ha ha, i bought this when it came out... they sold just the keyboard in japan for $100, but you could buy the same keyboard with game in package for i believe $60 or $70 at the time...
Yeah. I'm sick of people raving about DJ Hero, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band. If Konami advertised beatmania more and released Guitar Freaks and Drum Mania, DJ Hero, Guitar Hero and Rock Band would fail because everyone would realize that they are simply poor ripoffs of Konami's music game franchises.
#4 You call that underground techno your fuckin stupid, underground tech is beats like kid cutie and daft punk, thats true techno witch are both in Dj hero. #5 you clearly dont know what your talkin about i dont mean to come off as such an ass, but im tellin you dude i do this shit all the time i spin tables all around la and every word you just said is bull shit, you need to sit back and raise your kids and not talk about shit when you dont know what your talkin about... Word
5 THINGS. #1 This game is a piece of SHIT! compared to dj hero even if it is lower tech and all the layout, basics, and core mechanics are fuckin retarded. #2 dj hero didn't rip this off in anyway you idiot just because one person makes a dj game and 7 years later someone else makes one that's not ripin them off. , hell i doght the makes ever even herd of this piece of shit game. #3 the only thing really dj about this is the turntable, theres no big flashy buttons and GAY music i might add!
#1: yes beatmaniaUS was a piece of shit. it was supposed to be a direct port of BeatmaniaIIDX 9th Style, but as you can see, it didn't turn out so well... if you want to say iidx sucks, go look at all of the versions before you make your opinion
#2: yeah, activision and freestyle games probably didn't get any inspiration from beatmania. i think that's pretty evident.
#3: yes, we know the only thing "dj" about this is the turntable...
#3 (cont.): regarding the music...you've probably never even heard of any of the songs, much less listened to any of them, so save your comments until after you've actually taken the time to listen to them.
#4: okay, yeah, what the guy said is wrong, the songs ARE NOT "underground techno" idk why he said that, but he was definitely wrong. beatmania doesn't cover just techno; they make their own genres of music.
#5: i hardly think you "do this shit all the time"...
@leondo1984 And three "me of all people" really dude? who the fuck do you think you are? Yes i am i aient no famous or shit but im known local dude. so ddont talk unless you know what your takin about. aDJa 1 day DJ Pete seattle
And yes if you know anything about daft punk in there early days ( 1987 - 93) you would know that before they got there contract with Virgin Records they attended raves and such like they did in EuroDisney and PREFORMED at most of these raves they attended.
@leondo1984 thus making them underground before they started there major carriers of DAFT PUNK as we know them today. So in conclusion yes they were underground for a time, before starting there carriers. Many dj's start this way, encase you didn't know. @thizzboy99 all the stuff about daft punk i just mentioned goes for you too.
#5 (cont.): because if you did, either 1) you are a professional dj, in which case you wouldn't see how "dj hero" was any more "dj" than beatmania, or 2) you've already tried playing beatmania, in which case you wouldn't have said anything.
@leondo1984 One calm down buddy don't shit your pants over this really. two im sorry if i say its in MY OPINION would that make you sleep better at night? ok ( Hay world everything i said about beatmania or whatever the hell the garbo game is called was all in my OPINION ) there you go lendo sleep good tonight. Now listen im sure you and me can both agree on many things stupid and wrong about this video so don't attack me. Like i said ( just for you ) it was my opinion.
maybe this ones better but in europe its even worse we only have the ps1 beatmania, so DJ hero is much better because we have it everywhere and on every console
@Lakers280 IMO, while getting used to the key layout is a challenge, the timing aspect is not - but then again I've been playing msuic games for a while and playing musical instruments even longer and have a great sense of timing.
what the hell r u talkin bout im not even like that all im sayin is dj hero is not a ripoff of anything what im saying is dont nobody wanna play with that beatmania stuff they wanna hear real music that was above ground not underground lol hahahahahhaahha
there are three kinds of gamers when it comes to rhythm games... 1. the casual gamer. 2. the perfectionist and 3. the otaku, or "kotaku" Dj hero only exists in the first and second rhelms... beatmania is on another plain of existance. if you want to compare the two then go ahead, they're style is "similar", but they are not of the same world... DJH is for the hipsters of techno and rap. BM is for the truely obsessed with perfection.
beatmania gameplay is more complex than dj hero. hitting keys and scratching a turntable isn't as easy as it sounds, especially when there are seven keys. also, iidx has a mode called "double-play" or "14-key", and as the name implies, you play on both sides of the controller, a grand total of 14 keys and 2 turntables to scratch. you guys can do the math.
go and watch some of the real beatamania videos. i guarantee your mind will be blown.
