cut my teeth on psychedelia with vanilla fudge, iron butterfly, electric music for the mind and body by cj and the fish.still love those artists today. wow!
I was watching a program discussing the concept of the multiverse where things could be very much like the reality we know with some differences. I hope there's one where VF became as big as LZ. After all, LZ was their warm up act back when. On a side note, one of my first impressions of Queen was "Led Zeppelin with vocals". It was just a couple days ago plus twenty years that Freddie left us. I'd be interested to know what other artists you consider crucial. Bet we have more in common.
@jtatlarge Yes I mean VF's version. I never concerned myself with differences (changes, "errors"). I may have been dimly aware of the song and Michel LeGrand but this is it as far as I'm concerned. The "correct" structure of the song without the space at the end of each line sounds "wrong" to me. Mark is really pushing the limits of his voice here and he's a little flat in couple spots, most notably 4:49. And what is that feedback at 5:24? I wouldn't have expected that in the studio.
@lovethatswivo I don`think he`s flat unintentionally in this one. He was great at the angst-ridden vocal. At 4:49 its just the flatside of the slow vibrato (listen to Of Her Hair etc 6:20-6:45), as he slides upwards to the note. Also Just the Fingers of Your Hand 5:09-5:22. I love these four tunes. In some sense, they had it all over LedZepp (metal gods may now rain on me). Plant vs three guys with coherent harmonic voices, almost Wilsonesque. VF wins.
@lovethatswivo I'm not 100% sure, but I think so. However, apparently most of the lyrical changes in Windmills were Carmine's - I heard this from a Shadow Morton interview third-hand, so perhaps its not 100% solid. When I said version I meant VF version, not the singer per se.
@jtatlarge Continuing previous comment, I'm not criticizing. I couldn't imagine doing another take of THAT vocal! If they were burned out (this being their last album before breaking up) they might have said hell with it good enough but good enough from VF surpasses many other artists' finest moments. Shredding is great, but I like emotion in my music. Great video BTW.
@activenight Congratulations. You are the first to notice. I actually left several common errors and some of Carmine's "changes" (you noted 2). Whirling. Carmine's version changes some lyrics for dramatic effect. "You were suddenly aware" rather than "Were you suddenly aware", and "jingle" twice vs jingle / jangle. Plus a few others. I particularly liked Carmine's "Where's that jingle in your head". Given the meter, I think it fits.
Sorru but for me this is just noise taking up air space to the deteriment of music and this song in particular. Listen to original in the context of movie it ws written for and you should be able to discern how powerful the origunal version is
@sweetp06coolmhe No doubt you mean the 1968 version - great movie, excellent acting, but poor version of the song, in part due to the singer, and in part the meter of the song, and in part the arrangement.
sorry mate not meaning to be rude i mean the fella done his best an im sure on the right songs h sounds good but this was so slowed down it had an effect on me i slowed too..i went out at the start of the song...did me shopping..came back ..washed me car.. took a subatical to new york found a job stayed there ten years came back walkied in the front room and he was still bleedin singing the second chorus :)
Yes..like the lyrics to that song ...Never ending our Beginning..on an ever spinning wheel...I still would give it ***** Great Vocal expression extraordinary interpretation
@dibblesdva ni problema. The fudge is an acquired taste. I thought I might distract you with the visuals :-)) Some of their tunes are a bit faster. (Not much) Try "You Keep Me Hanging On". I dont know whether they were considered Acid Soul Rock/Blues or not, but if you feel the pain, maybe thats the point. :/
brilliant video but god!!!!!!!...wot a crappy crappy version of a classic. well done to the singer i couldnt have murdered this song better with a club hammer!!!!
@dibblesdva Thanks. The song is a classic, but I'm hard pressed to find any singer that can do it justice (in context, since it was written for The Thomas Crown Affair.) None of Noel Harrison, Sting, or Dusty Springfield brought emotional depth to it. Maybe that was supposed to be the point, since Mancini's version was fairly robotic. Moyet did much better, with room for improvement. I prefer Oscar Peterson's and Gillespie's versions.

It's actually:
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of this song
Half remembered names and faces
NOT
half forgotten!!!
