a bit of humilty.

    Keep them coming mate!

  • Oh how I remember the short trousers....my brother's cold exposed knees

and my short dresses in winter, my legs blue. The next phase in the US after short trousers were corduroy plus fours..knickers to the US ( knickers in the UK are underpants) a half way house to long trousers.

I liked your good boy moment...but when did you realize it was a turning point in your life?

  • Thank you for this

  • I completely understand that your are trying to concentrate on remembering, rather than trying charm the audience with your eyes. Keep up the good work!

  • I wonder if the iraqi people are feeling the same at this moment as he did in those days?

  • I have loved every single one of your videos. Each offering an entirely different experience. Please do keep them coming. You are wonderful.

  • Oh, but i love the sound of air-raid sirens. I live next to a small plain airport. but it appears not one of these single propeller airplane enthusiasts, have taken up the effort of restoring a Junker dive-bomber.

i've always wanted to hear what one of those sounded like on a dive.

  • Thanks Peter, as usual a joy to watch. Please take good care of yourself

  • Wow... only one can imagine how surreal it must've been

  • You take care too, Geriatric1927. We all sit tight waiting for your videos to spring up. Have a good day.

  • Hi Peter, I enjoy your videos so much. Can you explain what an American Repent is? Hope I understood the word right.

  • He's talking about trousers - or as Americans, quite correctly by the way, call "pants". What he actually says is: "...for American, read pants" Now, for me pants is pants but for my less well travelled compadres here in the UK "pants" is usually short for "underpants" Hope this clears things up. Chin chin!

  • DennyGirl,

I believe he said "...for American, read pants" to explain what he meant when he was discussing the short trousers he was required to wear at school.

  • That line is in Ghost in the Shell, too. You deep man.

  • You remind me a lot of my grandmother, in the way that you talk about the past.

You won't need to worry about your story being lost, now.

  • geriatric1927 you really are a man to admire keep up the good work.

  • ZZzz zzzz zzzzzzzzzz

  • another great video Peter

  • you are a fantastic life story teller - keep up with the videos . I love watching and listening to them

  • Hey, I havn't got much time on here, but I didn't know if anyone else has told you that Richard and Judy (channel 4) really wanted you to get in contact with them

  • Haha, made me laugh, I used to live in England, but when I moved here to New Zealand I was shocked to find everyone wearing shorts in schools, which wasnt bad, but then they are wearing knee high socks as well! And its regualtion all the way to your final school year here! Anyway, keep the videos coming!

  • Pretty Interesting Videos

  • write a book

  • cool. did anyone see him featured in the metro? thats a paper in the UK .

    s.b. london, england

  • Thank you so much. We love your messages.

  • Up to #13 already, dang, you did have a lot to tell.

  • well done peter , lovely stories.

  • kids want to grow up so fast...isnt that the truth keep em coming peter

  • Very true.If I knew Then,what I know now.But I think that's the message here.

  • Being apart of the younger generation today sometimes it's easy to feel pressure from past generations. But watching you always gives me this feeling that makes me feel easier. It's interesting to see how even though times have changed, that mankind really hasn't. It's nice to know that. Thanks Peter!

  • Dear Sir:

I started my own video blog, basically because of you.

    Brad Hunt

  • Thank you for your wisdom and grace.

  • great stories, thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for this new video. My husband and I recently discovered Youtube and your videos *smile* - he plans to make a video tribute to Naval Corpsmen.. he was one during Desert Storm, attached to Fleet Hospital Five.

  • Peter, your the man!

  • Peter, what a tremendous asset you are to this community & to the world. I don't believe that that's too grandiose a statement. You have taught me so much about what is was like to grow up during the wartime, having it right at your doorstep. You have reminded me how much we have these days, and how complacent we become. I live in the US & I am 26. Thank you for making me appreciate more what we have despite the ills of the world!

  • Lovely!

  • Keep it up.

  • This is pretty interesting. Thanks for telling us how the war was for you.

  • scallielad, shut the fuck up and leave him alone you noobish immature prick.

  • thanks and take care too!

  • story time with Peter..I love you!

  • Thank you so much for sharing all of your memories, I absolutely love all of your videos!! :)

  • Crazy intro!

  • This is great.

  • scallielad: I'm guessing your not an adult, rather, hoping your not an adult, or that would make you, a fully developed moron. Either way, a word to the wise, while you are at school, please refine your literature skills, as near enough every word in your post is spelt incorrectly..twat?

  • don't feed the trolls

  • Now, now. "your not an adult" should be "you're not an adult". The comma between "you, a" is bad punctuation. And it should be "literacy" skills. Also "twat" should have an exclamation mark as I think you are making a statement and not asking a question. I'm just kidding here :-)

  • You might also have mentioned that "spelt" should read spelled

  • According to the Collins Concise Dictionary circa 1988 it can be both spelt or spelled. Probably an Americanization, which may have been changed by lexicographers since.

  • Many thanks for sharing your history. God bless.

  • You go Peter. Great as always.

YOUTUBE now has a THEME SONG @

  • You are so kind to share your memories with us.

You are wonderful. Please tell us more about your life.

  • I'll be sharing this...Fabulous as always! Thank you for sharing. Cheers, Kat

  • wow that dude is like me im 12 lower class dont follow rulz ROCK ON

  • Welcome back!

  • Thank you for sharing your experiences. If more of us younger people knew of the pain that war brought on we would be more tolerant and more caring of what life has to give us. Please continue sharing your thoughts when you are able. We will be here!