GuitarFreaks and DrumMania > Guitar Hero/Rock Band
These western games are just bad rip offs. But in a way it's Konami's own fault for not marketing it outside of Japan.
The quality of the music in the Konami games is amazing because all of th music is made especially for them, instead of just adding all of the popular licenses to get sales.
And if any of you want to see the REAL beatmania, there are plenty of vids on here showing the japanese one. The US one sucked.
@showbiznine Konami was the original DJ Hero and Guilar Hero along with many other gadjets.... i wonder why activision was able to take over in america soo easily when these Konami games were around since the early 2000's, i believe some were around even before this...
You have to give credit to Harmonix at least for actually trying to teach people to play instruments now. If anyone should be burned at the torch, it should be Activision.
If you're gonna show off beatmania to piss off on DJ Hero at least do it right. Show off the Japanese IIDX versions (preferable 10th style and up) instead because both beatmania US and DJ Hero are a neck and neck race to see which one sucks harder. beatmania US is a disgrace to the series. Japanese fans made fun of us for that fucking piece of trash.
@AVEXentSUCKS IMO, BMUS, though very imperfect, was a good stepping stone into the world of beatmania. Now I have that, 4th, and 7th styles and hope to get either EMPRESS or DJ TROOPERS in the near future.
man watch this guys is just saying this rite know but watch when dj hero comes out he is going to buy it and what kind of person ownz a ps2 not thats there is anything wrong with it but its the 21 century man
only cuz ur a fanboi. dj hero will fail. ever heard of the game "Battle of the Bands" on the Wii? No? Exactly. Dj Hero is a ripoff of beatmania and that game based on the fact that your mixing artists like gwen stefani and eminem to some old 70's 80's beat. How gay.
Na, I agree with Bug. Although beatmania does look very cool and retro. But you gotta remember that DJ Hero is riding on the back of the Hugely successful franchise that is Guitar Hero. On top of the massive advertising push its having. Not to say that DJ hero will "Piss on this crap" but Its certainly going to be more popular than beatmania. The only reason a saw this video in the first place is because i was checking out vids of DJ Hero.
wii?...who cares about wii? thats a kids game and the charectors dont even look real lol dj hero is not a ripoff they only showing how a real dj game suppose to look and play that crap there you are playing is gay its nothing like dj-ing all you are doing pushing big butttons ...70 an 80s music was the best..how you gonna down somthing thats not even out yet an besides this is only the first one!! even guitar hero got better with time just give it time..they leaked out draft punk most didnt know
now that they leaked draft punk music the sales went up almost 40%..this will not fail trust me ..an also it was another leak for dj hero down load your own songs for the summer of year 2010
Okay, but seriously. Many American people haven't heard of Beatmania, becuase Konami hasn't even bothered to try marketing it in North America. I knew there was a PS2 version being released in the US a couple of years ago, but I saw nary an advertisement for it, let alone stores displaying it prominently. On top of that, the game was released with poor timing - the Guitar Hero franchise was just beginning to truly take off in 2006.
But besides, even if Beatmania was pushed towards consumers, I doubt it would have done that well. The techno tracks featured in the game aren't nearly as mainstream in the USA as they might be in Japan - people here want to play along with more songs they know and love, and maybe be introduced to SOME new songs/artists. Beatmania's music would just be too unfamiliar to the average consumer to stand a chance in today's rhythm game market.
The big reason why Konami's games don't put out the same numbers as Activision/Harmonix titles is that as much as I like most of the music of those titles, it's because much of the music, especially the KOs, is STRICTLY video game music that the average person isn't going to relate to at all. Konami's titles did well in Japan because it was CATERED to Japan. Hell, the ONLY reason DDR puts out any numbers at all besides the few diehards, is because they put familiar music in the game.
Familiar music, where it's chart difficulty is just right in order to rope people into the game and keep them. Beatmania US was anything but accessible, when Toxic could kick your ass at being a three on 5 key, that's saying a damn lot. DJ Hero is exactly what Beatmania US SHOULD have been like in the first place in terms of music and difficulty progression. Hell, DJ Hero's best element is that it's actually closer to the idea of being a DJ. Beatmania is essentially 8 key Stepmania.
8 keys in the sense that the platter could be made into a big button called Turntable and it would make NO difference to the gameplay. It's one of the biggest wasted elements of it's game design IMO.
Actually, I do remember hearing about an attempt to bring it over back in the old 5-key beatmania days - I think they took 1st mix and re-named it HipHopMania. Ick.