  • you're so lovely! It's amazing that somebody of your age is so world open! I'm from Germany and you already were on our news. Your great! I love England

  • Interesting what you said about the sirens. My mother told the same thing. She is five years older than you.

  • Hi Peter, Thom The Teacher in the United States here. I emailed a letter to you a day ago.

    YOU NEED A DIRECTOR'S ACCOUNT!

What can WE do to help you get a Director's Account. If you're going to be the number one draw for so many thousands of us spread out all over the world, then LET US HELP YOU!

    PLEASE advise...!

    READERS? WHAT can we do??

  • Brilliant, as im about to go into my first year at University to study History i particulary enjoyed this video. Hopefully there are more to come.

    Thanks Peter

  • Thanks Peter please tell more about the war.

  • hi peter im glad your back i have watched all your vids more then once & love them. thank you for shareing your life with us

  • Peter, I have spent a few hours yesterday and today being delighted by your videos and stories. Creating YouTube videos just seems to be the latest example in a lifetime of taking chances and trying new things in your life. You are a wonderful storyteller, and I'll be looking forward to your upcoming videos. Thank you so much for sharing yourself with all of us.

  • It is certainly more of a loss for Youtube if they don't give you a Director's account. My late grand father was in WW2 and he never talked about the pain and suffering he saw, he would always mention the good times he had with his friends and all of the funny moments he enjoyed when he was there.

  • interesting. :)

  • hello

  • Youtube won't give you a Directors account? That is crazy you are the reason a lot of people started coming to Youtube....

  • thank you. i have spent a few hours looking at your videos and they are great.

keep it up, cant wait till the next one.

  • Nice to see you again, Peter, I could listen to you all day. Take care of yourself & see you again soon, I hope. Much love - Karen x

  • glad your back

  • Here is the mechanism. One the one hand it's impossible to understand war completely without having been there, yet many people who have lived through it can't bring themselves talk about it, and thusly, future generations repeat history and do it all over again. That's why I always listen carefully when someone like Peter takes the initiative to share such thoughts with fellow citizens of the world. Ignore at your peril.

  • Best yet.

  • that was awsome keep it up

  • My mother was a child in northern England during WWII. Having spent most nights from the age of 11-13 in an air raid shelter, she freaked out one day when I blasted on my stereo the beginning of War Pigs by Black Sabbath (featuring screaming air raid sirens). That was when I realized she was still (forever) traumatized by her experiences.

  • Thanks Peter, that was lovely. :)

  • Be nice to each other... there speaketh a wise man.

    Thank you Mr P.

  • More memories! More wisdom!

  • Thank you!

  • Cheers.

  • This was great fun :D i loved how you also manatged t otell us abotu the watr, and i love how you continue with your trademark goodbye that i just LOVE!:D Thanks, i really do love you and what you do :D, you are a very interesting man and have a great personality =D Thanks for sharing. - PS loved the beginning, with the siren and all =)

  • So you were a little rebel, huh? I love your stories, you make me smile :)

  • "when I was a child, I spake as a child" Biff, why bother commenting so rudely? You could have just go on to other's vlogs without commenting at all!

brilliant as usual, Geriatric, many thanks. Looking forward to your next visit. A greatgranny

  • Nice, that first bit, wasnt it "When i was a child, i spake as a child, i thought as a child and i felt like a child, and then, i was a man..."

    Nice quote in anycase.

  • Very enjoyable...keep them coming

  • Thanks.

  • My Grandad and myself are glad you are sticking around. Keep up the great work. It's lovely hearing your stories.

  • I like when you go off in your tangents. Reminds me of grandpa simpson, but you obviously have all of your wits (unlike that character). I wish more people told stories of their lives on youtube.

  • I'm glad your back... nice to see you around

  • Hello Peter! This is McAnima4. I have switched accounts, due to an unfortunate follower. Anyway, Thank you again for all the wonderful words. I cannot wait for the next story. You make me feel safe. Be Well!

  • My grandad grew up during the war in the midlands as well i think he was 2 years older though so had to get a job in the spitfire factory near birmingham

  • Yeah that siren is a pain. I remeber goin on a school trip and we sat in a room with gas masks on to see waht if felt like and the teachers turned the lights of and then played the siren noises and planes in the sky i hated the siren i felt like i was going to vomit :(

  • Thank you once again Mr. Peter. Looking forward to your next episode. Cherio!...lol. I don't think I've ever said that before. I hope its a nice word. Not certain what it means, perhaps I shouldn't say it. Take care. Best always, Pongman Florida USA

  • Cheerio = a fond way of saying goodbye. Very British :-)

  • Thank you

  • School regulations have definately eased up in modern times but I still think wearing a school uniform is rather stupid and some of the rules are way too strict. Kids should be given room for individuality and the important need to express themselves in my opinion. Dressing everyone the same and getting them to all conform in the same way is rather sad.

  • I'm an austrian student who did not have a chance to listen to his own grandparents, since they passed away so early! So I realy like listening to your voice and your stories. Not only your sence of humor is great also that you do what you do,..awsome! Keep beeing a great storyteller... I love listening to you

  • Peter gives great stories, but i don't like when he doesnt watch into the camera.

As a story teller you have to do that Peter.

Btw I'm Swedish and i look forward to here more about the war,my moms grandma recently died at age 98 she was one of those who was a parent in ww2 and had to face the Nazis stealing and walking through their homes each day.

  • Thanks Peter , You are quite unique . Indeed you are. Diane

  • Good on ya matey, people need to know this

  • yeah, his voice is really comforting isn't it. i really love listening to his stories.
